Overpopulation and Ethical Methods of Population

Control in China

The world's population will soon reach a level where there will not be
enough resources to sustain life as we know it. An area is actually
overpopulated when its population can\'t be maintained without
rapidly depleting nonrenewable resources and without destroying the
environment which supports the population.(Brown,Gardner,Halweil,
Beyond Malthus,19).

According to the United Nations Population

Fund, each day 40,000 children die from malnutrition and its related
diseases.

Overpopulation causes a large number of problems in

today's society and is a problem that has already plagued over half
the world. Another consequence is that social funding per capita is
reduced when the population grows.

The Chinese government, fully aware that overpopulation is a

problem that is not just increasing steadily, but exponentially, has
tried to find a solution to the problem of increasing population with
success. In 1963, The Chinese government came out with, Later
Sparcer Fewer Policy. The Policy encouraged Couples to have children
later in life, space the births farther apart, and have fewer children. In
1979, China started the "one child per family policy, later on, in
1980, the birth-quota system was established to monitor population
growth. 1China has created economic incentives for families with less
than two children respecting their right to form a family, because we
are fully concerned for the future of mankind.

The government has the power to prevent the births of a large

percentage of children. To ensure population stability not only in the
wealthy third-world areas, but also in the industrialized areas,
countries and individuals must work together using education,
government propaganda, and community pressures. China believes
that

overpopulated

countries

or

that

soon

are

going

to

be

overpopulated, should remove slowly the tax write-off for more than 2
children. Families will not experience extreme economic decrease if
the decline is gradual enough. Moreover, government revenue could
increase.
The challenges of population aging are intimidating and difficult to
deal with for any country, but especially for China.

In developed

countries, economic development comes before population aging, but

China has to deal with a massive demand at the fastest rate ever of
population aging. China's dilemma is how to distribute resources
among various sectors while still continuing its economic growth.
