Sample Paper 1 Solution
1. The source of the Sun's energy is the fusion of hydrogen atoms to form helium taking
place in the core.
2. Chromic acid.
3. ii. Different colours of light bend through same angles with respect to the incident ray.
In dispersion through a prism, different colours of light bend through different angles.
4. Methane.
5. It takes 8.5 minutes for the light from the Sun to reach the Earth.
6. Red color deviates the least and violet shows maximum deviation while passing
through a glass prism.
7. Integrated circuit: A circuit in which thousands of components such as resistors,
capacitors, diodes and transistors, etc. are suitably linked to make a small
semiconductor chip is called an Integrated Circuit.
Limitation: If any component in an integrated circuit goes out of order, the whole I.C.
has to be replaced by a new one.
8. No. Sound needs a medium for propagation (solid, liquid, gas). There is no such medium
in the space.
9. The white line on the diode represents the negative terminal. The other side is positive.

H 32 250 600
H 13,50,000 J

12.
(a) A fuse is a safety device which is used to limit the current in an electric circuit. It
safeguards the circuit and the appliances connected in that circuit from being
damaged.
(b) The copper wire used by Anoop has a greater thickness and hence very low
resistance. Thus the heat required to reach melting point is very high. In the
occurrence of a short circuit, the circuit is not disconnected. This may lead to
damage of electrical appliances and the circuit.
13.
(a) Oxygen
(b) Thick firewood placed in the hearth results in is less oxygen. As a result
burning is partial. A poisonous gas carbon monoxide is formed due to this. Hence,
Kavyas mother advises her to use small pieces so that the firewood receives a good
amount of oxygen and burns completely.
14.
(a) An echo is the phenomenon of repetition of sound from a source by its reflection by
an obstacle.
(b) Yes. The minimum distance between the person and the reflecting surface should be
17 m. Here this distance is 18 m.
15. The three concentric layers of the Sun are:
(a) Photosphere: The visible surface of the Sun.
(b) Chromosphere: The red colour layer seen over the Photosphere, only visible during
a total solar eclipse.
(c) Corona: The outer part of the solar atmosphere is called Corona. It is a thin, hot area
that extends a long way from the sun.

II. The completed diagram is shown in the below figure. The two bulbs are connected
in parallel.

Reason:
i. Both the bulbs glow at the same voltage, and
ii. If one bulb ceases to glow, the other bulb remains glowing.
