In a period of 15 weeks, the student will:
To be familiar with traditional hymns by singing at least 2 hymns each
meeting,
To be familiar with a wide range of choral literature and styles, both
accompanied and a cappella.
To perform in important school activities, as may be required by the
School Administration.
Expectations include:

coming to class prepared and ready to sing
coming to class with a self provided black folder (clear book) with
copies of the selected repertoire and a pencil for marking.

Proper Vocal Production in the Choir Setting
Choral Vocal Styles
Choir vs. Worship Team: what is the difference?
VIII. Attendance Requirement:
It is the goal this class to have full participation in all rehearsals and
performances for all of its members. Attendance at rehearsals and
performances is the primary factor in determining your course grade. Prompt
attendance and positive, enthusiastic participation at all rehearsals and
concerts is mandatory.

A maximum of one absence is allowed for the entire semester. Additional

absences will result in a lower grade. Any absence must be cleared with
the instructor prior to class. No unexcused absences will be allowed and

missed work must be made up. The instructor reserves the right to
require additional or alternate assignments in makeup work.
Tardiness to rehearsals is assessed as follows: A tardy is within the first 10 minutes of class.
Arrival after this point is considered a full absence.
As noted above, every member of an ensemble plays an important role in the life of that
group. Since the ensemble's effectiveness is seriously impaired if any of its members are
absent, this policy is established to promote the well being of the chorus as a whole and
to ensure that it will meet the needs of all its members. Attendance will be taken at the
beginning of each rehearsal as well as checking for folders with pencil. If you dont
have your music or a pencil in rehearsal you will be given one warning to make
sure all is in order. After that, it counts as an automatic tardy to each
rehearsal you attend without your required materials.

IX. Procedures and Grading:

Students will sing or play the piano (acting as accompanist) at every class
session. Students are also expected to practice outside of class. Students
that come to class unprepared, i.e. unable to study the assigned music,
poor sight singing skills should make an extra effort. Class participation is
an important factor in determining grades. Participation in the Laboratory
choir is a requirement and will thus be scheduled. The grade will be based
on individual performance in class, which will be evaluated through
quartet examinations, written and practical examinations, and midterm/final examinations. The grade policy will follow MBS guidelines.
