Essay Questions
Please limit each response to 150 words
What has motivated you to pursue higher education?
I attend one of the top 25 schools in the country, and it is located in one of the worst neighborhoods in
my city. From what I see, the poor and uneducated stay poor and uneducated, and the wealthy and
educated stay wealthy and educated. Attending high school in a disadvantaged neighborhood has
opened my eyes to this reality of the world. Every day, I would watch children attend the surrounding
local schools trying to get a better education. Some of these children worked harder than my peers, but
because their education was not as good as ours was their opportunities for success were limited. This
was heartbreaking to me. For me to pursue a higher education, not only am I not wasting the
opportunities that I was blessed with, but Ill be able to put myself in a position to help provide a higher
quality education for public schools.
Why did you choose your major or course of study?
Designing software always seemed like an unobtainable skill from some Sci-fi universe, but after
taking my first Computer Science (CS) class, it suddenly became a lot more possible. I want to be a
positive influence on the world, and I want to learn and do as much as possible. In the world today,
technology is one of the most prominent forms of communication and innovation, and it is incorporated
in every aspect of our lives. To me, CS is like physics, its the underlying element for everything we do.
Computer Science has impacted mankind more in the past fifty years than anything has ever before,
and I believe that CS will take us further. If I were to positively impact the world, CS is the perfect
place to start.
What are your plans following graduation?
I plan on ultimately opening my own research and technology company whose primary focus is on
computer hardware and software innovations. From there I will branch out into other business ventures
such as music, entertainment, community service, medical technologies, and research. I plan on getting
involved in charities, community service projects, and even setting up a scholarship foundation. I
would fund educational programs dealing with computer science, and might possibly found a new
institution dedicated to teaching students computer science skills and business skills. Nobody lives
forever, and because of that it is up to us to take care of the next generation. This is practically
impossible without proper education and guidance. I aim to impact the world in some positive way in
regards to technology, so I plan on leading the youth to do the same.
Describe any other special considerations that we should take into account.
