Faith Lutheran Church ~ Rev. David Johnson, Pastor

From Pastor Dave's Desk...

Matthew 6:31-34 So do not worry, saying,
What shall we eat? or What shall we drink?
or What shall we wear? 32 For the pagans run
after all these things, and your heavenly
Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek
first his kingdom and his righteousness, and
all these things will be given to you as well.
34
Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for
tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has
enough trouble of its own.
Ive had enough! Usually this phrase is
something that people say when they have dealt
with something for far too long. There was a
comedian who was talking about his life growing
up in his household. He had done something
where his father was lecturing him, and his father
put his hand up to his forehead and said, I have
had it up to here with you! The comedian then
held up two fingers making a small gap in between
them and said, But dad, you have this much left!
At that point the dad had more than enough, and
the comedian then said, You know, those were
probably not the best words to say at that moment.
It seems that we always have had enough of
the bad things in life and can never get enough of
the good. And it makes sense, it really does.
Which of you wakes up every morning thinking,
You know what, I have not had enough bad stuff
happen to me yet, so I think I could take a little
more today. Or which of you when something
good happens to you thinks, You know, I really
enjoyed this, but I think I could do without some
good happening to me, at least for a while.

So we already have this feeling that we

dont want any bad to come our way and we
cant get enough of the good. Or in other words,
weve had enough of the bad because even a
little can be too much, and we dont have enough
of the good. And there is a very good reason
why we think like this. However, this kind of
thinking can really put a twist on how we
perceive what we have been given. We can
become worried over what could happen next
and we horde the good in our lives to ourselves
afraid that it might not always be there. When
we get in the mindset that I dont have enough
of the good in my life then our lives become
about worry, fear, and always wanting more.
The reason is, that if you feel that you
dont have enough, then youre always going to
be wanting more and afraid of losing what you
already have. This isnt the mindset that God
had intended us to live with. God has always
wanted you to see that you have already been
given every good thing that you need; that when
you have God looking after you, you will be
taken care of no matter what. No matter what
trials you face, no matter what struggles might
come your way, no matter what may be taken
from you; God will always be there to give you
what you need. If we can just get into the
mindset that I have been given enough then we
can truly live a life without fear, as well as a life
where we share the good gifts weve been given
with others.
In all honesty this can be really hard to
do. I know because I have trouble worrying over
things that come my way from time to time. Its

From the Pastors Desk cont...

easy to fall into the trap in these situations of saying,
I dont have enough, or I need more. However,
its in these moments that you really lose sight of the
God who is truly caring for you because your worry
blinds you from seeing the truth; that you are loved
and cared for in every situation you face in your life;
that God is still there giving you every good thing
that you need. For those of you who believe in what
Jesus has done for you, you dont need to worry
about the future because God will always be there to
give you enough. And for those of you who worry
about so much in your life, may you see that God is
looking after you and showing you that you can live
this life free from those worries because that no
matter what happens in this life, you are safely
carried in the palm of His hand.

In Gods Peace, Pastor Dave
