Zoomlion builds tower cranes with Indias

Electromech
On November 23rd, Chinese construction equipment manufacturer Zoomlion revealed plans to establish a
strategic alliance with ElectroMech, Indias largest industrial crane manufacturer, to partner in manufacturing
and selling tower cranes in India.
Zoomlion, which makes diverse construction equipment including towers and mobile cranes, announced the
alliance at Excon construction equipment exhibition in Bangalore, India.
Zoomlion sells hammer-head, luffing-jib and topless tower cranes, spread over 40 different models, with
capacities ranging from 635200tm. Zoomlion says that it developed, in 2010, the worlds largest horizontal jib,
top slewing, self-raising tower crane, the D5200, with a 5200 tm lifting capacity.
Zoomlion has previously made acquisitions involving other companies, such as Italian concrete equipment
manufacturer CIFA, and acquired topless tower crane technology rights from German tower manufacturer
JOST in June 2011.
This latest partnership with ElectroMech further expands geographic and segment reach with a crane builder
that designs, sells, manufactures, and installs custom and standardized overhead and cargo cranes.
ElectroMechs standardized cranes are distributed in India in association with German overhead crane
manufacturer Abus
ElectroMech is headquartered in Pune, where it has its manufacturing facilities, and has offices in India and the
Middle East. Its subsidiary, Cranedge, offers its clients post sales services.
Zoomlion said its aim is to work with Electromech to secure opportunities within the Indian market, and that it
had high expectations.
Chinese enterprises must accomplish localization first in order to go global, the more localized we are, the
more globalized we become, said Zhan Chunxin, chairman and CEO of Zoomlion .
Commenting on the cooperation with Zoomlion, Tushar Mehendale, managing director, ElectroMech said, We
are extremely excited to partner with a global leader like Zoomlion. With this collaboration, we look at
strengthening our market position by extending our product portfolio to offer total solutions to our customers.
Mehendale expressed optimism about the Indian economy and tower crane market. He said, Over the past
few years, India has consistently ranked amongst the worlds fastest-growing economies having an average
annual GDP growth rate in excess of 8%. India is on the cusp of increased infrastructural spending and the
recent 5 year plan envisages a spend in excess of $1trn.
The strategic alliance between Zoomlion and ElectroMech aims to tap this infrastructural boom. Tower cranes
have a huge potential in India as they find applications at various real estate and construction project sites all
across the country. The market for tower cranes is now on the verge of witnessing explosive growth and is
expected to grow at 20-25% annually. So we feel very confident about our future."
Mehendale said, This strategic alliance aims to combine the advanced technology and manufacturing
expertise of Zoomlion with ElectroMechs strong base in India and its strengths in sales and service to provide
top class Zoomlion tower cranes to the Indian market.
