Nelson Mandela became a leader in the African National Congress (ANC).


He protestted to follow Mohandas Gandhi's non-violence approach.
He spent 27 years in prison because he wanted all people of all races to have equal
rights in South Africa.
Later, Nelson continued his campaign to end apartheid. With his hard work and life
long effort, people apartheid were allowed to vote in the elections.
He won the election and became president of South Africa in 1994.
