This case was heard in the Supreme Court of Appeal.

The defendants name is Gerard Baden-Clay.
c) State the crime/charge involved.
The Court of Appeal in Brisbane has reserved its decision on a trial against
Gerard Baden-Clay's murder conviction for killing his wife Allison Baden-Clay
in 2012.
d) What was the outcome of the case?
The outcome of this case is life sentence, with a 15-year non-parole period
for Gerard Baden-Clay.

This case was heard in the High Court of Australia.
b) State the name of the plaintiff.
The plaintiffs name was Kathryn Strong.
c) State the name of the defendant.
The defendant was Woolworths.

Negligence was the area of civil law that was involved.
e) Give 2 reasons for your choice in part (d).
Woolworths is negligent as they failed:
To take reasonable care of their customers for inspection.
To removal slipping hazards at intervals not greater than 20 minutes in
the sidewalk sales area which causes risk.
f) What was the outcome of the case?
This case was found in favour of the plaintiff who received $580,000 in
compensation. The High Court also determined that a hazard should be
identified and removed if it has existed for at least 20 minutes or longer.
Article 3:New law to control cyber data
a) What level of government was involved?
State and federal government is involved.
b) Explain the new law that was introduced.
This law allows Australian state and federal police authority to force
telecommunication companies & internet service providers to recollect the
internet records of people suspected of cyber-based crimes, including fraud
and child pornography. Only the records made after the request will be
taken, but law enforcement agencies will be prevented from seeing the
information until they have secured a warrant.
c) State a reason for the new law.

The new law was made as it is believed that while some Telcos and
internet service providers keep data for up to a week, others routinely
delete users' data daily, frustrating the ability of authorities to gather
evidence against suspects.
d) State whether you agree/disagree with the change. Give 2 reasons for your
opinion.
I agree with this new law as it will:
Reduce the amount of cyber-criminals by helping police to gather
evidence against suspects.
Enable authorities the power to find people involved in forgery, fraud,
child pornography and infringement of copyright and intellectual property.
