ast year four first-time champions
emerged when South Boston Speed-
way completed its points season.
Will that be the case this season, or will
there be some repeat title winners?
Those questions will take a little more
than six months to answer, but the road to
the 2010 season championship begins Sat-
urday when South Boston Speedway kicks
off its season with the 2 p.m. running of
the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series
Twin 75s racing program.
Twin 75-lap races for the NASCAR
Whelen All-American Series Late Model
Stock Car Division will headline Saturday’s
action with races for the track’s Limited
Sportsman Division, Pure Stock Division
and Southern Vintage Modified Division
also on tap.
Saturday’s race is the first of 19 events
that have been scheduled for the .4-mile
oval this season. A total of 22 points races
have been slated for the NASCAR Whelen
All-American Series Late Model Stock Car
Division competitors this season.

GED® Spells Success

Like many young parents, both Danny Lawson and Lisa Nichols dropped out of high school
to provide for their children. Going back to get the GED was important to them and to the

“I have been very open with my children. I tell them that education is important
and I could not tell them that until I became educated myself. Education is the
most important aspect of growing up and I want to inspire them.”

Snow To Chase Limited Sportsman Title

He took full advantage of that op-

championship.
Snow has plans to run the full sched-

races at South Boston Speedway again
this season. That could be tough news
for the competitors in the division.
“The plan we’re starting off with is
to run for the championship,” Snow
said.
“We’re kind of a low-budget team, so
we’re going to run as long as money
allows. Hopefully we will have good
fortune, and we can run for the cham-

Snow started last season with the
same idea. Unfortunately, his plans
derailed quickly when his car was
totaled in a crash during the first race
of the season.
“That pretty much wiped out our en-

explained.

Clardy Entering Rookie Season With Confidence

C
harles Clardy Jr. will be a rookie
in the Pure Stock Division at
South Boston Speedway this
season, but he also will be a rookie in
the purest sense of the word.
While a great deal of first-time Pure
Stock racers have prior driving expe-
rience in go-karts, quarter midgets
or other forms of racing, Clardy does
not, getting his first seat time at the
tight four-tenths mile race track only
recently.
That doesn’t prevent the 24-year-old
South Boston resident from expressing
confidence about the upcoming season,
despite his inexperience.
“I’ve been a race fan all my life and
have come to pretty much all the races
the past three or four years,” said
Clardy.
“I picked the pure-four class because
I’d heard so much about them, the fun
they have and the sportsmanship.

start in,” he added.

season to remember last year
in the Limited Sportsman
Division at South Boston Speedway,
claiming three poles and four wins
in 17 starts, including a win in the
season finale that vaulted him to
second-place in the points standings.
The Cluster Springs driver capped
the year by claiming the pole and
the win in the big 100-lap Limited

Willis knows 2010 brings a new
set of challenges, but he plans to
meet them head-on, with a goal of

him in the past – a Limited Sports-
