Executive Summary
Brembo Brake is an Italian company and its an acknowledged world leader in field of
automotive disc brake technology. It manufactures disc brakes for cars and motorcycles and it
has production plants in sixteen countries. Brembo Brake India Pvt. Ltd located in Chakan,
Pune manufactures braking system for motorcycles under the brand ''BYBRE''. The various
strategies for continuous improvement and elimination of waste like Built in quality, Kaizen,
JIT, JIS, Hoshin, Kanban, VSM, 6S methodology are used in the company.
The main objective of the project is to understand the New Project Development
Process undergoing in Purchase dpt. by assisting the CFT. The purchase dpt. is responsible
for all the activities necessary for the procurement of product parts. It includes making
preliminary suppliers list, supplier selection, supplier APQP, getting samples from suppliers
and forwarding it to Quality dpt. for further testing and issuing purchase orders. They ensures
whether the suppliers are delivering first samples and necessary documents according to the
developmental time plan which is already given to them. They are also responsible for the
PPAP process before mass production of the product part. In case of any criticalities, and the
supplier was unable to follow the developmental time plan, then the concerned authority from
purchase dpt. will discuss it with the supplier and then with the customer and make necessary
modifications according to that
During the New Project Developmental stage, it mainly passes through six main
gates/phases. The first one is ALP gate which includes breaking down of the product features
according to technical/commercial specifications required by the customer. The next is DDX
gate, in which experimental drawing and specifications related to product are created and
tests which need to be carried out are identified. The next one is DT gate, in which the
prototypes are tested and on the basis of various test results it is ensured that the
characteristics and specifications of product are according to customer requirements. Then
comes the DI gate in which investments are approved for internal series production and
supplier production process. If the results of the Product Validation Data sheet tests
conducted on pre series parts are satisfactory then, the DP gate is completed. Thereafter
comes the final gate, which is DAP gate. If verification of all the internal and external
production process gives positive results, then the formal authorization for mass production is
given.
