PRESENT SIMPLE

The "present simple" is the simplest and most important of English tense. In this
lesson we will explain how it is formed and when used:

Conjugation of the present simple

The construction of the present simple (Present Simple) English is really easy,
having the structure

[SUBJECT] [WORD] (infinitive without to)

To consider:

If the subject is 3rd person singular is added "-S" to the verb.

Grammatical Rules
Form
To conjugate the present simple to use the infinitive subjects "I", "you", "we" and
"they" and another for "he", "she" and "it", we added a "-s" to end of the verb.

Subject Conjugation

I, you, we, They talk, eat, learn, do, go ...

he, she, it talks, eats, learns, does, goes ...

Note: There are exceptions of spelling in the third person, as referred to in the
verb ending. The rules are the same as those used to form the plural of nouns.
For more information, see the lesson on the names.

USES (USES)

1. The present tense is used to talk about things that usually happen. Unlike the
Spanish, the present tense is not used to talk about something that is
happening at the moment in which we speak.

It is often used with the present simple adverbs of time:

always (always)
every day (every day)
Usually (normally),
Often (often)
Sometimes (sometimes),
rarely (rarely)
hardly ever (almost never)
never (ever) ...

Structure

1. Affirmative Sentences
Subject verb.

Examples:

I talk. (I speak.)

I eats. (He eats.)

They learn. (They learn.)

2. Negative Sentences
The denial with full verbs (ie no manners and no auxiliary) is also easy:

[SUJETO] + do(es) + not + [VERBO]

Examples:

I do not talk. (I dont speak.)

He does not eat. (He does not eat.)

They do not learn. (They do not learn.)

Note: In negative sentences, the auxiliary verb ("to do") changes and the main
verb is in the infinitive.

3. Interrogative Sentences (interrogative sentences)

do(es) + [SUJETO] + [VERBO] ?

Examples:

Do you talk? (You talk?)

Does he eat? (Eat it?)

Do they learn? (Will they learn?)

Note: As in negative sentences, interrogative sentences in the auxiliary verb ("to

do") changes and the main verb is in the infinitive.

For more information about the structure of sentences, see the lesson, make
sentences.
