 Success Story...

Making an Impact
James Ross, a sixth grader at Julien Elementary School,
has been selected to represent Turlock Unified School
District in the Every Student Succeeding program. This
program is set-up to honor students who have overcome
obstacles and those who have contributed to help them
succeed.
Mrs. Murphy, Julien’s principal, nominated James for this
award saying, “James was moved to a Special Education
classroom with Mrs. Pam Esposito. He was struggling
immensely with some developmental speech delay
issues and vision issues that were keeping him from
learning.”

James Ross and Zach Ripley

James credits his academic success to the love and
support of his family and also to the City Recreation
program because it has helped him with homework,
journal writing, games and how to be a good friend. He
says Zack, the Site Manager of the Julien After School
Program, is always taking time to help him make good
decisions. When asking James who he believes has
supported him and been a part of his success team he
said, “My family!” He said that they respect and love
him even though he isn’t perfect. He also said that the
Rec Program has been a part of his success because
they help him with his studies every single day after
school. He claims he still argues with Zack at times but
is thankful that he is in his life.
Zack Ripley has been an employee with the City of
Turlock since October 2006. Zack always makes sure
that each child has a smile on his/her face and helps the
children see themselves with a positive self image. The
work ethic and dedication that Zack has is unbelievable;
we are truly grateful to have him as a part of our
Recreation team. He influences not only the children
in the After School Program but his fellow coworkers as
well.
Zack has been nominated and chosen for the Employee
of the Month award two separate times and he
continuously helps make our programs better.
