III. NEW GAME FEATURES
======================
10-MAN MULTI-PLAYER
SWAT 3 has been updated to support up to 10 players in a LAN or Internet game. I
n Co-Op and Team Deathmatch, players may separate into two groups of up to five
players each, in Deathmatch and Last Man Standing, up to 10 players may fight ag
ainst each other for supremacy.
10-MAN OBSERVER MODE
If a player enters observer mode, they may press the Viewport Toggle key (set to
the "\" key by default) to toggle between watching the first entry team and the
second entry team (should a second team be present). The Viewport element keys
(Leader, Red One, Red Two, Blue One, and Blue Two), work as before.
CUSTOM MISSIONS
Players may now access single-player custom missions through the main menu by cl
icking the Missions tab and selecting "Custom". Players may play against Artific
ial Intelligence in Co-Op and all Deathmatch variations. All modifications, incl
uding those which provide additional weapons, player models, and camouflage, are
activated in custom mission mode.
CUSTOM CAREERS
Players may now choose to play custom careers created in the Scenario Editor, or
restore saved custom careers. These careers utilize custom mission functionalit
y; providing the whole range of enhanced weapons, uniforms, and player models. A
custom career, "Metro Division", has been included with this update.
AI ELEMENT LEADERS
Element Leaders do not have to be player-controlled; an AI officer may now take
the role of Element Leader. They will give orders and lead their team to attempt
to secure the mission location. Players may place themselves under command of t
hese AI Element Leaders, if they so choose.
CUSTOM CAREERS IN MULTI-PLAYER
Multi-Player mode now supports custom careers; players may participate in a care
er game, undertaking a series of missions over LAN or Internet. Players may choo
se to start new careers, or join careers already in progress. Career games are i
dentified as such in the Call Up screen.
INTERNET OPS CHAT
The Operations screen in Internet play now hosts a new feature: the ability to c
hat with both the participants in the current game and the lobby; this feature m
ay be used to communicate with others that are not in the current game.
DEATHMATCH LIMITED LIVES OPTION
The host of a Multi-Player Deathmatch game may choose to limit the number of "li
ves" given to each player; each time a player is neutralized their number of liv
es will decrease by one. Once their lives run out, the player may choose to ente
r Observer Mode. Should all lives run out on a side in Team Deathmatch, or in al
l but one player in Last Man Standing/Standard Deathmatch, the game will end.
TEAM DEATHMATCH BASE CAMP
Team Deathmatch now has a "Base Camp" option, selectable from the Mission screen
in Operations. By turning this on, the entry point for each team is designated
"Base Camp", and all players on a side will respawn at that entry point when the
y are neutralized, rather than at a random location on the map.

TEAM DEATHMATCH COMMANDS/RESPONSES

Team Deathmatch now supports the use of the command and response menus by all as
saulters; both teams in Team Deathmatch have a leader, who may issue commands, a
nd assaulters, who may issue responses, as in Co-Op play. These messages are hea
rd only by the side that issued them.
DEATHMATCH FLASHBANGS
Flashbangs that are deployed in Deathmatch or Team Deathmatch now affect the acc
uracy of players; a player that is "blinded" by a flashbang will have their scre
en flash, and, depending on their distance from the flashbang detonation point a
nd whether or not they were turned to face the detonation, their aiming reticle
may be displaced.
ENHANCED DEBRIEF SCREENS
New debriefing screens have been added to support 10-man gameplay as well as Dea
thmatch gameplay types. Detailed statistics about each team as well as general m
ission statistics can be accessed by tabs on the debrief screen.
RESPAWN PROTECTION
Players who are neutralized during a multiplayer game will respawn with a one-se
cond "grace period" in which they are invulnerable to gunfire as well as invisib
le to other players. Their weapons are on 'safety' mode during this time as well
. This is to keep other players from "camping" known respawn areas.
ENHANCED CUSTOM CHAT SETUP
Custom Chat setup is now divided into three categories; Co-Op, Deathmatch, and T
eam Deathmatch, to allow the player to configure messages for each individual ga
me type.
COMMAND TAG RETICLE SNAP
When a player is given a command by an element leader that refers to a location
or object, such as a door or a bomb, a green command tag will appear over that l
ocation or object. When the player approaches within 50 feet of the target, the
target command tag will "snap" to the player's reticle.
[3] Patch FIXES
====================================
1. Server to Client connection removed. The game was experiencing connection iss
ues when the host tried to connect to a client who was behind a firewall, NAT or
proxy server.
2. Host Peer-to-peer validation - If the user is behind a firewall or tries to c
onnect to a game before the firewall check is complete they will get a new dialo
g box pop-up advising them of what to do.
3. Mod crash bug - fixed sound resource crash that could occur when joining a ga
me with user created mod enabled.
4. Mirroring change to address a cheat (not really a cheat) that could allow use
rs to see through doors and walls with the Opti-wand.
5. Element 1-Red 1 could sometimes hear what Element 2-Red 1 is saying, and they
shouldn't be able to.
6. Loading or joining a custom career without all of the necessary missions inst
alled could result in a crash. Invalid careers are no longer loaded in single pl
ayer, and show as red in the multiplayer game list.
7. Only used one directory server. Backup directory servers are now called if ne

cessary.
8. Crash when running scenarios created using the original scenario editor - Thi
s can be resolved if the user loads the old scenario into the new scenario edito
r and saves it again.
9. Renamed "Tier One Pack.zip" to "Tier_One_Pack.zip" to maintain compatability
in multiplayer. Enabled mods must be re-selected after running this update.
10. Removed client 'Behind firewall' indicator when joining games.
11. If the host is behind a firewall, a text indicator is added to the end of th
e game name - because of space limits we only indicate someone is behind a firew
all by using the letters FW.
12. Reset deathcam and remote-view cam to 1.7 settings.
13. Added Dispatch audio to the Garage and Autoshop missions.
14. Fixed HQ button not appearing in Last Man Standing debrief screen in interne
t games.

IV. GENERAL GAME & TOOL ISSUES

==============================
FIREWALLS
If you consistently get the message "Failed Peer-to-peer" when playing Internet
multiplayer games, you probably have a firewall or connection-sharing system tha
t is interfering with SWAT3's network traffic. If you're using firewall softwar
e such as Zone Alarm, make sure it is configured to allow for SWAT3's network tr
affic. If you're using a connection-sharing system or a router, make sure that
it is configured to allow SWAT3's network traffic. SWAT3 uses ports 16638, 1663
9, and 16640 for both in-bound and out-bound TCP and UDP.
If your connecting with a modem and also have a network card installed in the sy
stem and consistently get the message "Failed Peer-to-peer" when playing Interne
t multiplayer games, performance may be improved by releasing the network cards
IP address. To release the IP address, type 'Winipcfg' at the RUN command line
and click the 'Release All' button and then click 'OK'. If you need further hel
p with the Winipcfg program please contact Microsoft.
CHAT
From the Operations Screen of an Internet Game, when the Host clicks 'OPTIONS' (
eagle logo), all Clients will be unable to send chat text in the Game Chat Windo
w. Only upon the Host returning to Operations will the chat text send and be di
splayed. All Clients are still able to send messages in the Room Chat window (t
op chat window).
If you find that the Chat function is not working properly while in the Operatio
ns screens before the game has started, go back to the main menu and then rejoin
the game.
MODEMS
If you encounter lag when playing Internet games over a modem you can add the sw
itch '-modem" to the 'Target' of your SWAT3 Tactical GOTY shortcut. If you inst
alled to the default installation folder the 'Target' will look like the followi
ng when you add in the '-modem' switch; 'Swat.exe -modem' Adding in this switch
will limit the number of decals that get displayed during gameplay. You can al
so add an additional number afer the '-modem' switch. For example '-modem 500'.
The larger the number the better performance you will get. The default value

is 100.
DELETING SAVED CAREERS
To delete saved careers you must open the folder that SWAT3 Tactical GOTY is ins
talled into and find the 'Career' folder. Open the 'Career' folder and delete t
he files associated with the career you want to remove. The next time you run t
he game the career should no longer show up in the Restore Career list.
C2 & FLASHBANGS
The use of C2 and Flashbangs no longer cause your element to go into dynamic mod
e. This is to keep the other elements from forcing your element to go into dyna
mic mode if they are using C2 and Flashbangs.
FAQ
You may not be able to read the SWAT3 Tactical GOTY FAQ's with less than Interne
t Explorer 4. Visit http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/ to get the latest vers
ion of Internet Explorer.
WINDOWS 95 INSTALL
If you are installing the game on a Windows 95 system you may experience a 'Blue
Screen' during your install. If this occurs it will happen when the installer
asks you to remove the 'Play' CD and insert the 'Tactics' CD. If this occurs yo
u can still continue with the install process. While you are viewing the 'Blue
Screen' switch the CD's as instructed, then hit the 'ESC' key. The installation
should continue normally after that.
CMP SOUND CONVERTER
The CMP Sound Converter may not work on a clean Windows 95 system. If you don't
have Internet Explorer 4.0 or higher you may experience difficulties running thi
s application.
WORLDCRAFT & WINDOWS 95
Worldcraft may not work on a clean Windows 95 system. The error is "A required .
DLL file, OPENGL32.DLL was not found" This makes sense as OpenGL was not include
d on Windows operating systems until 95b.
The Worldcraft OpenGL renderer requires OpenGL v1.1 software runtime which is in
cluded as part of Windows 95 (OSR2), Windows 98, and later Windows editions. Us
ers with earlier versions of Windows 95 may need to download and install OpenGL
v1.1 from Microsoft using one of the following links before being able to use Wo
rldcraft:
http://download.microsoft.com/download/win95upg/info/1/W95/EN-US/Opengl95.exe
ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/softlib/mslfiles/opengl95.exe"
LARGE FONTS & THE SCENARIO EDITOR
If the Windows Operating System is set to large fonts users may experience issue
s with the screen extending off of the edge of the monitor, thus resulting in an
inability to exit the utility. Additionally, users will not be able to access
the Campaign Editor with large fonts enabled. It is recommended to have the Win
dows Operating System font settings set to Small Fonts. This setting may be cha
nged in the Advanced Settings section of the Display Properties window located i
n the Windows Control Panel.
INTERNET CONNECTION
If you connect to the Internet using a modem, we recommend that you have a 56K (
or better) connection for optimum performance during internet multiplayer games.
If you have an internet connection slower then 56K, we suggest that you do not
host the game or play missions with an abundance of characters (10+). In order t
o maintain optimum performance in missions, try having fewer clients and less AI

characters. If you have a 56K modem and would like to host a game, it is sugges
ted that you create a game that allows a maximum of 2 clients to achieve accepta
ble performance.
High bandwidth users (ISDN, Cable modem, DSL, T1):
Should have no problem playing all missions.
Low bandwidth users (28.8+ modems):
It's preferred that you play the smaller missions as a client only. For example:
the Freeway Sniper mission (Mission A), the Getts/50's house mission (Mission B
), the Bank mission (Mission C), the Brentwood House mission (Mission D), the Ti
gris Import/Export mission (Mission L) and the Phoenix Nightclub mission (Missio
n M).
MAPPING CENTER MOUSE BUTTON
In order to map your center mouse button to a game control your mouse properties
must be configured properly.
If using Windows 98:
Click Start Button from the desktop.
Highlight "Settings."
Click to select "Control Panel." This causes the Control Panel dialog
box to appear.
Double-click on "Mouse." The Mouse Properties dialog box will appear.
Click on the "Buttons" tab.
Set the "Button Assignments" accordingly:
Box 1: "Click/Select"
Box 2: "Middle Button"
Box 3: "Context Menu / Alternate Select"
ALT-TAB, CTRL-ESC, EMAIL NOTIFICATION
Alt-Tabbing between SWAT3 Tactical GOTY and other programs running on your PC is
discouraged. You should run the game without any other programs running on your
PC. If you switch between programs, SWAT3 Tactical GOTY may become unstable. If
this happens, reboot your PC and run the game again.
PERFORMANCE TWEAKS
Game speed and performance are dependent on several different hardware factors.
The 3 major factors that affect performance in SWAT3 Tactical GOTY: CPU, 3D Vide
o Card, and memory.
If you are experiencing slow performance on your system, first try setting the D
etail Setting in the Options menu (hit the Options button that looks like an eag
le) to LOW. This setting will have the biggest single impact on performance.
You can also increase performance by decreasing your screen size. To do so click
the "-" key. Press the "+" to increase your screen size.
If you have a 3D video card, you can increase frame rate performance by setting
the brightness control to 100% in the 'in-game option' menu. Your missions will
now be full bright but without lightmaps.

V. GRAPHIC CARD SUPPORT

========================
DETAIL SETTINGS
SWAT3 Tactical GOTY contains several detail settings that will affect performanc
e. You can change these detail settings (LOW, MEDIUM, and HIGH) through the in-g

ame menus by choosing the 'Options' button (which looks like an eagle).
LOW
A good choice for systems near or at the minimum system requirements. Uses the l
east amount of texture memory. Turns off just about every detail option availabl
e in SWAT3 Tactical GOTY. This is also the best choice when running the game in
Software Mode. This is what gets disabled:
Turns off reflective surfaces
Simpler special FX
No extra dynamic lights (i.e. security cameras)
Low detail character models
Turns off coronas
Turns off particle effects
Low resolution textures
MEDIUM
A good choice for most systems. Uses less texture memory than high, but keeps mo
st other special effects in place. This is what gets disabled:
Turns off reflective surfaces
Simpler special FX
No extra dynamic lights (i.e. security cameras)
HIGH
Turns up everything in terms of visual look. Recommended only for high-end syste
ms with fast 3D video cards. Uses the most texture memory, but looks the best.
3D ADAPTERS
SWAT3 Tactical GOTY also allows you to select what video mode you'd like to run
the game in. You can change these video mode settings through the in-game menus
by choosing the 'Options' button (which looks like an eagle) and selecting the a
ppropriate 3D Adapter.
SOFTWARE
If your systems video card does not support Accelerated gameplay then the 3D Ada
pter will default to Software. In Software some rendering options are unavailabl
e to you. They are:
The game will always run full bright (no lightmaps)
Turns off reflective surfaces
In low detail mode the game renders every other line
VI. GENERAL TECHNICAL ISSUES
=============================
1. Windows ME: in some cases, clicking the "Ping" button for a game immediately
after returning from the Debrief screen may cause a "Socket IP Bind Error". This
is specific to the Windows ME operating system. If you recieve this error, rest
art the game and avoid pinging games immediately after exiting the Debrief scree
n (wait a minute or so).
2. Occasionally, you may experience a brief "hang" while the game list refreshes
after clicking the Ping button. Also, some games may return "N/A" for a ping co
unt. This is due to a slight delay between a multiplayer game being cancelled by
the host and the master server list being refreshed.
COMPATIBILITY
SWAT3 Tactical GOTY was run through our compatibility labs. However, due to the
ever changing PC specifications in the consumer market, we cannot guarantee full
compatibility with your system.
Some tips to improve compatibility:
1. Update your video and soundcards with the latest drivers available. C

ontact your hardware manufacturer

for the most recent drivers. (Using Beta
listed drivers is not recommended)
2. During installation and operation of the game, we recommend that you
disable any virus checker, screen
saver program or any on-line chat progra
ms such as ICQ or E-Mail.
3. Do not play on a system that is below minimum specification.
4. DO NOT overclock your CPU or video card.
5. Verify you have at least 50MB of free hard drive space after installa
tion of the game (for the Windows
swap file).
