Students are required to register and bid for ALL their modules from 26 July 2012 to
14 August 2012.
The University has introduced the Centralised Online Registration System (CORS) for the bidding of
modules. The website for the CORS is at http://www.cors.nus.edu.sg All information and
instructions are posted there. Please read carefully before you start bidding for your modules.
The schedule for bidding and dropping of modules is as follows:
Event
Selecting module(s) (round 0)
Bidding for module(s) (round 1A to round 3B)
Withdrawal from module(s) with W (Withdrawal) indicated
in transcript
Withdrawal from module(s) with F (Fail)
grade indicated in transcript
Duration
*A W grade is a Withdrawal grade which will be reflected on a students academic transcript but will
not be factored into the Cumulative Average Point (CAP).
a) Workload
The minimum work-load for one semester is one module whilst the maximum is four modules,
including the retake modules.
In order to read a module which has pre-requisite module(s), a student is required to have read
but not necessarily have passed the pre-requisite module(s), in a previous semester.
In order to read a module which has co-requisite module(s), a student must read the co-requisite
module(s) in the same semester unless he has read but not necessarily has passed the co-requisite
module(s), in a previous semester.
All modules available for Semester I, AY 2012/2013 are listed below for your easy reference.
Please take note that some of the modules have pre-requisite and/or co-requisite module(s).
b) Re-taking of Modules
Students may opt to re-take a module only if
(i) it is a failed module or
(ii) they have been exempted from sitting for the examination in the previous semester, based on
medical grounds and
(iii) the module is offered in the current semester.
Students are advised to re-take all failed modules during the next available semester and try not
to delay re-taking essential modules till the final year.
c) Elective Module
An Elective module may not be offered if there is insufficient number of students opting for that
module at any particular time. Students who are affected will be informed later for re-registration
of other modules.
A student who failed an Elective module in the previous semester(s) may opt not to re-take the
module but to register for another module.
Please refer to point g.
d) Final Year Project
i) Students intending to start their FYP this Sem I AY12/13:
If you intend to start your FYP this semester, you would have already been allocated your project
and supervisor. Please register for your FYP module via CORS. Please note that all students who
bid for their FYP module will be allocated. If you have not been allocated your project and
supervisor, you must not register for your FYP module.
ii) Students who started their FYP in Sem 2, AY11/12:
Please be informed that you do not need to register for your FYP module via CORS. BTech
Office will pre-allocate the module for you.
iii) Students who started their FYP projects from Sem 1 AY11/12 or earlier:
Please register for your FYP module via CORS if you have not completed your FYP.
e) Declaration
This is not applicable to BTech students. You may skip this section in CORS.
There is another type of declaration in terms of modules or S/U (Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory)
declaration which will be applicable to BTech students from AY2007/2008 Intake onwards. For
more details, kindly visit https://btech.eng.nus.edu.sg/BTech/Programme/SUDeclaration.aspx and
https://btech.eng.nus.edu.sg/BTech/Programme/ModuleDeclaration.aspx
f) Degree Requirements
The degree requirements for students who are matriculated from AY2007/2008 onwards have
been changed. For more details, kindly visit the website for your respective courses:
Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineering:
https://btech.eng.nus.edu.sg/BTech/Programme/ME/MEStructure.aspx
g) SU Declaration [IMPORTANT PLEASE READ THIS CAREFULLY]
Starting from Semester 2 of AY11/12, BTech students will NOT be allowed to exercise the
S/U option on any Engineering module (all levels), including those declared as Unrestricted
Elective Modules (UEM). Engineering modules are modules which originated from the
Faculty of Engineering and which are not SS or GEM modules or the two special BTech
modules, TG1422 & TG1423, offered to meet the Breadth requirements. In other words, the
S/U option is not allowed only for engineering modules, not modules that can be used for
Breadth, or SS and GEM modules. Please note that all GEMs have module codes starting
with the letters GE and all SS modules have module codes starting with SS.
Additional Technical Electives
We encourage students to read more than the minimum number of Technical Electives (TE)
required for their respective degree program. These additional TEs can continue to be
declared as Unrestricted Electives (UE). The difference is that these TE modules must now
be done on a graded basis even when declared as UEMs.
h) Tutorial Registration
Please ignore the Tutorial Registration in CORS. The tutorial groups for BTech students will be
manually assigned by the BTech Office.
