It is an honour for us to take this opportunity to introduce our new Islamic supplementary school (Maktab)
at Jalalia Jamme Masjeed, Enfield. With Allah's help, we hope to work together with you to illuminate our
futures by improving our society at the same time as securing our seats in Paradise.
In this information pack you will find some important information and guidelines regarding your child's
education. Please take time to read it carefully and feel free to ask for clarification on the content.

Allah says in the Quran A good word is like a good tree whose root is firm and whose branches are high
in the sky, yielding constant fruit by its Lords leave. (Surah Ibrahim 14:24-25)
The Prophet said that the tree in question is the Nakhla (Arabic for date palm) and the scholars say
that a good word is referring to the Kalimah laa ilaaha illallaah.
In another hadith the Prophet compared a mumin (believer in Allah) with the Nakhla (date palm) which
is always green and doesnt lose its leaves.
Our goal at Nakhla is to make our students strong in their faith, character and actions like the Nakhla, at
the same time as us being a strong pillar of support for them throughout their lives like the Nakhla.

Today's children are tomorrow's society.

Our children will be members and leaders of tomorrow's society, which we will also be a part of. We must
act now to build a harmonious, educated and God-fearing society.
Our children: our pension policy.
Our children are often exposed to selfish and individualistic ideals so it is important we nurture them to
become caring and responsible Muslims who will fulfil their duties towards their parent, their families,
society and Allah.
Good manners come from good company.
Children learn most of their manners and etiquettes from their surroundings, peers and elders. By having a
regular connection with the Masjid, they will be in the company of people they can learn good manners
and etiquette from. As well as learning from the teachers, they will have the chance to make good friends
who can help them in doing good for the rest of their lives.
The Masjid is our lighthouse.
The Prophet made the Masjid the centre of the society and made sure everybody ha d a strong
connection with it. The Masjid should be the spiritual and social hub of the Muslim community,
somewhere our children turn back to for guidance and support throughout their lives. To build that

connection, we must ensure our children frequently attend classes, Salah and other activities at the masjid
from a young age.
Parents are responsible for educating children to serve Allah.
On the Day of Judgement, we will be asked about our duties towards our children. The greatest of these
duties is to help them prepare for the hereafter. For this, we must invest time, money and effort. Allah is
the Most Grateful and the Most Merciful; any time, money and effort spent on our children's tarbiyah
(upbringing) will be given back to us in multiples in the hereafter, if not in this life as well.

Our ultimate goal is to bring Allah's servants close to Allah by connecting them to Him, the Masjid, the
Deen and the people of His Deen. We aim to do this by:
1. Giving each student the knowledge required to:

Recognise Allah.
Children should understand who Allah is and build a relationship with Him.

Understand the purpose of their life.

They will learn about key life-concepts such as responsibility, accountability and the hereafter.

Worship Allah as He commanded.

Children should know all the basic rulings of Islam and be able to worship him to the best of
their abilities.

Become responsible members of society.

It is essential that they are building their morals and characters; and becoming exemplary
sons/daughters, students, neighbours, members of society and ambassadors of the Deen of
Allah.

2. To give them moral and spiritual support throughout their lives.

The child's time in the Maktab should be the beginning of a lifelong relationship with the Masjid
and he/she should have somewhere to turn for support throughout his/her life.

There are various programs available at Nakhla to choose from. Please choose whichever suits you and
your child best.

who wish to study Tajweed.

At Nakhla we will be following the new Safar Academy Syllabus for Quran, memorisation and Islamic
studies. Our teachers are also trained by Safar Academy to deliver the content in the most effective
manner. Wherever needed we will use additional books and resources to support the childrens learning.
It is important to note that our focus is on quality and not quantity. For example, we will prioritise
students ability to recite correctly and fluently over completing the Qaidah or Quran quickly. Likewise, in
Islamic studies, we will prioritise students understanding and enjoying the subjects they are studying over
covering multiple topics in a short time. We understand that this is against the wish of many parents, but
this is philosophy of Nakhla and a conscious and calculated decision we have made.

Achieving the above mentioned goals is possible through us working together. There are many ingredients
to a good education and upbringing. These will be shared between us.
Nakhla will provide:

A comfortable, friendly and pleasant atmosphere

Trained, dedicated and enthusiastic teachers

A relevant and comprehensive syllabus

Parents will provide:

Everything else
This is not an overstatement as the parents' influence on their children is by far greater than any
teachers: our children will become what we bring them up to become. Some of the parents duties
have been outlined below.

Children see, children do

We must lead by example. If our children see we value and honour Islam and its teachings, they will grow
up to do the same, in sh Allh.
Encouragement and support

Create a God-conscious and educational atmosphere in your home.

If you have more than one child, help them compete with each other and let those who havent
begun classes yet participate.

When the child returns from Maktab ask them about their day. Specific questions like "Which Surah
did you memorise?" can be useful as well as general ones like "What did you learn?".

Reward them for their efforts and progress.

Be positive. Never portray religion, religious education or people of religion (teachers, Imams, etc.)
in a negative or scary manner.

Punctuality
Our time with the children is very limited and their progress will be greatly hindered if they are not present
and on time. Take a regular look at the "Daily duties" checklist and ensure everything runs smoothly and
efficiently.
Supervise homework
Make sure the child is working hard and completing any homework the teacher may set.
Join in the learning
Why not begin taking lessons yourself so it will become easy for you to participate in your child's learning.
Nakhla also offers classes for adults.
Attend parents' evenings
We will hold parents' evenings, in sh Allh. For you and your childs benefit, please try to ensure both
parents are able to attend. We will try our best to arrange them at times convenient to you.
Make Du for your children
A parent's Du for his/her children is guaranteed acceptance. We must ensure to take out time and beg
Allah's mercy for ourselves, our children and the whole Ummah.

Ensure your child has been to the toilet and performed Wudhu just before leaving for the masjid.

Ensure your child has all books and resources required for the day.

Ensure he/she is appropriately dressed for the house of Allah.

Arrive at least 5 minutes before the beginning of class.

Do not leave your child unattended at any time. You must ensure your child reaches the teacher
safely and is picked up from the exit of the Masjid at the end of class.

Keep your phone switched on throughout class time in case we need to contact you in an
emergency. Also, inform us of any irregular circumstances by contacting the schools designated
number.

The school is not responsible for supervising children who arrive more than 10 minutes early to the
Masjid.

Parents must arrive on time to collect their children at the end of classes.

Parents must inform the school of any absences in advance and discuss any planned absences with
the head or admin.

Once enrolled, the students should not join any clubs that will conflict with class timings or arrange
family visits and celebrations at that time. Students who do not attend regularly are subject to
having their seat reconsidered.

Students must be collected by a family member known to the staff. If somebody else is to collect
the child, parents must inform the school beforehand. Children old enough to go home themselves
can do so after explicit permission has been given by the parents to the school.

For any concerns or queries during or close to class times, please refer to the admin. Do not disturb
the teacher unless it is an emergency. The admin can arrange for you to speak to the teacher
outside of class time when there is a need.

As a matter of courtesy and efficiency, we will appreciate prompt responses and acknowledgments
for any communications we make. We hope you can expect the same from us in sh Allh.

Students will be awarded merits for their hard work, achievements and good behaviour.
Periodically, outstanding students will be rewarded.
The students have a break between lessons as a reward for their good behaviour and efforts. In some
lessons students may be given a break within class time if they have worked exceptionally hard.

After exhausting all avenues of encouragement and motivation, the children may need to be disciplined.
Misbehaving students will be disciplined in the order below, except in exceptional circumstances.
1: He/she will receive a verbal warning.
2: He/she may lose previously earned merits.
3: He/she may lose part or all of his/her break.

4: He/she will be kept in detention after school. Parents will be notified at the end of the week if their child
is to serve a detention the following week.
5: His/her parent will be asked to attend a meeting with the teacher and/or head to discuss any necessary
further action.
The school reserves the right to suspend or expel students in extreme circumstances.
Bullying and aggressive behaviour will not be tolerated at all and will be dealt with sternly and promptly.

Students must wear loose clothing without distractive markings, pictures OR logos. Girls must cover their
hair properly and boys must have appropriate hairstyles. Students may be sent home to change their
clothing if they contravene the dress-code.

Children will be provided with essential resources. If a child fails to bring the correct materials, or ruins
them before or during Maktab, parents will have to pay for replacements. This is to ensure that the child
does not waste his/her learning-time due to not having the necessary materials.

Dont forget to tell friends and neighbours about Nakhla and keep us in your Dus. We will appreciate any
feedback and support you can offer. We pray that Allah, the Almighty, accepts all of our efforts and grants
us all a place in Paradise. Aameen.
