Purpose of the job:
Assist in the organisation and management of the kitchen in all its functions and to deputise for
the Cook in his/her absences.
Duties will include preparation of food and beverages, cooking meals in accordance with menus;
preparation and service of same, washing up and general cleaning duties.
Key Tasks/principal Accountabilities:
1. Preparation of Dining Area for service of meals and cleaning afterwards.
2. Setting up of servery and service of meal. Practising portion control as per guideline, also
ensuring good food presentation.
3. Washing up of crockery, cutlery and kitchen utensils, ensuring good Health and Safety,
COSHE practices.
4. Maintaining a clean kitchen by regular cleaning of all equipment, store rooms and
ancillary areas.
5. Assist on preparation and cooking of food.
6. Ensure safe Health and Safety practices by:
- reporting of all equipment not working properly;
- observe all hygiene regulations; complete H.A.C.C.P documents
- ensure that food is correctly stored.
7. Promote and sell the service through encouragement and friendliness towards the
Residents.
8. Any other duties as may reasonably be required

Occasional Duties
1. To attend any Training Course deemed to be necessary to further the efficiency or

prospects of the employee and Department.


2. To attend staff meetings.
3. To participate in any Work Study, or any other study, considered necessary by
management
4. To undergo any medical examination considered to be for the benefit of the employee or
the Department.

Working Arrangements:
The working week: 37 hours per week (Monday to Sunday) with occasionally some flexibility of
hours to meet specific work demands.
Location: Your principal work base is identified as . You may, however, be required or permitted
to work anywhere within the Council's area on a permanent or temporary basis without additional
time or payment for doing so
