Lesson aims:
To activate vocabulary associated with enlisting different types of entertainment and of
spending the free time
To practice speaking, reading, reading comprehension skills
To choose the best phrase to complete gaps
Materials: handouts, illustrations, textbook
Activity 1 ( a warm up activity)
Interaction: T-sts; St-T
Timing: 5 min
Aims: To get sts used to the atmosphere
To check homework
Organization: individual work
Materials: homework
Procedure:
1. The teacher checks the homework and students correct mistakes, if
necessary.
2.The teacher checks the way the pupils did their homework
3. The teacher announces the topic of the new lesson and he/she quickly
mentions what he/she expect students to do
4. The teacher asks one or two questions that could work as a lead-in
activity
Assessment: Whole class assessment of the activity by correcting the possible mistakes.
Expected difficulties: Students may not be able to talk about the subject and they might
make some mistakes when trying to express themselves. They may also make mistakes in
their homework.

Activity 2: (pre-reading activity)

Aims: To practice speaking skills
To introduce the theme of the lesson: entertainment
To activate vocabulary associated with different types of entertainment and of
spending the free time
To raise awareness of some of the aims of spending our time the best way
possible
Organization: independent work
Materials: worksheet
Procedure:
1. The teacher asks the students to take a look on the exercise on the work
sheet
2. Teacher asks the students to match the phrases in the columns.
3. The teacher asks the sts to discuss how often they do the leisure
activities
4. Sts give different answers
5. The teacher asks the sts questions such as: How do you usually spend
your free time? or What is the best way of spending your time?
6. The teacher monitors the activity
Assessment: Whole class assessment of the activity by correcting the possible mistakes.
Expected difficulties: Students may not be able to talk about the subject and they might
make some mistakes when trying to express themselves.

Activity 3:

(reading)

Aims:
To practice reading skills
To activate vocabulary associated with enlisting ways of spending our time the best
possible
To raise awareness of some of the aims of entertainment
Organization: individual work
Materials: worksheets
Procedure:
1 The teacher reads the title of the fragment and asks the sts questions such
as : Do you usually go to funfairs? What are the main attractions there?
2. Students give their their answers
3. The sts read the text and search for the unknown words in the text
4. The sts infer word meaning from context of the unknown words. Teacher
gives clues.

Assessment: Whole class assessment of the activity by correcting the possible mistakes.
Expected difficulties: Students might spend too much time solving the assignment. The
sts might not know the significance of all the words.

To check sts capability to understand a written text
To choose the best phrase to complete gaps
Organization: pair work
Materials: handouts
Procedure:
1. The teacher asks sts to pay attention to details in the text .Students must
fill in the blank spaces with the suitable information.
2. Teacher asks the students to choose the best answer for some questions
3. Sts work in pairs
4. Sts give different answers .

Assessment: Whole class assessment of the activity by correcting the possible mistakes.
Expected difficulties: : Students might spend too much time solving the assignment.

(vocabulary)

Aims:
To practice speaking and writing skills
To reinforce vocabulary associated with entertainment
Organization: individual work
Materials: worksheets
Procedure:
1. The teacher tells the sts to pay attention to what the exercise in the
worksheet asks them to do
2. The teacher asks the sts to fill in the blank spaces of a crossword with the
correct word/definition for the phrases in the list
3. Students work in groups.
4. The teacher gives the students enough time to finish up the exercise and
then checks out the answers with the whole class.
Assessment: Whole class assessment of the activity by correcting the possible mistakes.

Expected difficulties: Students might spend too much time solving the assignment. The
sts might not know the significance of all the words might not guess the right
definition/word.
The teacher might find it necessary to give the students some clues.
Homework: 5 min
Teacher briefly revises the topics, assigns and explains the homework: Make sentences
with the words from the crossword
