Lieutenant Governor to accompany


The Countess of Wessex during working visit to Ontario
Toronto, November 11, 2015. Her Honour the Hon. Elizabeth Dowdeswell, Lieutenant Governor of
Ontario, will accompany Her Royal Highness The Countess of Wessex during a series of events as she
undertakes a working visit to Ontario from November 12 to 14, 2015.
The Countess working visit complements her previous visit to Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug
(Big Trout Lake) First Nation in Northern Ontario and Thunder Bay in September 2014. This working
visit will also place emphasis on The Countess links to Canadian organizations and the Canadian
Forces and as Patron of the Toronto General and Western Hospital.
The Countess of Wessex is married to The Queens youngest son, The Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex.
Prior to her marriage in 1999, she was known as Sophie Rhys-Jones. This is her 13th visit to Canada.
Schedule of events
Thursday, November 12
Toronto
For events on November 12, the Lieutenant Governor and The Countess of Wessex will be
accompanied by a group of women business leaders. The delegation will have opportunities to learn
about the unique issues facing Aboriginal Canadians living in an urban setting.
10:50 a.m. Tour of Native Child and Family Services of Toronto
30 College Street, Toronto
The Lieutenant Governor and The Countess will conduct a tour of Native Child and Family Services of
Toronto, a childrens aid society and multi-service agency that provides culturally sensitive
programming for Aboriginal people in the GTA. It serves as a single point of access to a variety of
services for children and families. The tour party will meet with the organizations directors and clients.

12 p.m. Tour of Toronto Council Fire Native Cultural Centre
439 Dundas Street East, Toronto
The Lieutenant Governor and The Countess will tour the Toronto Council Fire Native Cultural Centre, a
charity providing services related to the social, health, educational, economic, and cultural needs of
Torontos Aboriginal population. The tour party will meet with the organizations directors and clients.

1 p.m. Working lunch


Lieutenant Governors Suite, Queens Park, Toronto
The Lieutenant Governor will host a lunch for The Countess, leaders working with Aboriginal
communities throughout the GTA, and a group of women leaders representing the cultural, business,
academic, and philanthropic sectors.

9:25 a.m. Tour of Toronto Western Hospital

The Lieutenant Governor and The Countess will meet with doctors and researchers at Toronto Western
Hospital to learn about new technologies relating to vision care, stroke treatments, and arthritis. The
tour party will also join nurses for tea and meet with patients and their families.

Following visits with patients and staff at Toronto General Hospital, the Lieutenant Governor and
The Countess will participate in a briefing on the hospitals transplant program. The Countess will unveil
a plaque recognizing organ donors.

2 p.m. Visit to the 93rd Royal Agricultural Winter Fair
Ricoh Coliseum, 45 Manitoba Drive, Toronto
The Lieutenant Governor and The Countess will view several exhibits at the Royal Agricultural Winter
Fair, and will meet Turbo the Goat. The Countess will deliver brief remarks. The tour party will meet
with representatives of WindReach Farm, an organization providing recreational, educational, and work
experience opportunities for persons with special needs of all ages, and 4-H Ontario, which is marking
its 100th anniversary.

Grimsby
1 p.m. Events with the Lincoln and Welland Regiment
Winona Range and Training Area, Grimsby
The Lieutenant Governor and The Countess will meet with members of the Lincoln and Welland
Regiment and will participate in a dynamic military display. The Countess is Colonel-in-Chief of the
regiment.
