Acid Base Theory based on Arrhenius
According to Arrhenius, acid is a substance that produce H+ ions in aqueous
solutions, while base is a substance that produce OH - ions in aqueous solutions.
Arrhenius acid base can be formulated as follows :
HxZ(aq) xH+(aq) + Zx-(aq)

M(OH)x(aq) Mx+(aq) + xOH-(aq)

HxZ is acid
M(OH)x is base

Acid Base Theory based on Bronsted Lowry


According to Bronsted Lowry, acid is a proton (H+) donor, while base is a proton
(H+) acceptor.
Conjugate Pairs of Acid and Base
An acid, after release one proton (H+), it will form a speci called conjugate base,
while a base, after accept one proton (H+), it will form a speci called conjugate acid.
Acid Conjugate base + H+
Base + H+ Conjugate acid
Acid Base Theory based on Lewis
Lewis give definition of acid and base based on the handover of electron pairs.
According to Lewis, acid is acceptor of electron pairs, while base is donor of electron
pairs.
