Dear _________________,
The Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U.S. Department of State through the
Northern Illinois University (DeKalb, U.S.A.) in partnership with the Filipino Institute for the
Promotion of Integrity and Nobility (FILIPINO, INC.) announces its Call for Applications for the
Philippine Youth Leadership Program (PYLP). This is a one-year project that covers workshops
and learning activities, including a four-week U.S. based study and exposure from April-May
2016 focusing on responsible citizenship, community service leadership and action plan
development. The 13th batchs theme is anchored in Environmental Leadership in the
Philippines: Developing Youth as Agents of Change and Ecological Activism.
As we continue to scale up providing programs to outstanding youths in the region, I am
writing to invite applications coming from both public and private schools in the region
through the Department of Education. Our call for applications has a very short time frame
and we hope to have applicants from the different provinces of the region. We welcome
youth and adult applicants coming from provincial areas, indigenous peoples communities,
4Ps (Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program) beneficiaries who are Muslims, IPs and Christians.
Believing in DepEds strong commitment to Filipino youth education, it is with high
confidence that we request your good office a memorandum informing division
superintendents and their principals of this program and send top three students from their
schools. We would appreciate much to receive applications endorsed by DepEd. It is
noteworthy to inform, that this program is an extra-curricular activity that can be recognized
by DepEd as part of honing the students becoming good leaders of their respective
communities.
There will be 24 youths (15-17 years old) and 4 adult leaders (25-35 years old) from all over
Mindanao who will be accepted to the program. Guidelines, eligibility and requirements can
be found on the attached document. I am sending this letter of notification in advance so
that possible applicants can prepare the necessary documents while waiting for the official
