1. General description of the project

This project covers a study on a potential construction of a bridge in the
city of Sao Paulo, Brazil as a requirement of a course in my civil
engineering bachelor. All the events related to the bridge construction
were analyzed starting from the construction planning and methods, work
breakdown structure, schedule and the characteristics of the construction
site.
The bridge objective is to transpose Tamanduatei River as well as reduce
the traffic load on the region. The plan is represented on Figure 1.

2. Description on how the project relates to engineering

It is possible to say that the construction of a bridge, as all civil
engineering projects, requires not only the technical engineering aspects

but also the construction planning ones. Construction planning is a

fundamental activity in the management and execution of construction
projects. It involves the choice of technology, the definition of work tasks,
the estimation of the required resources and durations for individual tasks,
and the identification of any interactions among the different work tasks.
A good construction plan is the basis for achieving the budget and the
schedule of a project. Developing the construction plan is a critical task in
the management of construction, even if the plan is not written or
otherwise formally recorded.
3. Project Journal
The project journal will cover important project events during concept
development and details regarding when, how and why each event was
executed.
Event 1: Decision on the work breakdown structure
Considering the data provided and the requirements of the bridge project,
the work breakdown structure was created considering the essential
phases as shown on Figure 2.

Event 3: Decision on the location of the construction site

In order to define where to allocate the construction site, a visit at the area
was needed considering that the bridge will be located on a busy area. It
was possible to verify its characteristics and the dynamic of the traffic
works. Considering the space needed and after analyzing the area, the
construction site location was defined as shown on Figure 3.
