Accuracy of
measurements

Accuracy of measurements

Lesson/Unit
Goals

To know that any measurement involves some kind of error.

Accuracy is a limited quantity in science.
It is possible to increase the accuracy and decrease the error.

Introductory
Lesson

In science, the word accuracy means how close a measurement is to the true value
of what is being measured. However, it is impossible to be 100% sure in a
measurement. Every time, we make an experiment, there is the possibility of
errors due to many factors. Luckily, there is a way of improving the accuracy and
decreasing the errors.

Development

Procedure

Introduce, explain, and give examples, and finally feedback.

motion
1. Distinguish between instantaneous and average speeds.
2. Use the formula v = d/t to solve problems that involve distance, time, and speed.
3. Distinguish between scalar and vector quantities and give several examples of each.
4. Define position, displacement and distance.
5. understand the difference between distance and displacement.
The speed of a moving object is the rate at which it covers distance. Average speed is the total distance traveled by an
object divided by the time taken to travel that distance. Instantaneous speed is an objects speed at a given instant of
time.

pressure

To learn; pressure on a surface, reducing pressure, increasing pressure, pressure in liquids, and pressure in
gases.

The pressure P exerted by a fluid is the magnitude F of the force acting perpendicular to a surface embedded
in the fluid divided by the area A over which the force acts:

kinematics
We will learn to describe the motion of an object, traveling in a straight line or in one dimension.
We will learn to define position, displacement, and distance.
We will define the concepts of instantaneous velocity and average velocity.
We will learn how to solve questions about motion and its related quantities
There are two aspects to any motion. In a purely descriptive sense, there is the movement itself. Is it rapid or slow, for
instance? Then, there is the issue of what causes the motion or what changes it, which requires that forces be considered.
The study of physics is divided into several large parts, one of which is mechanics.
Mechanics, or the study of motion and its causes, is usually subdivided. In this chapter and the next, we examine the
kinematics aspect of mechanics. Kinematics is the study of the motion of objects.
The simplest motion we can investigate is that of an object moving in a straight line.

Electric potential or voltage

To know the definition of voltage and be able to understand related concepts.
Voltage of electric charges.

finding voltage of many charges.

An electric field has many similarities to a gravitational field, including its mathematical formulation.
Introductory
Lesson

Electric charges also have energy because of their position and configuration.
It is possible to calculate the energy of charges. Voltage can be defined in terms of energy per unit charge.

V= kq/r
