Reyes Dizon hardware accepts the responsibility for the environmental protection which
is integral to the conduct of its commercial operations.
Reyes-Dizon hardware objective is to comply with all applicable environmental laws and
regulations in a commercially effective way.

Our Mission
People return from Reyes-Dizon hardware workplaces in the same mental and physical
condition as they left to go to work.

Reyes-Dizon hardware policy is to ensure that all our activities and processes are
performed in a systematic manner that does not put at risk the health and safety of

employees, contractors, labor hire workers, trainees, apprentices, visitors, suppliers,


customers and or the general public.

To achieve our Policy objectives the Reyes-Dizon hardware

Compliance with applicable laws, regulations, standards, codes of practice and


requirements to which Reyes-Dizon hardware subscribes. - Consulting with
workers about health and safety matters and give workers the opportunity to
express their views and to be involved in decision making about those matters.

Consulting, cooperating and coordinating activities with other persons conducting


business or undertaking, persons in control of the workplace or plant, designers,
manufacturers, suppliers, importers and installers, of plant or structures and
other persons at the workplace in relation to health and safety matters.

Providing appropriate health and safety advice, information, education and


training to our workers, contractors, labor hire workers, and visitors.

Minimizing risk to health and safety by implementing risk management processes


consistent with the level of risk exposure.

Monitoring and regularly reviewing Reyes-Dizon hardware Health and Safety


Management System to ensure that it complies with the prescribed and
subscribed requirements.

Providing processes for all levels of management to be held accountable for


health and safety matters within their responsibility whilst at the same time
recognizing that each worker has a duty to take responsible care that their acts
do not adversely affect the health and safety of themselves or others.

The challenge
Brick making involved the rapid, repetitive handling of bricks. Manual handling was
known to be the most significant cause of workplace injuries

What did the company do?

More suitable equipment designed to reduce the hazards and risks


from manual handling
Training in injury prevention and symptom recognition
Training in easy self-treatment and exercises

Saving brick production capacity previously lost through minor injury
Initiative well received by the workforce
Staff retention improved workforce more stable

Health and safety benefits

No reportable accidents since the company started. Minor injuries not


included.

High staff morale.

Less likelihood of allocating staff to a task that may aggravate an


existing condition
Weve fewer shorthanded teams which has helped to reduce stress. Were
achieving higher productivity and can spend more time on further
improvements!

Cost benefits
P150,000 has been spent on new equipment (with a working life of at least 15 years)
designed to reduce manual handling hazards. By reducing the number of manual
handling injuries Reyes-Dizon has been able to increase brick production by at least
P50,000 a year.

Leadership
The Production Director supported the project and the Group Health and Safety
Manager gave expert advice.

Worker involvement
At each stage of the initiative, feedback from the workforce has helped the scheme to
improve. Production crews themselves have found solutions to problems that had
affected their work for years.
