donethusfar,partlybecauseIfoundthatLeCorbusierstartedoutwithafewcommon
ThemesabouttheCitythatwehaveincommon:Thecityisabeast(truly
unpredictable),clearandconciseobjectivessothatitisclearwhatyouareworking
towards,Anddonotplanbyreactiontocurrentproblems,planinordertoproduce
fundamentalprinciplesinwhichsaidproblemscanbecontrolledandreduced/Managed.

)becausehemadearrogantstatements
abouthowhisplanwouldbereceivedie:Therewerenonotestoaccompanytheplans,
and,alas!noteverybodycanreadaplan.crazygloating.

LeCorbusiersfrequentlyreferredtomakingsuretrafficwasmanageableatmany
pointsalthoughitwasaplanforacontemporarycityofthreemillion,ifsuccessfulwould
settheframeworkforbiggercities,suchasLondon,Paris,Berlin,andevensmaller
towns.Thissoundslikeaonesizefitsallconformityplan,butLeCorbusierstateshis
objectiveisnttoovercometheexistentstateofthings,hewantedtoformatheoretical
formulatoobtainthefundamentalprinciplesthatwouldnotonlydefinemoderntown
planningbutserveasaframeworkforanysystemofmodernplanning.Byusingtwo
mainarguments:Firsttheessentiallyhumanargumentsfromtheheartbaseofour
sensations.Secondhistoricalandstatisticalargumentstokeepintouchwithwhats
fundamentaltotheland.Cleardefinitionsaregivenasrequirementstoobtainanswers
andhowtogoaboutcomparingthemtogetanswers,makingthereadingnotonly
easiertoreadbuteasiertounderstandandretain.Site,Population,Density,andAir
qualityIncreasedgreenSpaces,TheStreets,andallimportantdefinitionsgivenforwhat
hewantedtheoutcomeofthemtobeandhowtheywouldworktopositivelybenefitthe
ModernContemporaryCity.Iwasimpressedbythenotionofhavingthemodernstreet
bejustasmuchamatterofconstructionashouses,whichwhenIthinkforU.S.cities,
notasmuchbutwhenIthinkofdevelopingnationswithbigcities,itverymuchsocould
beappliedandhavepositiveramifications.Alsoplannedtocutthenumberofstreetsby
twothirdsbecausethenumberofcrossingswereanenemytotraffic,congestionwas
buildingupbecauseofcrossroadsateveryfiftyyards,LeCorbusierfigured400yards
wouldthenormalseparationofstreets(duetovehiclespeedsandpedestrianwalking
capacity),andbasedhisplanonagridironsystemwithstreetsseparatedby400yards
andoccasionalstreetswithhalfthatdistance.comprehensiveplanningforsafetyofboth
pedestriansandvehicles.Allaroundgreatopenspacereallymademeliketheplan
morethanIalreadydid,Iambigongreenspaceandparks,whichworkswell
especiallyinTheCitywhichcanbecomeovercrowdedandstuffyyouneedoutletsand

therestorativepowersandgreenspaces,LeCorbusierplannedout3.6millionsquare
yardsatthebaseandallaroundtheskyscrapersofgreenspace,gardens,parks,and
avenues,whichwillbehousingrestaurants,cafes,luxuryshops,theatres,halls,
parkingplace/garageandshelters.

Thecitiesdesignandarchitecturalplannotonlykeepthecitymodernbutit
enhancestheuseofitsresources(water,greenspace),notonlycanyouhave
skyscrapersinthecitybutyoucanalsoenjoythebeautyofasunsetwithoutworrying
aboutitbeingblockedbybuildings.Elevatedmotortracksfortrafficcontrol,justafewof
theideasputforthbyLeCorbusierwhichIbelievewerenotonlyinterestingbutcould
beveryusefulinthemoderndaysociety,aswellasdevelopingcountries.
