This container is a self-contained unit that comprises all the components necessary for the safe operation of the
genset contained therein. The container unit has been pre-tested to the extent possible and is ready for operation
following the installation of roof attachments and connection of onsite media (fuel gas, power, external supply for
auxiliary drives, use of heat provided by the customer (if applicable)). The required tasks to be performed are
limited to installing the roof attachments (if applicable) and connecting interfaces as described above, as well as
those operating fluids available (cooling water, lubricants, etc.). Onsite commissioning tasks may vary depending
on the design and scope of the system.
The container enclosure provides the necessary protection against the effects of weather. The container enclosure
ensures that the noise created by the gas engine is kept to a defined minimum.
Containers are equipped with access and maintenance doors and removable structural elements, which enable
components to be moved in and out of the container.
In order to protect the environment, the floor plates of the containers are designed as oil sumps and equipped with
detection devices (holding capacity: 110% of the fluids inside the container). This is compliant with the WHG
(German Federal Water Act).
The exact technical design of containers may vary, depending on the series and application.

2.1.1
Container enclosure
A modified version of the ISO 40ft Custom Container, manufactured for the specific application, serves as base
structure.
Compared to a regular ISO Container, this container is wider and higher in dimension.
The container is typically divided into two rooms:
the machine room, which contains the genset, heat extraction system, and the auxiliary drive units, and a second,
separate room for the switchgear.
The generator is placed on the support rails that are anchored into the floor. The machine room accommodates
further components necessary for the operation of the genset, e.g., gas, lubrication oil, or cooling systems, and the
generator power control panel.
The control system for the facility (MTU Module Control, MMC) and the electrical components for the auxiliary drive
units are located in the second, separate room.
The heat exchangers required for cooling the engine and the mixture, as well as the exhaust gas silencer are
arranged on the roof. Following transport, these roof attachments should be installed on the roof of the container.
Onsite connections for gas, power supply, and auxiliary drive units are located along the side wall.
Onsite connections for using the heat (optional) of the engine cooling water can be found on the roof of the
container.

The generator power control panel is the interface to the customer's network.
This module is also used when disconnecting the system from the main power supply.
A separate feed point is used for providing the external feed (optional) required for island mode for the most
important auxiliary drive units, which are required for safe operation.
The aforementioned components can be accessed and operated from the outside.
The place of installation is along the side wall of the container.

The cooling systems must be operated with a mixture of water and antifreeze/corrosion protection agent in
accordance with the fluids and lubricants specifications of MTU Onsite Energy.
Mechanically or electrically operated mixing valves are used to control the temperature required in the cooling
systems.
Radiators with electric blowers are fitted on the container roof and ensure the heat exchange to the surroundings.
The technical design of these components may vary.

The heat extraction (optional) of the HT circuits and the exhaust gas heat exchange (if applicable) are realized by
using an additionally fitted plate heat exchanger. To this end, the heat generated by the running gas engine (HT
circuit) is absorbed by the cooling water and transferred to the secondary circuit via the plate heat exchanger. An
exhaust gas heat exchanger (if applicable) is also integrated into the hydraulic system of the secondary circuit. A
further plate heat exchanger enables the customer to use the thermal energy for subsequent applications (heat
circuit, process heat, etc.). The plate heat exchanger provides for hydraulic separation between the systems.
Onsite connections for using the heat (optional) of the engine cooling water can be found on the roof of the
container.
The exact design of the heating system/cooling system may vary, depending on the application and/or selected
options.

The exact technical design and/or installation location of the exhaust gas system may vary depending on system
requirements and scope of the system.
The components of the exhaust gas system are thermally insulated. The insulation usually comprises rock wool
combined with sheet metal, which reduces the surface temperature to a defined minimum.
Utilization of the exhaust gas (optional) is achieved with the aid of an exhaust gas heat exchanger. The exhaust
gas system is installed on the roof of the container.

The oil service life is extended through the use of oil ejection. The lubrication oil volume in the oil sump is thereby
virtually maximized. To this end, a small quantity of the circulating lubrication oil is regularly removed from the oil
sump, and "ejected" into the reservoir. Concurrently, the oil sump is replenished with a quantity of fresh lubrication
oil equal to that of the "ejected" oil. In this way, the circulating oil is being continuously refreshed/exchanged. The
maximized overall volume allows for longer intervals between oil changes.

Fuel energy is converted into mechanical power and heat in the internal combustion engine. The generator, which
converts the mechanical power into electrical energy, is connected to the engine by means of a flexible coupling.
The generator is mounted on two slide rails, so that it can be moved when the coupling element needs to be
replaced. The engine and the generator are connected to the base frame via flexible, vibration-dampening
elements. The engine control system (MTU Interface Panel, MIP) is also installed on the base frame.
