innovation to compete with other company.

Discussion Questions (Pages 14)

2) Basic research important to help us to understand issues and the solving problem in
organization.
8. a) Scenario 1 - Applied research and basic research because it is depending on who did
the research and the person that have a authority to solve the problems.
Scenario 2 - Basic research to solve the problem about absenteeism of employees in
organizations.
Scenario 3 - Basic research because that research want to know the effective way for
organization from a service failure. So he/she need to provide several data about the
service.

8. b) Company need make a research about the issue that have risks and after make a basic
research, they need to make a applied research from a collected data such as the
problem occur in the company.

Chapter 2
Discussion Questions (Pages 31)
2) 7 steps of Hypothetico-Deductive Method
I.

Identify a broad problem area observing the issues and focusing on the situation.
For example, make a research on third year UMK students.

II.

Define the problem statement - identified problem. For example, The absenteeism
among third year of UMK students to the class.

III.

Develop hypotheses - what we predict about it and how to solve it. For example,
reasons for absenteeism are over slept, not manage their time well and not alert with
their class timetable.

IV.

Determine measures the variables in theoretical framework are measured in some

way. For example, find out how many third year students and how many students that
only need in data collection.

V.

Data collection the process of gathering and measuring information on variables.

For examples, by using questionares.

VI.

Data analysis process of evaluate data. For example, coded, keyed in and edited
data that had collected which is to categorize the data.

VII.

Interpretation data - decide data analysis are support or not by interpreting the
meaning of result. For example, after categorize the data, we can know majority
reasons of people about absenteeism among third year of UMK students.

4) Deduction
Deduction is application of a general theory to a specific case. For example, the results
that we had collect from students about the absenteeism among the UMK students.
Induction.
Induction is a process where we observe specific phenomena and on this basis arrive at
general conclusions. For example, identify the total number of collected data.

6) Epistimology is the disagreement about the nature of knowledge or how we come to know
a long history and it is not restricted to research in business. The important to know the
different perspectives is we will successively deal and to make a point will sometimes
exaggerate the descriptions of these research perspectives.

7) Positivism
Positivism is to understand the world well enough so that we are able to predict and
control it. Positivism is concerned with the rigor and replicability of their research, the
reability of observation and the generalizability of findings.
Constructionism
Constructionism is held the opposite view, namely that the world is fundamentally
mental or mentally constructed. The aim is to understand the rules of people use to make
sense of its do not search for the objective truth.
