Context for Learning (EdTPA): For students to be able to compare and contrast between the
religions Hinduism and Buddhism.
Common Core State Standard(s): Compare the development of early world religions and
philosophies and their key tenets.
Instructional Objective: The students will learn the similarities and differences between the
native religions of India called Hinduism and Buddhism.
Student-friendly Objective(s): (8.3.1- I can define philosophy, religion, and tenets) (8.3.2- I
can identify the key tenets of early world religions and philosophies)
Prerequisite Concept(s) or Skill(s): Identifying cultural contributions of early world religions
and philosophies, such as Hinduism and Buddhism.

Language Demand: Academic Language: The student being able to understand what the
worksheet requires in order to complete the task; Syntax: Students being able to complete
graphic organizer correctly.
Key Vocabulary: Nirvana, Meditate, Monastery, Mahayana Buddhism, Theravada Buddhism,
and Enlightenment
Model of Delivery: Direct Instruction, the students were given a worksheet with graphic
organizers comparing and contrasting Hinduism/Buddhism.
Accommodations/Grouping: Differentiation is demonstrated among the students with the
advanced students being placed by their seating in with normal or not as gifted learners to
help them along.
Materials, Equipment and Resources: Smartboard was used for the Do Now as well as the
Reflect Now, also gave out worksheets to the students.

Hinduism and Buddhism?


Studying of India and all the
different religions that originated
there, also how it spread.
The lesson lasted almost 15
minutes.
The student needed to learn the
comparisons and differences of the
two religions to complete
worksheet.
Using different methods of teaching
by Smartboard and use of
Worksheet.
The students had to complete the
worksheet on their own.
Using the Reflect Now at the end of
class was an overview of what the
students had learned, and how well
the students comprehended the
material.

Assessment and Evaluation: Whole group assessment with what we call the reflect now, which
is an overview of what was covered during the lesson at the end of class.
Extension: For students to be prepared to move onto the next section next class.
