Instructions for using this prototype with the included wav files.

Delete previous versions and copy all included files to a folder.

I have included some INI files which will set up the decoder for each wav file.

To try file 'All P noisy 370280.wav'

If CWDecoder.INI is present then delete it.
Copy or rename file 'All P noisy 370280.INI' to 'CWDecoder.INI'
Run CWDecoder.exe
Go to debug page, select test file 'All P noisy 370280.wav'
Click start button..see note 1

'20wpm8knoisyLess.wav'
If CWDecoder.INI is present then delete it.
Copy or rename file '20wpm8knoisyLess.INI' to 'CWDecoder.INI'
Run CWDecoder.exe
Go to debug page, select test file '20wpm8knoisyLess.wav'
Click start button..see note 1

'Sound clip 89.wav'

If CWDecoder.INI is present then delete it.
Copy or rename file 'Sound clip 89.INI' to 'CWDecoder.INI'
Run CWDecoder.exe
Go to debug page, select test file 'Sound clip 89.wav'
Click start button..see note 1

Note 1. Due to a program bug please wait for about 5 seconds before clicking sta
rt button when program first run or after selecting a new wav file.
Note 2. File 'All P noisy 370280.wav' is at 10 wpm. It was recorded from a radio
beacon at 3.70280 MHz
CWDecoder decodes it at about 95% accuracy
Note 3. File '20wpm8knoisyLess.wav' is a simulated transmission from NuMorse Pro
at 20 wpm. This decodes with 100% accuracy. The errors in the decoded text are
in the Morse signal, they are not decoding errors.
Note 4. File 'Sound clip 89.wav' is the one you sent. As you know, this is not a
n accurate recording and it decodes at about 75% accuracy. I think I will be abl
e to improve this.
Note 5. I think that a good signal input direct from a receiver will give much h
igher decoding accuracy of MMB traffic. You will need to find a way to connect y
our PC to a receiver for testing the decoder. I am using a USB Edirol UA25 inter
face unit here for audio in/out of the PC but you should be able to use your PC
soundcard instead. This should be easy using a simple cable from the receiver he
adset output to your soundcard mic. or line input.

To decode a Morse signal from a receiver or recorded file;

1. Start CWDecoder

2. If recording from a file then go to the Debug page and check the 'From file'
option. Also select the file. If decoding from a radio then leave 'From File' op
tion unchecked.
3. Select speed on the Settings page, normally this will be 20 wpm (But 'All P n
oisy 370280.wav'is 10 wpm)
4. Click start (See note 1 above)
5. You need to tune the decoder to the required signal.
a) Go to the waterfall page and move the frequency slider onto the required sign
al.
OR
b) Click the 'Scan all'button. (Sometimes this does not give accurate tuning..to
be fixed)
6. You may need to adjust bandwidth and threshold sliders for best results. Band
width 10-20 is usually OK. Threshold at 50 is usually good. Leave the (green) sq
uelch control at 0 in this version...it is not working properly yet.
