Rationale of the Course:

Todays organizations operate in a highly competitive business environment under the changing
scenario of liberalization and globalization. This course SML 829 : Current and Emerging Issues in
Strategic Management has a focus on the issues companies deal with as they progress and form
Strategies on the real time line and futuristic time line. This course deals with Current and Emerging
Issues in Strategic Management of any organisation that any functional activity can be performed in
a companys home country or in a foreign country as Strategic Management is concern with
Strategy/ies related to some or all of companys activities and its impact on the performance of the
comapany. This course also examines the various Strategic Management Perspectives which
evolves due to Current and Emerging Issues in Strategic Management which creates impact on
performance of any company and how successfully a company deals with current and emerging
issues arise due to their strategies on real time and in future.
Current and Emerging Issues in Strategic Management is relevant for integration of business
environment of any organisation in which a company operates and for all the business organizations
operating in their own nation and globally. Further, in the changing business environment globally
in terms of turbulence, chaos and paradoxes is leading to shift in strategy paradigms by addressing
Current and Emerging Issues in Strategic Management.
The basic inputs of strategy and strategic management in situations of current business scenarion
will be covered in this course. There are number of standard texts that will be supplemented by
advance readings and case studies both from Indian and foreign origin organizations.

The course aims at providing necessary knowledge and tools to appreciate, anticipate, acquire, and
use the knowledge of Current and Emerging Issues in Strategic Management which impact the
performance of any company/organisation so that they devise congruent strategies for attaining a
competitive edge at the national global market place. The emphasis would be to relate the practical
experiences of the participants with the theories, and frameworks developed for deeper understanding
of Current and Emerging Issues in Strategic Management. On completion of this course students will
be able to understand the relevance and importance of performance measurement by addressing
Current and Emerging Issues in Strategic Management and devising sustainable strategy in
creating competitive advantage for sustaining growth in business operations pursued by companies
in local and global market place.

Course Delivery Methodology: The methodology for the course delivery will be based on current
frameworks of strategic management i.e. Balanced Scorecard/ SAP-LAP analysis/ Game Card and
other relevant frameworks related to performance analysis and measurement of organisations. ( Ref.
Annexure-I, at the end of this document) and Cases/ Readings ( Ref. Annexure; II)

Objectives of Course
The main objective of this course is to present the concepts, techniques and applications that will
be needed to understand, anticipate, acquire, and use knowledge of Current and Emerging
Issues in Strategic Management for attaining a competitive edge by a company/organisation.
It will help in understanding of strategic perspectives of organization in coherence with their
business environment, which has become a very crucial issue in todays competitive international
business environment by addressing Current and Emerging Issues in Strategic Management.

It will develop the ability of the modern-day managers to analyze and make strategic decisions
leading to high corporate performance at lower cost of their business operations leading to high
competitiveness of the firms in relevant market place of their business operations.
The course gives an understanding of wider and deep perspective of Strategic Management by
analyzing Current and Emerging Issues in Strategic Management surrounding their business
operations, and is intended for students who wish to take up senior managers role in strategic
management.

Course Guidelines
1. There is minimum requirement of 75% attendance to be appeared in the exam. In case of less
than 75% attendance, 1 grade will be lowered. And, in case of every 5% more attendance above
75% there will be 1 additional mark given. If the attendance is below 50%, the candidate will not be
allowed to appear in Major Test.
2. The term project marking is divided as: Synopsis: 3 marks; Project report: 7 marks; Presentation:
5 marks. In case of late submission of synopsis, two marks will be deducted. No marks will be given
to the student who is not present in group presentation. (Due dates will be assigned later)
3. The students need to give the list of groups and their respective class presentation schedule to
the class representation within a 2 week of the commencement of the course. Subsequently, the list
should be given to the teaching assistant of the course.
