SPECIFICATION No.

1.0 GENERAL DESCRIPTION
1. INTRODUCTION
The proposed ventilation system has been designed for basements of Ananda being
developed by M/s Bestech Ltd.
The specifications to follow cover general requirements of design, preparation of detailed
drawings, supply of material, manufacture, testing, inspection, packing, forwarding,
transportation, transit insurance, delivery at site, installation, testing and commissioning at
site and carrying out acceptance test of the equipment, materials and services as per enclosed
documents.
2. SCOPE OF WORK
The scope shall include development of a total system and design of their sub-systems as per
concepts and parameters given herein, providing engineering drawings and data for approval
by Customer / Consultants.
This will consist of supply, installation, balancing, testing & commissioning of the following
in conformity with the tender, General Terms & Conditions, Special Conditions,
Specifications, Bill Of Quantities, attached drawings, drawings to be submitted by the
Contractor and approved by the Consultant. The Contractor shall carry out the said work
under the Contract in every respect in conformity with the Contract documents and with the
directions of and to the satisfaction of the supervisor. The Contractor shall furnish all labour,
materials and equipment (except those to be supplied by the owner) as listed under schedule
of quantities and specified otherwise, transportation etc., for supply, installation, testing and
commissioning of complete Ventilation as described in specifications and shown on
drawings. This also includes any material, equipment, work not specifically mentioned in the
drawings / documents but which are necessary to make a complete installation. In general,
the work to be performed under this Contract shall comprise of supply and installation of the
following: a.

Supply and return / exhaust air grills/ louvers
Packing and transportation from manufacturers works to site.
Receipt, unloading and conservation of equipment at site. Transportation to erection site.
Pre-assembly wherever required, erection of system. All tools, tackles and erection
equipment required shall be arranged by the contractor.
g. Balancing, testing and commissioning of entire installation.
h. Test reports, list of spares, as built drawings and O&M manuals for entire installation
i. Cuttings holes, chases and the like through all type of non structural walls and finishings
for all service crossings including sealing, frame work, fire proofing, providing sleeves,
cover plates, making good the structure and finishes to an approved standard.
j. Hoisting of equipment to required locations shall be in scope of Ventilation contractor.

3.

ITEMS REQUIRED FOR VENTILATION SYSTEM BUT NOT INCLUDED IN SCOPE


AND TO BE ARRANGED THROUGH OTHER AGENCIES

3.1 Ventilation system shall be complete in all respects in conformity with requirements given in the
tender with exception of following items, which shall be provided by other agencies.
However, for these, the Contractor shall timely supply detailed drawings duly approved by
the Consultant for the provisions to be kept and shall supervise that the provisions required
are correctly kept.
3.2 Any kind of masonry and structural work e.g., making openings in roofs, slabs, walls for passage
of ducting, Equipment rooms, foundations for equipment.
3.3 Air tight fire doors with minimum one hour fire rating for blower rooms room and other
equipment rooms.
3.4 Fixing of wooden frames for Grills and Diffusers.
3.5 False ceiling and boxing to cover the ducts, wherever required.

3.6 The same are as detailed in Appendix-2 are enclosed as a part of tender documents.
3.7 Spaces allocated for equipment and openings as shown in the drawings are fixed and no
deviation will be allowed. The drawings indicate a feasible scheme based on spaces available
and equipment may be rearranged in the spaces allocated subject to Consultants prior
approval. These drawings are not meant to be working drawings which shall be prepared by
contractor as required.
4. BASIS OF DESIGN
The basis of design and proposed scheme are detailed in Appendix-1.
5. ELECTRIC SUPPLY
415 10%, 3 phase, 50Hz AC electric power requirements for system will be as per details
given in Appendix-2

3.0 SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS /INSTRUCTIONS TO TENDERER
SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS
1.

In addition to information called for in Data Sheet 'A', the data/information called for below
shall be specifically enclosed with the bid.

2.

The tenderer shall specifically confirm that blowers as indicated in tender drawings are
adequate for equipment offered by him.

3.

Descriptive catalogues / leaflets for equipment with constructional and operational features

4.

Performance curves / rating charts based on which equipment selection is made.

5.

Receiving of material at site shall be done by the tenderer's representative. During


installation, testing commissioning and carrying out acceptance test, atleast one engineer of
the tenderer shall be available all the time at the site.

6.

All tools, tackles and erection equipment required for installation and instruments required
for the carrying out commissioning and acceptance tests shall be arranged by the tenderer.

7.

The tenderer shall furnish a list of spare parts required for two years of smooth operation and
indicated price of each item separately.

8.

The tenderer shall quote the earliest possible completion period. Early completion period
will be essence of the contract.

9.

All instruments and gauges used for testing and inspection shall have valid calibration and the
accuracy shall be traceable to national standards.

10.

The motor ratings indicated in the Bid shall be final and the Vendor is not permitted to change
this after award of contract. Motor ratings shall be atleast 15% more than the computed value
at the designed duty point.

11.

Vibration isolation, mounting/installation of structural frames for all equipments shall be in


Vendors' scope of work.

12.

Ignorance of site conditions shall not be accepted as basis for any claim for compensation.
The submission of tender by the tenderer will be construed as evidence that such an
examination was made and any later claims/disputes in regard to price quoted shall not be
entertained or considered.

INSTRUCTIONS TO TENDERER
1.

The bidder shall furnish the prices and delivery of the equipment strictly as called for in this
specification.

2.

The quantities of ducting, grills, etc. given in "Schedule of Quantities" are indicative only
and may vary. In case, there is any variation in the quantities of the items actually installed
from the quoted quantities, the price of the same shall be adjusted based on the unit rates
furnished by the Vendor.

3.

The unit rates shall be valid both upward and downward variations in quantities.

4.

The tenderer shall include suitable quantities of splitters, elbow vanes, canvas connections in
ducting unit rates as a lumpsum. No separate unit rates shall be admissible for these items.

4.0 CODES AND STANDARDS

1.

All equipments, systems and works covered under this specification shall comply with all
currently applicable statutes, regulations, standards and safety codes in the locality where the
equipment will be installed. All equipment and systems comply in all respects with the
requirements of latest editions of codes and standards as indicated in various sections.

2.

Other National Standards established to be equivalent or superior to the codes and standards
specified are also acceptable. The tenderer shall furnish English translation of all standards
specified in this specification.

3.

In the event of any conflict between codes and standards referred to in the specification and
the requirements of this specification, the more stringent of this requirements shall govern.

5.0 MAINTENANCE REQUIREMENT

1.

In order to carry out preventive maintenance, it should be possible to readily disassemble,


repair, reassemble the equipment in the shortest period and to attend to any defect by a
minimum disassembly.

2.

The tenderer shall furnish one complete set of any special maintenance tools required for
normal maintenance of equipment.

3.

The tenderer shall confirm that space shown for the equipment is adequate from point of view
of access, easy maintenance and for day to day operation.

4.

All system must have convenient maintenance characteristics including:a) Minimum disturbance to production during preventive maintenance
b) Easy access to replacement part which can be installed by personnal with minimum skill.

6.0 SPECIAL CONDITION OF CONTRACT
1. PRICES:
The prices to be quoted by the intending tenderer shall include the supply and installation, at
the site, of all equipment, ancillary material and other items whatsoever required for carrying
out the job to fulfill the intent and purposes as laid down in the specifications and/or the
drawings.
The Tenderers price shall be deemed to include all nuts, bolts, shims, clamps, supports etc,
as required for proper fixing and/or grouting of equipment, ancillary items etc. Whether
specifically mentioned or not the Contractor shall also include, in his price, all taxes duties or
other levies (viz. Excise duty, customs duty, sales tax, octroi, works contract tax etc.,) which
are legally livable on the air-conditioning equipment and installation. Failure to include all
livable taxes and duties will not entitle the Contractor to any extra claims from the employer.
The Contractors rate shall remain firm and fixed during the execution of the Contract.
However, the price shall be subject to adjustment, in case of statutory variation in the rate of
any taxes or duties due to an act of legislature, within the originally agreed period, for the
completion of the work.
2. ASSEMBLY AND INSPECTION:
Shop assembly of all parts shall be made to ensure that all parts are properly fitted to
minimize erection problems.
The purchaser reserves the right to inspect any machinery, material and equipment
(hereinafter collectively called Apparatus) finished or used by the Contractor under this
Contract and may reject which is defective in workmanship or design or otherwise unsuitable
for the use and purpose intended or which is not in accordance with the intent of this
Contract. The Contractor shall on demand by the purchaser; remedy/replace at the
Contractors expenses any such defective or unsuitable apparatus. The Contractor shall
advise the purchaser in advance when apparatus is ready for inspection in the Contractors
workshop and/or in his sub suppliers workshop.
The purchase inspector shall at all times have access to all parts of shop where apparatus is
being manufactured and also shall be provided with all reasonable inspection facilities by the
Contractor and his sub supplier.
None of the apparatus to be furnished or used in connection with this Contract will be
supplied until shop inspection and performance testing, wherever possible, satisfactory to the
purchasers inspector has been made. Such shop inspection of the apparatus shall not
however, relieve the Contractor from full responsibility for furnishing the apparatus
Confirming to the requirements of this Contract not prejudice any claim, right or privilege
which the purchaser may have because of the supply of defective or unsatisfactory apparatus.
Should the purchaser waive the right to inspect any apparatus, such waiver shall not relieve
the Contractor from his obligation under this Contract.

3. WORKING DRAWINGS, MAINTENANCE MANUALS ETC :


On the award of the work, the Contractor shall immediately proceed with the preparation of
detailed working drawings detailing the equipment that are to be installed and the ancillary
works that are to be carried out. Three sets of all such working drawings shall be submitted
to the engineer-in-charge, for his approval to ensure that the works will be carried out in
accordance with the specifications and drawings, including such changes as may have been
mutually agreed upon. All the drawings shall be received by the engineer-in-charge for his
approval within three weeks of the award of work. The approval of the drawings by the
engineer-in-charge shall in no way relieve the Contractor from his obligations to provide a
complete and satisfactory plant and installation as per intent. Omissions and/or errors shall be
made good or rectified whether or not the drawings are approved. Prior to the completion of
the work the Contractor shall furnish (4) four sets of comprehensive manuals, describing all
components, furnishing a list of instructions for the operations and maintenance of the plant.
The Contractor shall also fix in the plant room neatly typed and framed, instructions in detail,
for the starting and running of the plant.
Any special tools required for the operation or the maintenance of the plant shall be supplied
free with the plant.
4. ERECTION AND COMMISSIONING:
The Contractor shall carry out the complete erection and commissioning. All work shall
commence on previously prepared foundation. All the materials shall be moved from their
place of storage into the plant by the Contractor. The Contractor shall make his own
arrangement to off load equipment/material received at respective rail/road transport terminal
points, dispatched to site and to store all material received at site. The purchaser shall
provide clear storage and erection space only. All erection programme shall be provided by
the Contractor.
All consumables required for erection such as cotton waste, kerosene oil, emery paper, coil
string, bamboos and planks for scaffolding etc as well as necessary welding rods, gases etc
shall be provided by the Contractor. Protective and finish painting shall be carried out by the
Contractor. Carbon steel surface shall be thoroughly cleaned before painting. The Contractor
shall indicate the water and electricity requirements during erection. The Contractor shall
remove all the waste material or rubbish from and about the work site and leave the job
thoroughly cleaned up and ready to use
5. TESTING:
All types of routine tests shall be carried out at the works of the Contractor or the
manufacturers of the components. The Engineer-in-Charge/Architect shall be free to witness
any or all tests if he so desires.
On the completion of the installation, the Contractor shall arrange to carry out various initial
tests as detailed below in the presence of and to the complete satisfaction of the
engineer-in-charge, and their Architects or their representatives. Any defects or shortcomings
found during the tests shall be speedily rectified or made good by the Contractor at his own
expense.
The initial tests shall include but not be limited to the following:

To operate and check the proper functioning of all electrically operated components viz.,
blowers, as well as other electrical motors.
To check the air distribution in the system and to provide design air flow in all areas
specifically shown on the drawings by adjusting the grills, diffusers and dampers, which
should be provided by the Contractor wherever required whether they are specifically shown
on the drawings or not.
To check the system against leaks in different circuits, alignment of motor, V belt
adjustments.
Control setting and all such other tests which are essential for smooth functioning of the
plant.
On the satisfactory completion of all Initial tests, the plant shall be considered to be
Virtually Complete for the purpose of taking over by the employer.

The Contractor shall provide all necessary tools, instruments, gauges, flow meter ammeter
etc. as may be required for conducting the various tests.
6. REJECTION OF DEFECTIVE PLANT :
If on test any portions of the plant, equipment or components are found to be defective or not
fulfilling the intent or the meaning of the specifications, the same shall be replaced or
repaired to the entire satisfaction of the engineer-in-charge, and their Architects.
In case the Contractor fails to remove the defects, within a period considered reasonable, the
employer reserves the right to take necessary remedial measures through other agencies and
all expenses thus incurred would be recovered from the Contractor.
The employer reserves the right to operate all the equipment and complete system whether or
not the plant is taken over after the initial test and commissioning. Any defects found during
the initial or running tests shall be removed at a suitable time as decided upon by the
employer and/or their Architects.
7. COMPLETENESS OF THE PLANT :
The Contractor shall provide all the required materials, equipment, ancillary items etc, to
install a complete and satisfactory plant and system capable of fulfilling the intent and
purpose of the Contract whether or not each and every item is mentioned in the specifications
and/or drawings. Any shortcomings notified at any stage shall be made good at no extra cost.
8. GUARANTEE :
The Contractor shall guarantee that all the material, machinery and components supplied,
fabricated, designed and installed by him shall be free from defects due to faulty design
material and/or workmanship, that the plant shall perform satisfactorily and the efficiency of
the system and all the components shall not be less than the values laid down in the
specifications and the capacities shall be with in + or 3% of the specified values. In case of

deviation greater than + or 3%, the Contractor shall replace the necessary components at no
extra cost or alternately the employer shall be entitled to deduct a proportionate amount from
payments due to the Contractor.
The period of the guarantee shall be (12) twelve months from the date of commissioning,
during which period any or all components found to be defective shall be replaced free of
charge and any shortcomings found in the system as specified shall be removed at no extra
cost. The Contractor shall provide the necessary personnel and tools for fulfilling the above
guarantee.
If for any reason the commissioning cannot be carried out then the plant shall carry a
guarantee for a period of (15) fifteen months from the date of completion of erection at site.
If the defects are not removed within a reasonable time the employer may arrange to do so at
the Contractors risk and cost, without prejudice to any others rights.
9. PERFORMANCE GUARANTEE :
The Contractor shall guarantee that the capacity of various components as well as the whole
system shall not be less than specified.
10. PAINTING
All equipment and ancillary items such as piping, supports etc., will be painted in approved
manner, using colour scheme as approved by the Architect.
11. SAFE CUSTODY AND STORAGE :
Safe custody of all machinery and equipment supplied by the Contractor shall be his own
responsibility till the final taking over by the employer. He should, therefore, employ
sufficient staff for watch and ward at his own expenses. The employer may, however, allow
the Contractor to use the Plant/AHU rooms, etc. for temporary storage of his equipment if
such spaces are ready and available.
12. BYE-LAWS AND REGULATIONS :
The installation shall be in conformity with the Bye-laws, regulations and standards of the
local authorities concerned, but if these specifications and drawings call for a higher standard
of material and equipment than those required by above regulations and standards, then these
specifications and drawings shall take precedence over said regulations & standards.
13. QUIET OPERATION AND VIBRATION ISOLATION :
All equipment shall operate under all conditions of load without any sound or vibration,
which is objectionable in opinion of the supervisor. In case of rotating machinery, sound or
vibration noticeable outside the room, if considered objectionable shall be corrected by
Contractor at his own expense. All vibrating equipment located on terrace shall be mounted
on steel structure and suitably vibration isolated.
Where manufacturer has furnished specific instructions, relating to the material and

equipment used in this project, covering points not specifically mentioned in these
documents, each instructions shall be followed in all cases.
14. TEST READINGS :
All the equipment shall be supplied by the contractor after testing and test readings shall be
submitted.
15. BALANCING, TESTING AND COMMISSIONING:
Balancing of all air and water systems and all tests as called for the specifications shall be
carried out by the contractor through a specialist ground, in accordance with the
specifications and ASHRAE guide lines and standards. Performance test shall consist of
three days of 10 hour each operation of system for each season.
The results shall be submitted for scrutiny. Four copies of the certified manufacturers
performance curves for each piece of equipment, high lighting operational parameters for the
project, shall be submitted along with the test certificates. Contractor shall also provide four
copies of record of all safety and automatic control settings for the entire installation.
The installation shall be tested again after removal of defects and shall be commissioned only
after approval by the owner's representative. All tests shall be carried out in the presence of
the representatives of the architect/engineer.
16. MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENTS :
All material and equipments shall conform to the relevant Indian Standards and shall be of
approved make and design. Makes shall be strictly in conformity with list of approved makes
as per section 8.0.
17. MODES OF MEASUREMENTS :
The modes of measurements shall be as per IS.
18. CONTRACTORS CONFIRMATION :
The contractor shall confirm adherence to safety codes, design requirements & performance
guarantee.
19. TECHNICAL INFORMATION TO ACCOMPANY BIDS :
Technical information of equipment shall be furnished along with the manufacturers
catalogues.
20. VARIATION IN QUANTITIES :
The quantities of ducting, insulation, grills & diffusers given in the schedule of quantities
are indicative only and may vary as per the final approved drawings. In case there is any
variation in the quantities of the items actually installed from the quoted quantities, the same

shall be adjusted based on the units rates available in the contract. The rates shall remain firm
till the completion of the project.
21. CLEARING :
Before commissioning of the plant, all mechanical equipment and ductwork shall be flushed /
blown clear to ensure that they are thoroughly cleaned.
22. ACCESSIBILITY :
The contractor shall verify the sufficiency of size of all equipment rooms, shaft openings and
clearances for proper installation of equipment and ducting/piping. The contractor shall
locate all equipment, which must be serviced, operated or maintained in fully accessible
positions.
23. INTERPRETATION IN CASE OF CONTRADICTION WITHIN CONTRACT DOCUMENT :
In case of any contradictions between general conditions of contract, technical specifications,
special conditions, bill of quantities, consultants drawings or contractors drawings, the most
stringent of the lot shall prevail and interpretation by owner in this regard shall be final.
24. COORDINATION WITH OTHER AGENCIES :
The contractor shall maintain close coordination with other connected agencies and offer
maximum cooperation to ensure that the project can be smoothly completed in time.
25. TECHNICAL SUBMITTAL :
The contractor shall submit within 10 days from award of work & release of advance
payment and obtain approval of the consultant of item-wise selection of equipment, design
Calculations, duct sizes, pipe sizes and all distribution supported by calculations,
tables/charts to the consultants satisfaction.
26. COMPLETION PERIOD:
The entire work is required to be completed in all respects including testing and
commissioning within two months of award of letter of intent.
Timely completion will be the essence of the contract. Bidder shall furnish a Bar Chart
indicating all the activities and showing their completion.

BASIS OF SYSTEM DESIGN
1. INTRODUCTION
A ventilation and smoke exhaust system has been designed for the basements of proposed
Group housing in sector 81 Gurgaon, Haryana .The building will include single basement at
site C which are the parking spaces and house service areas

3.0

SYSTEM DESIGN

3.1

For Basements and services area mechanical exhaust and natural intake of Supply air
have been considered.

3.2

For emergency smoke exhaust axial flow fans have been considered which shall run in
addition to the normal ventilation fans. The total smoke extraction air quantity is based on
30 air changes per hr as per national building code

7.1 AXIAL FLOW FANS - SPECIFICATIONS
1. SCOPE
1.1 This section covers the technical requirements for manufacture, testing at works, delivery at site,
testing after installation, commissioning of axial flow fan equipment for ventilation and
exhaust system. Their location shall be as given in Schedule of Quantities and drawings.
1.2 The fans shall be complete with all the accessories required for proper installation and
performance consisting mainly of the following: a. Suction and discharge side flanges and counter flanges suitably drilled, complete with
bolts & nuts.
b. Direct driving electric motor.
c. Suspension hangers (for ceiling hung fans only) for vibration isolation
d. Any structural steel and hardware required for assembly, installation, supporting of fan or
accessories.
e. 2 mm thick flexible connectors, fire resistant type at suction and discharge end.
f. Foundation bolts and vibration isolators (in case of floor mounting only).
g. Gravity louvers
2. APPLICABLE SPECIFICATIONS STANDARDS AND CODES.
2.1 Documents listed below should be read along with the technical data given in the Schedule of
Quantities and shall be applicable to the material, manufacture, testing and installation of
axial flow fans and accessories.
(a) I.S.S. : 3588 1986; specifications for electric axial flow fans.
(b) ANSI/ASHRAE : standard 51
(c) ANSI/AMCA : standard 210 for preparing performance curves, charts and testing of fans
(d) IS-2312 Propeller type A.C ventilation fans
(e) BS 848 Methods of performance test for fans
3. DESIGN & MANUFACTURING
3.1 FAN AND COMPONENTS
3.1.1

The fan shall be designed to handle the quantity of air against the static pressure and at
conditions indicated in the technical data. The fan shall have optimum efficiency at
operating conditions and shall have performance characteristics to match the approved
performance curves.

3.1.2

The unit shall be factory built to the highest standards to ensure rigidity, maximum
mechanical and electrical reliability, quite stable and vibration free operation at the prescribed
conditions of flow, static and speed.

3.1.3

The casing shall be fabricated from heavy gauge sheet steel with suction and discharge ends
flanged and complete with counter flanges, G.I. nuts and bolts. The flanges and counter
flanges shall be matched and drilled suitably to receive flexible PVC connections. An
inspection door with handle and neoprene gaskets shall be provided. Support brackets for
ceiling suspension shall be welded to the casing for connection to hanger bolts.

3.1.4

IMPELLER & BLADES


The impeller shall be cast aluminium, aerofoil type with well balanced blades made from cast
aluminium alloy or cast steel construction.

3.1.5

DRIVE
The fan hub and blades shall be directly mounted on the shaft of a totally enclosed motor,
rotor of fan motor shall be well balanced. The motor shall be TEFC, squirrel cage, IP 55
class F and suitable for 415 10% V, 50 HZ 3 phase AC power supply. The motor shall be
dual speed wherever called for in Schedule of Quantities. The maximum motor speed shall
be limited to 1450 RPM. Motor conduit box shall be mounted on exterior of fan casing and
lead wires from motor to conduit box shall be protected from air stream by enclosing in a
flexible metal conduit.

3.1.6

SMOKE EXTRACTION FAN

The fan is required to satisfy the performance criteria specified in BS 7346: Part 2:1990
relating to structural performance, electrical performance and aerodynamic performance
throughout the rated duration
4. TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
4.1 The firm shall submit the technical data and performance characteristics with operating points
duly marked for approval prior to fabrication. The test certificates of all the fans shall be
supplied by the supplier.
5. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS.
5.1 Static, dynamic balancing and vibration: the individual fan impeller, blades, motor shall be static
and dynamically balanced independently after assembly the entire fan motor units shall not
give rise to any vibrations. The balancing shall be as per ISO : 1940 GR 6.3.
5.2 NOISE LEVEL: The tenderer shall indicate the noise level generated by the fan/motor unit in
terms of decibel units to be measured at 3M from the unit. This shall fall in line with best
engineering standard. All fans shall be selected for the lowest operating noise
level not exceeding 75 DB from 3 meter.
Capacity
ratings, power
consumption, with operating points clearly indicated, shall be submitted and
verified at the time of testing and commissioning of the installation

6. PAINTING
All fans and their accessories shall be painted with suitable enamel paint after priming.
The fans shall be dispatched in packed condition to avoid damage during transit insurance for
the fans shall be included in this offer.
7. INSPECTION & TESTING.
7.1 All fans shall be subject to inspection and test requirements as given below. The contactor shall
be responsible for providing all inspection facilities and for conducting all tests at works and
at site after erection. Test certificates for all fans shall be submitted, some fans may be tested
at the factory.
7.2 The performance of the fan motor unit shall be tested by operating at design conditions. The

INLINE EXHAUST FANS

Inline fan shall incorporate SSIW direct driven Centrifugal Fan with TEFC motor. The fan
assembly shall be encased in a sheet metal housing of powder coated 22 gauge GSS and with
necessary inspection cover with proper gasket assembly. The fan material shall be
galvanized sheet steel. Flanges shall be provided on both sides of the Inline fan to facilitate
easy connection. Flexible anti-vibration joints shall be provided to arrest vibration being
communicated to other equipments connected to the Inline fan.
Motor shall be single phase/three phase as per duty conditions. All single phase fans shall be
provided with speed regulators while all three phase fans shall be provided with opposed
blade damper in GSS construction at fan outlet for air balancing.
8.

CO Sensor
The CO Sensor shall be microprocessor based device. The CO detector shall sense the level
of carbon monoxide particle in the air of parking area and shall transmit the proportional
signal to DDC controller for the control of ventilation / exhaust equipment and shall provide
early warning of hazardous concentration of Carbon monoxide. The detector shall cover
minimum range of 0 - 250 PPM for solid state and 0 500 PPM for electro chemical state.
The detector shall have LCD displaying PPM level.
The detector shall operate in the temperature range of 0 - 50 Deg.C and humidity range of 95
%.The detector shall be calibrated as per field conditions.
The detector shall have 2 LEDs for normal and failure indication.
Accuracy level in the range of +/- 1% to be maintained.
Any voltage transformation required shall be part of scope.

7.2 SHEET METAL WORKS AND ACCESSORIES - SPECIFICATIONS
1.

SCOPE

1.1

The scope of this section includes supply, fabrication, installation & testing of all sheet metal
ducts, supply, installation, testing & balancing of all grills & diffusers as per specifications &
drawings.

1.2

Except as otherwise specified all ductwork and related items shall be in accordance with
these specifications.

1.3

Duct work shall mean all ducts, casings, dampers, access doors, joints, stiffeners and hangers

DUCT MATERIALS

2.1

The ducts shall be fabricated from galvanized steel sheets class VIII - Light coating of Zinc
conforming to ISS:277-1962 (REVISED) and with a galvanizing thickness of nominal 120
GM. per SQM surface area.
Only new, fresh, clean (unsoiled) and bright GI sheets/Aluminium shall be used. The
Owner / Consultants reserve the right to reject-summarily sheets not meeting these
requirements. Fabrication of ducts shall be through Lock formers.

2.2

All duct work, sheet metal fabrication unless otherwise directed, shall strictly meet
requirements, as described in IS:655-1963 with Amendment-I (1971 Edition)

2.3

Ducts larger than 450 mm shall be cross broken, duct sections upto 1200 mm length may be
used with bracing angles omitted.

2.4

Changes in section of ductwork shall be affected by tapering the ducts with as long a taper as
possible. All branches shall be taken off at not more than 45 Deg. Angle from the axis of the
main duct unless otherwise approved by the Engineer-in-Charge.

2.5

All ducts shall be supported from the ceiling/slab by means of M.S. rods of 10 MM Dia with
M.S. angle at the bottom of size 40 mm x 40 mm x 6 mm for sizes upto 1500 mm at 2.5 m
intervals. Above size 1500 mm upto 2250, support shall be provided with 10 mm dia. MS
rod and MS angle size 50 mm x 50 mm at bottom at 2.0 m intervals. Above size 2250 mm
support shall be provided with 12 mm dia MS rod and MS angle size 50 mm x 50 mm at
bottom at 1.5 m interval.

3. INSTALLATION
3.1.1. All ducts shall be fabricated and installed in workman like manner, generally conforming to
relevant BIS codes. Round exposed ducts shall be die formed for achieving perfect circle
configuration
3.1.2. Ducts so identified on the drawing shall be accoustically lined and as indicated in Schedule
of Quantities. Duct dimensions shown in drawings are overall sheet metal dimensions
inclusive of the accoustic lining where required and indicated in Schedule of Quantities.
3.1.3. Ducts shall be straight and smooth on the inside with neatly finished joints. All joints shall be
made air tight.
3.1.4. Ducts shall be fabricated as per details shown on drawings. All ducts shall be rigid and shall
be adequately supported and braced where required with standing seams, tees of ample size to
keep the ducts true to shape and to prevent buckling, vibration or breaking.
3.1.5. All sheets metal connections, partitions and plenums required to confine the flow of air to
and through the filters and fans shall be constructed of 18 Gauge GSS thoroughly stiffened
with 25mm x 25mm x 3mm angle iron braces and fitted with all necessary inspection doors
as required to give access to all parts of the apparatus. Doors shall be not less than 45cm X
45cm in size.
3.1.6. Plenums shall be panel type and assembled at site. Fixing of MS angle iron flanges of duct
pieces shall be with rivet heads inside i.e. Towards G.S. sheet and riveting shall be done
from outside.
3.1.7. Rubber gasket 5 mm thick shall be used between duct flanges and between duct and duct
supports instead of felt in all ducting installation for complete sealings. . For smoke extraction
fans, the gaskets shall be suitable for continuous operation in an air stream temperature of 250
C for not less than one hour

3.2.1. During the construction, the Contractor shall temporarily close duct openings with sheet
metal covers to prevent debris entering ducts and to maintain opening straight and square, as
per direction of Engineer-in-Charge.
3.2.2. Great care should be taken to ensure that the duct work does not extend outside and beyond
height limits as noted on the drawings.
3.2.3. All duct work shall be of high quality approved galvanized sheet steel guaranteed not to
crack or peel on bending or fabrication of ducts. All joints shall be tight and shall be made in
the direction of air flow.

The ducts shall be re-inforced where necessary, and must be secured in place so as to avoid
vibration of the duct on its support.
3.2.4. All air turns of 45 degrees or more shall include curved metal blades or vanes arranged so as
to permit the air to make the abrupt turns without an appreciable turbulence. Turning vanes
shall be securely fastened to prevent noise or vibration. All ducts shall be fabricated and
installed in accordance with modern design practice. The sheet metal gauges and fabrication
procedures as given in I.S.S. specifications shall be adhered to and shall be considered as an
integral part of these specifications.
3.2.5. The duct work shall be varied in shape and position to fit actual conditions at building. All
changes shall be in accordance with accepted duct design and subject to the approval of the
engineer-in-charge. The Contractor shall verify all measurements at building and shall notify
the Engineer-in-Charge of any difficulty in carrying out his work before fabrication.
3.2.6. Sponge rubber or approved equal gaskets shall be installed between all connections of sheet
metal ducts to walls. Sheet metal connections shall be made to walls and floors by means of
galvanized steel angles anchored to the building structure with anchor bolts and with the
sheet bolted to the angles. Sheet metal connections shall be as shown in the drawings or as
directed by Engineer-in-Charge.
3.2.7. All ductwork shall be independently supported from building construction. All horizontal
ducts shall be rigidly and securely supported, in an approved manner, with trapeze hangers
formed of galvanized steel rods and galvanized steel angel/channel under ducts. All vertical
ductwork shall be supported by structural members on each floor slab. Duct supports may be
through galvanized steel insert plates left in slab at the time of slab casting. Galvanized steel
cleat with a hole for passing the hanger rods shall be welded to the plates. Trapeze hanger
formed of galvanized steel rods and angles / channels shall be hung through these cleats.
Wherever use of metal insert plates is not feasible, duct support shall be through dash /
anchor fastener driven into the concrete slab by electrically operated gun. Hanger rods shall
then hang through the cleats.
3.2.8. Where ducts pass through brick or masonry openings, it shall be provided with 25 mm thick
TF quality thermocole around the duct prior to sealing of the opening.
3.2.9. All ducts shall be totally free from vibration under all conditions of operation. Whenever
ductwork is connected to fans that may cause vibration in the ducts, ducts shall be provided
with a flexible connection, located at the unit discharge. Flexible connections shall be
constructed of fire retarding flexible heavy canvas sleeve atleast 10 cm long securely but not
more than 200 mm bonded and bolted on both sides. Sleeve shall be made smooth and the
connecting ductwork rigidly held by independent supports on both sides of the flexible
connection. The flexible connection shall be suitable for pressure at the point of installation.
3.2.10. Flanges and supports are to be black, mild steel and are to be primer coated on all surfaces
before erection and painted with aluminium thereafter. Accessories such as damper blades

and access panels are to be of materials of appropriate thickness and the finish similar to the
adjacent ducting, as specified.
3.2.11. The ductwork should be carried out in a manner and at such time as not to hinder or delay the
work of the other agencies especially the boxing or false ceiling Contractors.
4.

DAMPERS

4.1

At the junction of each branch duct with main duct and split of main duct, volume control
dampers must be provided. Dampers shall be rigid in construction to the passage of air.

4.2

The volume dampers shall be of an approved type, lever operated and complete with suitable
level links & quadrants, locking devices which will permit the dampers to be adjusted and
locked in any position.
The dampers shall be of opposed blade or louver type. The damper blade shall not be less
than 1.25 mm (18) gauge and shall not be over 225 mm wide. Automatic and manual volume
opposed blade dampers shall be complete with frames and bronze bearings as per drawings.
Damper frames shall be constructed of 16 gauge steel

4.3

4.4

After completion of the duct work, dampers are to be adjusted and set to deliver the required
amount of air as specified in the drawings.

5.

ACCESS PANEL

5.1

A hinged and gasketed access panel shall be provided on ductwork before each control device
that may be located inside the ductwork. Doors shall be provided with neoprene rubber
gaskets. Angle joints shall be provided with neoprene rubber gaskets for leak tightness of the
joints. Access door/panels shall be provided: Near each smoke sensor
Any other place specifically mentioned in the drawing or if asked by Owner/Consultants
during execution stage.

6.

MISCELLANEOUS

6.1

Sponge rubber gaskets also to be provided behind the flange of all grills.

6.2

Each shoot from the duct, leading to a grille, shall be provided with an air deflector to divert
the air into the grille through the shoot.

6.3

Inspection doors measuring at least 450 mm x 450 mm are to be provided in each system at
an appropriate location, as directed by Engineer-in-Charge.

6.4

Diverting vanes must be provided at the bends exceeding 600 mm and at branches connected
into the main duct without a neck.

6.5

Proper hangers and supports should be provided to hold the duct rigidly, to keep them straight
and to avoid vibrations. Additional supports are to be provided where required for rigidity or
as directed by Engineer-in-Charge.

6.6

All duct supports, flanges, hangers and damper boxes etc. Shall be given 2 coats of red oxide
paint before installation and one coat of aluminium paint after the erection, at no extra cost.

6.7

All angle iron flanges are to be welded electrically and holes to be drilled.

6.8

All the angle iron flanges are to be connected to the GSS ducts by rivets at 100 mm centres.

7.
7.1

SUPPLY AIR GRILLS / REGISTERS


The air velocity in the supply air grill shall be restricted to 4 m/s.

7.2

Supply air grills/registers shall be of in mild steel construction. These shall be single
louvered type, with volume dampers.

7.3

All registers shall have a soft, continuous rubber gasket between the periphery of the register
and the surface on which it has to be mounted. The effective area of the registers shall not be
less than 80%.

7.4

Bar longer than 450 mm shall be reinforced by a set back vertical member.

9.

PAINTING

9.1

All grilles, and diffusers shall be powder coated in colour as approved by


Architect/Consultant before installation.

9.2

All ducts immediately behind the grilles/diffusers etc. Are to be given two coats of black
paint in Matt finish.

10.

TESTING

10.1

After completion, all duct system shall be tested for air leakage.

10.2

The entire air distribution system shall be balanced to supply the air quantity as required in
various areas and the final balance of air quantity through each outlet shall be submitted to
the engineer-in-charge for approval. Measured air quantities at fan discharge and at various
outlets shall be identical to or less than 5% in excess of those specified and quoted. Branch
duct adjustments shall be permanently marked after air balancing is completed so that these
can be restored to their correct position if disturbed at any time.

7.3
AIR-REGISTERS - SPECIFICATIONS
1.

SCOPE
The scope of this section includes supply, installation, testing, balancing and commissioning
of various air distribution products as specified here under. All air distribution products shall
have guaranteed performance rating as regards to air quantities, throw, noise level and
pressure drop etc. Contractor has to provide section curves at the time of supply.

2.

SUPPLY AND RETURN AIR REGISTERS AND CEILING TERMINALS


Supply and return air registers and ceiling terminals shall be made of Powder coated MS
section as specified in BOQ. The registers/terminals shall be either anodized or powder
coated in finish as given in BOQ. Supply air registers/terminals shall be provided with screw
operated opposed blade volume control device of extruded aluminum in mill finish. the
registers shall be suitable for fixing arrangement concealed or visible screw as approved by
architect/consultant.
All registers shall be selected as per selection curved and in consultation with architect/
consultant. All registers shall have soft continuous rubber/foam gasket between the periphery
of the registers/terminals and the surface on which it has to be mounted.

3.

LINEAR FIXED BAR REGISTERS


Linear continuous supply or return air registers shall be extruded aluminum construction with
fixed horizontal bars at 0o to 15o inclination with one way or two way deflection and flanges
on both sides. The thickness of fixed bar louvers shall be 5 min in front and the flange shall
be 20 mm wide with round edges. The register shall be suitable for concealed fixing and
horizontal bars of the register shall be mechanically crimped from the back to hold them.
Volume control device of extruded aluminum construction in mill finish shall be provided in
S.A duct collars.

4.

DOUBLE ADJUSTABLE LOUVERED SUPPLY/RETURN AIR REGISTER WITH


HORIZONTAL/ VERTICAL OR VERTICAL/ HORIZONTAL LOUVER ARRANGEMENT
:
The register shall be adjustable as each louver shall be pivoted to provide pattern with 0o to
15o arc up to 30o deflection down towards. The louver shall hold deflection settings under all
conditions of velocity and pressure. The rear louver of the register shall be in black shade.

5.

SINGLE INDIVIDUAL ADJUSTABLE LOUVERED SUPPLY OR RETURN AIR


REGISTER.
Single individual adjustable horizontal/vertical supply or return air register shall be made of
extruded aluminum construction. The louvers shall hold deflection setting under all
conditions of velocity and pressure since mounted on Nylon bushed. The register shall have
20 mm wide flange all around with front screw fixing.

6.

FRESH AIR INTAKE LOUVERS


Fresh air intake louvers 50 mm deep wherever required as per shop drawing will be made of
extruded aluminum construction duly anodized of power coated. Bird/insect screen will be
provided with the intake louvers. The blades are inclined at 45o on a 40 mm blade pitch to
minimize water ingress. The lowest blade of the assembly shall extended out slightly to
facilitate disposal of rain water without falling in door/wall on which it is mounted.
Wherever specified, the intake louvers shall be provided with factory fitted all aluminum
construction volume control dampers in mill finish.

7.

STORM PROOF LOUVERS :


80 mm deep wherever required as per shop drawing will be made of extruded aluminum
construction. The blades are inclined at 45 degree on 75 mm blade pitch to minimize water
ingress. The lowest blade of the assembly shall extend out slightly to facilitate disposal of
rain water without falling in door/wall on which it is mounted.

7.1

GRAVITY LOUVRS
Easy operation heavy duty back draft extruded aluminum frame blade, with full length
pivoting, vinyl Gasketing extended full length adjustable blade edge seal ,14 gauge arm mill
finished gravity louvrs.

8.

AIR TRANSFER DOOR REGISTER :


Extruded aluminum construction air transfer door register will be provided as per approved
shop drawings. The register will be complete with single/double register frame to be mounted
on door panel from both sides. The central core shall be NO-SEE-THRU type. The register
shall be anodized or powder coated as per requirement. The register shall be provided with
insect screen to prevent movement of insects from inside to outside or vice versa.

9.

INSTALLATION

9.1

All register and grills shall be provided with a soft continuous rubber gaskets between their
periphery and the surface on which these have to be mounted.

9.2

After completion the entire air distribution system shall be tested for air leaks and balanced in
accordance with the specification.

10.

BALANCING

10.1

The air distribution system shall be tested/balanced by Vendor so that the requisite air flow
are maintained throughout the space to be ventilated.

11.2

During start up phase, Vendors shall make all arrangement for drilling and plugging of all test
openings/holes, adjustment of volume dampers, adjusting of fan speed to obtain specified
flows, obtaining actual motor ampere readings and all related functions to ensure the proper
operation of all HVAC systems.

12.3

All instruments required for testing balancing the air distribution system shall be provided by
Vendor.

9: PREAMBLE
1.

The quantities given in the bill of quantities are approximate and are liable to vary due to
exigencies of work. Such variations in quantities shall not, however, vitiate the contract in any
way, whatsoever. The contractor will be paid for the actual measured quantities of work executed
by him at the contract rates for each item of work.

2.

All the items of work shall be executed strictly in accordance with technical specifications,
equipment schedule, drawings and bill of quantities read in conjunction with codes/standards
specified and intent of the specifications. Equipment construction specifications given in the NIT
shall be treated as guidelines only. The equipment offered shall be of standard design and of
normal manufacturing range. It shall be obligatory on the part of the tenderer to furnish all
technical data relevant to the tender along with his offer. In case contractor fails to furnish
relevant technical data of equipments or alternative specifications then NIT specifications shall be
applicable.

3.

The rate for each item of work specified in the bill of quantities shall unless expressly stated
otherwise, include the following (but not limited to the list given below):

a)

All materials, equipment, accessories, supporting structure components, labour, tools, tackles,
plants, incidentals, etc. required for the full and entire execution and completion of the work
including testing and commissioning.

b)

Wastage on materials and labour.

c)

Loading, unloading, transportation, handling/double handling hoisting to all levels, setting out of
work, fixing in position, safe custody, security, disposal of debris and all other labour necessary
for full and complete execution of the work as per specifications.

d)

Liabilities, risk and obligations arising out of conditions of contract.

e)

All taxes, entry tax, toll tax, works contract tax, excise duty, customs duty, octroi, insurance,
packing and forwarding, insurance at site (till handing over), labour insurance or any other levies
etc.

f)

All the requirements of specifications, equipment schedule and drawings whether such
requirements are mentioned in the item or not. Specifications, equipment schedule and drawings
shall be read as part of bill of quantities.

g)

Performance test at site after commissioning of the system.

4.

The bill of quantities finished hereinafter shall be fully priced and the extensions and the totals
duly checked. Tender with lump sum pricing will be rejected.

5.

Unless otherwise stated, the measurements shall be carried out strictly in accordance with mode
of measurements laid down in tender specification.

6.

The term equipment or equal shall mean the equivalent as approved in writing by the consultant.
The provision equivalent shall be operative only if, the specified make of material or equipment is
not available in the market or production of such material is discontinued by the manufacturer.

7.

The prices shall be firm and shall not be subject to any variation due to increase in labour wages,
cost of materials, exchange rate variations, variation in custom duties, excise duty, local levies,
freight, etc. or any other variation due to any reason whatsoever, whether during the stipulated
period of contract or during the extend period of completion if any.

8.

The drawings indicating the nature of work have been issued along with the tender. Successful
tenderer shall prepare his shop drawings/detailed execution drawings/layouts etc. and submit the
same to the Engineer in charge for their approval within 15 days from the date of award of work.

9.

The approval of execution drawings/shop drawings/layout drawings shall not in any way absolve
the contractor of his obligation to fulfil the intent of the specifications.

10.

It shall be contractors responsibility to provide adequate security and safeguard to the materials
supplied at site and the materials/equipment installed at site till the job is completed and handed
over to the employers.
