South Advances

The Georgia High School Association began the first round of

the state Football playoffs last Friday, as thirty-two teams in
each classification began their quest for a state championship.
The Paulding County School Distinct had three teams competing in the playoffs. South Paulding grabbed the runner up position in Region 5-AAAAA and was the only team that advanced to the second round. South defeated Loganville in
their first round match up by a score of 34-16. The Spartans are
advancing to face Drew High School. Drew the #4 seed out of
Region 4-AAAAA defeated Carver-Columbus last week to advance. Game time is set for 7:30 PM at South Paulding High
School. Good Luck Spartans!

The University of West Georgia can lay claim to the most successful collegiate program in the state of Georgia this year. Climbing all the way to a #1 ranking earlier
this year before suffering their only loss of the year, the Wolves have earned a #1
seed in the Division II playoffs and will await the winner of the Carson NewmanValdosta State game. Hiram alums #73 Austin Kastl a junior OL, #8 Ethan Slate a
senior WR and #21 Trevor Wylie a junior K, are all a part of the Wolves program.
Best of luck to each and the Wolves as they begin the playoffs and chase a national
championship.

Do the Math
Whether you love or loathe math, certain numbers
are well worth crunching. Were not talking about
your bank account but rather four essential health
stats: your blood pressure (less than 140/90), LDL
cholesterol (less than 100), blood sugar (less than
100), waist-to-height ratio (less than .5). Achieve
what we call the four normals healthy levels for
all of these markers, and youll reduce your risk of
chronic illness by a spectacular 80 percent.
The power to optimize your health is in your hands
not to mention your feet, your plate, your pillow, and
your social calendar. Eat a rainbow of whole plant
foods and nutritious fats, dont eat more than your
body needs, and keep away from the five food felons
trans fats, saturated fats, added sugars, syrups, and
any grain that isnt 100 percent whole grain.
Move your body a lot! Walk, run, bike, dance,
play tennis and include resistance exercise.)
Do something you love every day.
Dont smoke even a little bit.
Sleep six and a half to eight hours every night.

Prioritize your friendships. Social support, fun,
