JESUS, MARY and the

FIFTEEN PROMISES of the ROSARY

Roman Catholic tradition teaches that in the thirteenth century Mary made fifteen promises to all those who
faithfully pray the rosary. What are these fifteen promises and how do they line up with Biblical teaching?

The FIRST Promise

To all those who shall pray my Rosary devoutly, I promise my special protection and great graces.
This first promise begins a remarkable series of promises where Mary is telling humankind that the fullest of blessings are
in store for them if they will be devout in praying the rosary. The rosary is a series of prayers, prayed with the aid of a set
of beads (called rosary beads) in which the Hail Mary prayer is the most conspicuous, being prayed ten times for every
one Our Father prayer. In saying the Hail Mary one calls upon Mary for help throughout ones life and in ones death.
Can we find anywhere in the Bible an instruction to pray to Mary or hope for her help through her intercession? Nowhere
in scripture do we find any hint that Mary should be looked to for protection and grace. On the contrary, God "ONLY" is
said to make us dwell in safety.
I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety. (Psalm 4:8)

The SECOND Promise

Those who shall persevere in the recitation of my Rosary will receive some special grace.
Scripture never points us to to pray to Mary or be devoted to her in order to receive grace. Again and again, the apostles
point to Jesus Christ as the sole means of grace.
For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. (John 1:7)
But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved, even as they. (Acts 15:11)
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen. (Romans 16:20)
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen. (Romans 16:24)
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. (1 Corinthians 16:23)
Brethren, the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. (Galatians 6:18)
Grace be with all them that love our Lord Jesus Christ in sincerity. Amen. (Ephesians 6:24)
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen. (Philippians 4:23)
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen. (1 Thessalonians 5:28)
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen. (2 Thessalonians 3:18)
Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. (2 Timothy 2:1)
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen. (Philemon 1:25)
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen. (Revelation 22:21)
That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ
Jesus. (Ephesians 2:7)

When the Galatian churches were being persuaded toward a devotion to the law of Moses in order to get "special" help for
the living out of a righteous life, Paul called it "another gospel." He adamantly insisted that he had given them the
complete gospel that did not need any future additions. He declared in the most forceful terms that if anyone, including
any messenger (angel) from heaven, came to them and gave then any message other than the one he had already given
them they were to call that messenger accursed. Paul understood such a turn to any other channel of grace but Christ to be
a perversion of the gospel of Christ.
I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:
Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.
But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you,
let him be accursed.
As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him
be accursed. (Galatians 1:6-9)

The THIRD Promise

The Rosary will be a very powerful armor against hell; it will destroy vice, deliver from sin and dispel heresy.
In effect, this promise is one of salvation. Here we have the claim that it is through devotion to Mary that we can obtain
deliverance from Satan, sin and error. Yet, the apostolic faith teaches that it is only through the name of Jesus Christ that
any can hope to find salvation from all these things.
Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye
crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.
This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner.
Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must
be saved. (Acts 4:10-12)
If anyone would known that Mary was to be looked to as a channel or means to salvation in any way it would have been
the Apostle Paul, yet he declares that it is not through the lifting up of Mary that men are saved but through the preaching
of Jesus Christ and His cross.
For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to
save them that believe.
For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom:
But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness;
But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God. (1 Corinthians
1:21-24)
The apparitions of Mary that have repeatedly appeared to Catholics have not pointed solely to Jesus. They have again and
again made devotion to Mary herself the key to all manner of blessing. If these apparitions are indeed true and men need
to look to Mary for such blessings, the Apostle Paul must have been an unenlightened man because he "determined not to
know any thing" except Jesus Christ.
For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified. (1 Corinthians 2:1)

The FOURTH Promise

The rosary will make virtue and good works flourish, and will obtain for souls the most abundant divine
mercies. It will draw the hearts of men from the love of the world and its vanities, and will lift them to the
desire of eternal things. Oh, that souls would sanctify themselves by this means.
Mary in this promise makes devotion to herself the channel of flourishing good works, abundant mercies, love for God,
deliverance from worldliness, and sanctification. Who though has God appointed as the means to these things? Indeed,
whoever is the conduit for such wonderful provisions would have to receive great glory. If Mary is the channel for all

these blessings of God she is obviously worthy of glory and honor in the church. Yet, scripture nowhere tells us that Mary
is worthy of such glory. Once again the Apostle Paul points to Jesus as the means to all these things and holds up Jesus as
the only one worthy of all glory.
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly
places in Christ (Ephesians 1:3)
But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and
redemption:
That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord. (1 Corinthians 1:30,31)
Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God. (Phillipians
1:11)
Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh
in us,
Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen. (Ephesians 3:20,21)
That the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you, and ye in him, according to the grace of our God and
the Lord Jesus Christ. (2 Thessalonians 1:12)
Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:
That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;
And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. (Philippians 2:9-11)
And I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne and the beasts and the elders: and the number
of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands;
Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength,
and honour, and glory, and blessing.
And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in
them, heard I saying, Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, be unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the
Lamb for ever and ever.
And the four beasts said, Amen. And the four and twenty elders fell down and worshipped him that liveth for ever and
ever. (Revelation 5:11-14)

The FIFTH Promise

Those who trust themselves to me through the Rosary will not perish.
Here is the absolutely astounding promise that those who place their trust in Mary will not perish. While scripture
emphatically declares that it is through faith in our Lord Jesus Christ that we will not perish but have eternal life, in this
promise Mary claims that it is by entrusting ourselves to her that we will have eternal life. Jesus again and again
pointed to Himself as the only way to eternal life and did not give even the slightest of hints anywhere in the gospel record
that His mother was to also be depended upon.
And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:
That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but
have everlasting life. (John 3:14-16)
And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. (John
10:28)
He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because
he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son.

And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.
These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal
life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. (1 John 5:10-13)
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. (Romans 6:23)

The SIXTH Promise

Whoever recites my Rosary devoutly reflecting on the mysteries, shall never be overwhelmed by misfortune.
He will not experience the anger of God nor will he perish by an unprovided death.
The sinner will be converted; the just will persevere in grace and merit eternal life.
The above promise makes Marian devotion the key to the favor of God. Reflecting on the life of Christ is indeed a
wonderful practice, but the recitation of the rosary includes repeating the "Hail Mary" over and over. In this prayer to
Mary one says, "Holy Mary, mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen." What is one
doing through such a prayer. Firstly, we are communicating to a deceased human being. This is a practice called
necromancy that was forbidden God's people in the Old testament (Deuteronomy 18:11). There is no indication that God
changed His mind about this practice in the New Testament. God alone hears prayer. "O thou that hearest prayer, unto
thee shall all flesh come." (Psalm 65:2) To pray to anyone but God Himself is to attribute to them qualities that only the
Deity possesses. Indeed, if Mary, or any other departed human being in heaven, could hear the prayers of millions of
human beings on the earth, they would have taken on an attribute of omniscience that belongs only to God Himself.
The hope held out in the Hail Mary causes people to come to Mary instead of coming to the Father through His Son.
Jesus told His disciples that in the day when He returned to heaven they were not to pray to Him, let alone Mary! They
were to go directly to the Father through Him, or in His name. If Jesus told us that He was not going to ferry prayers
made to Him to the Father, should we pray to Mary in hope she will do what Jesus wouldnt? Jesus taught us to pray to
Our Father who is in heaven, not to our Mother in heaven.
Should we believe that deliverance from Gods anger, assurance of His care, and the promise of His favor throughout our
life and in our death is intimately connected to our repeated petitions to Mary? There is not one place in all of scripture
where we are enjoined to go to Mary, so Mary can go to God for us. On the contrary, the Apostle Paul made it clear that
Jesus is the only mediator between God and man, and we can go to straight to the Fathers throne through Him.
Through the mediatorship of Jesus Christ alone the fullest promises are available to the faithful. It is not those who come
to God through Mary who receive such great promises of help and salvation. It is is those who come to Him through His
Son alone who have this assurance.
After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. (Matthew 6:9)
And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name,
he will give it you...
At that day ye shall ask in my name: and I say not unto you, that I will pray the Father for you:
For the Father himself loveth you, because ye have loved me, and have believed that I came out from God. (John
16:23,26,27)
For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus (1 Timothy 2:5)
But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was
established upon better promises. (Hebrews 8:6)
For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us. (2 Corinthians 1:20)
Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make
intercession for them. (Hebrews 7:25)

The SEVENTH Promise

Those truly devoted to my Rosary shall not die without the sacraments of the Church.
Such a promise exploits the fear of dying without the sacraments of the Catholic church. There is no place in scripture
where the faithful are taught that priestly absolution at the hour of their death is necessary for admittance into heaven.
There is forgiveness even at the hour of death for the repentant sinner who believes God's report concerning His Son.
Scripture teaches us that eternal life is something we HAVE entered into while in this mortal life, not something we are
going to get in the next life. Through being reconciled to God, through Jesus Christ, we enter into and live in God's
presence while on this earth. When we die we step over into the heavenly presence of the God we knew and walked with,
while on the earth. Without being born again and truly reconciled to God, christening, confession, communion or last rites,
at any time in our life, will avail us nothing.
These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal
life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. (1 John 5:13)
Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom
of God. (John 3:3)
For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature. (Galatians 6:15)

The EIGHTH Promise

Those who are faithful to recite my Rosary shall have during their life and at their death the light of God
and the plenitude of His graces and will share in the merits of the blessed.
To "share in the merits of the blessed" refers to the belief that the church has a storehouse or treasury of merits that the
believer can draw on when his account is low. In other words, there are those who have earned much favor with God
through their pious lives while on the earth, these saintly ones not only have enough merit to vouchsafe God's favor for
themselves, but they have merit to share with poor sinners. While we indeed can only stand in the favor and grace of God
by another, that other is none other than Jesus Christ. No one can stand in the favor of God through his or her own good
works. It is through Jesus Christ, and His good work alone, that any man enters the grace or favor of God. Nowhere in
scripture do we have any indication that the merits of any person, no matter how blessed or saintly, other than Christ, can
usher us into the presence of God or cause His face to shine upon us.
Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:
By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
(Romans 5:1,2)
Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus,
By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh (Hebrews 10:19,20)

The NINTH Promise

I will deliver promptly from purgatory souls devoted to my Rosary.
In this promise Mary tells her devotees that she will give them a quick release from the fires of purgatory. The
doctrine of purgatory is not taught in either the Old or New Testament. (Scant evidence for it is sought in the apocryphal
book of Second Maccabees.) The truly canonical scriptures nowhere teach that there is a place where God gets us "into
shape" before we can be admitted into His presence. The Apostle Paul speaks not only for himself but for all believers
when he declares that to be absent from the body is to be immediately present with the Lord.
Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord:
(For we walk by faith, not by sight:)
We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. (2 Corinthians
5:6-8)

The TENTH Promise

True children of my Rosary will enjoy great glory in heaven.
"Children of the rosary" is a reference to those who diligently pray the rosary on a daily basis. Whereas, the Apostle Paul
laid out for the believers the promise of glorious reward in heaven in proportion to their conformity with Christ and their
sharing in His sufferings, "Mary's" exhortation to obtain great glory is reduced to the recitation of prayers to her.
And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also
glorified together.
For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed
in us. (Romans 8:17,18)
But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christs sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad
also with exceeding joy. (1 Peter 4:13)

The ELEVENTH Promise

What you shall ask through my Rosary you shall obtain.
This amazing promise makes answers to prayer conditional on saying the rosary. If this is true, then Mary and praying to
her, should be essential to obtaining anything from God. For Mary to have been allowed by God to communicate to the
faithful that devotion to her and her rosary would cause us to obtain whatever we ask, could only mean that God has
exalted her to a position of the highest eminence. But the very thing that Mary claims for herself is that which God has
done for His Son Jesus. God has exalted Him and given Him a name above every name (including the name of Mary.) He
tells us to ask anything in His name (not through the rosary.)
While the authority of the Catholic church teaches that Mary is a co-mediatrix with Jesus, the Bible which has greater
authority, teaches that Jesus alone is the mediator by whom any man comes to God and has any hope of receiving
anything from God. The "Mary" held up by the Catholic church is not the Mary revealed in scripture or the Mary who
now humbly worships her Son in heaven. Contrary to what Catholics say, that Mary always points to her Son, the Catholic
Mary does NOT point to Christ, she points to herself and seeks to take away from Jesus the glory that belongs to Him
alone. The "Mary" of Catholicism is not pro-Christ, she is an antichrist and a deceiver.
And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. (John 14:13)
If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it. (John 14:13)
This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses.
Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he
hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear. (Acts 2:32,33)
The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew and hanged on a tree.
Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of
sins. (Acts 5:30,31)

The TWELTH Promise

To those who propagate my Rosary I promise aid in all their necessities.
This promise of complete help for our every need is made on condition that one becomes an evangelist for Mary. If we
go into all the world and propagate devotion to her, she makes the spectacular promise that whenever we need help
SHE will help us. In other words, if we are working for her, she will work for us. Yet in scripture we read that the
apostles went forth in the name of Jesus and preached Him. They were obviously ignorant of the commission of Mary
to propagate devotion toward her. They labored for Christ, not Mary. They preached Christ, not Mary. They considered
themselves servants and apostles of Christ, not servants and apostles of Mary. They never, ever, enjoined upon one person

love or devotion to Mary. Did they miss out on receiving her help in their necessities? Paul claimed that all his needs
were met through the "riches of glory that are in Christ Jesus." In that the apostles did not teach or preach that Mary
wanted devotion to her to be propagated, one can only wonder how, after so many centuries, she became more and more
insistent that her devotion be propagated. Why were those in the first century, who God gave the responsibility to leave us
an example, so ignorant of this Marian commission?
And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ. (Acts 5:42)
For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus sake. (2 Corinthians 4:5)
Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the
unsearchable riches of Christ (Ephesians 3:8)

The THIRTEENTH Promise

I have obtained from my Son that all the members of the Rosary Confraternity shall have as their
intercessors, in life and in death, the entire celestial court.
Not only does the "Mary" who heads the Rosary Confraternity seek to take the focus away from Jesus by pointing to
herself, in this promise she wants the faithful on earth to have their attention further diverted to a multitude of
intercessors in the celestial court. While Jesus supposedly has given her direction to promise this, it is He himself who
gets harder and harder to find in such a crowd!
Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee. (Psalm 73:25)

The FOURTEENTH Promise

Those who recite my Rosary faithfully are my beloved children, the brothers and sisters of Jesus Christ.
While faithful recitation of the rosary may make us "Mary's" beloved children, it will not make us children of God. This
can only happen through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and the new birth.
But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. (John 1:12,13)
For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. (Galatians 3:26)

The FIFTEENTH Promise

Devotion to my Rosary is a special sign of predestination.
Many keep up the practice of saying the rosary because of a deep insecurity that they have not done enough or have not
been good enough to get to heaven. If simply saying the rosary is a special sign of predestination they will practice
devotion to it their whole lives. The fear of God's wrath or displeasure cannot be assuaged by anything we do. We will not
be delivered from our fears by doing "more" religious things. Deliverance from the fear of God's wrath can only be ours
as we repent of our Christ dishonoring lives and realize that He alone is the way, the truth and the life.
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. (John 14:6)

Mary cannot save you. Your devotion or piety to her, the rosary or a religion's teachings cannot save you.
Jesus Christ has been appointed by the Father as the only Savior for mankind.
Put away hope in anyone or anything else, including your own self, your own goodness, or your own religious
works. Look alone to Christ, and you will know the fullness of God's blessing upon your life!
Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God:
because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
1 John 4:1
