INTRODUCTION

Delay: Good Morning Maam/Sir,

Each year, nursing schools
produce thousands of nurses in the Philippines. However, nursing unemployment is rising
because of the surplus in supply. Nurses in the country have the highest unemployment rate among
professions. Hospitals are full and nurses dont know where to go. Ironically, we have many
communities where Filipinos die without seeing healthcare professionals.
We have plenty of nurses, yet so many of them are unemplyed.

What is NDP?

The DOH has designed the NDP to improve local health systems that will support the countrys attainment of
universal healthcare. In this program the nurses are deployed in poor communities identified and will function as a
Nurse I.
To qualify the nurse should have a PRC license, willing to undergo recruitment and the last is the nurse should be
physically fit.
Requirements are:
-

Application letter addressed to the director of CHD

Updated resume
Photocopy of PRC license
Brgy license

Then the nurses will undergo examination. Once accepted, the nurses will be informed by facilities through a letter or
any, mode of communication for contract signing. After that, they will be assigned in RHUs, birthing homes, and brgy
health stations. For the contract, they will be hired as contract nurse for 6 months of service renewable with in
satisfactory performance maximum of 2 years.

D- Methods:
Method
Descriptive-correlational study utilizing mixed method of qualitative-quantitative
approach. The study population is the complete enumeration of (62) nurses under
Nurses Deployment Project in all municipalities in the First district of Capiz.
Purposive sampling was used to determine 7 participants in the Focus Group
Discussion to ensure proper representation. A three-part researcher made
questionnaire was used to determine the quantitative data and focus group
discussion was utilized to gather the qualitative data.
.
K- Results:
Most of the nurses were you and fresh graduates ages 22 to 26 years old. A little
less than two third 61.1 percent of the respondents belongs to 22-26 years old,
female 38.7 percent , single 77.4 percent, 80.6 percent were assigned in different
municipalities. As to category of preparedness most of the nurses had undergone
trainings prior to NDP deployment. There is a positive correlation between age, sex,
civil status, monthly income, trainings, area of assignment, preparedness and their
level of practice.. The result of the study established the fact that there is positive
correlation between preparedness and trainings. In general, nurses under NDP has
an outstanding level of practice. However, it was noted that some of the nurses
failed to formulate health plans if ever physician is not available. Their experiences,
their daily activities such as assessment, OPD admission, prenatal check up, giving
immunizations, conduct health teachings, and making reports. Positive and negative
feelings were experienced by them while working under NDP program.
k-Conclusion
Nurses under Nurses Deployment Project are mostly young, fresh and single which
coincide with the goal of he project to address the growing number of unemployed
fresh graduate nurses. Most of them are well prepared intellectually, physically and
emotionally before performing their functions. This could have been the result of
having freshly graduated from their BSN degree. Their practice showed outstanding
result which could be the reason of their young which allowed them to penetrate
the far flung areas in the and performed the basic nursing procedures in the
community. Their daily activities revealed the functions of a Public Nurse which is
also mandated from them. It is not surprising to note that nurses working the
community experience both positive and negative feelings.

j- Recommendations
It is highly recommended to the government agencies concerned such as the IPHO
and LGU to continue monitoring the performance of the nurses under the project as
this will greatly affect the delivery of health care services in the community.
Moreover, their incentives and allowance should be given in the most reasonable
time. Nurses should be given prophylaxis treatment before working under the
program to give them enough protection against the danger of contacting
communicable diseases

J-Implications
The study will serve as an information, background, and will provide a basis which
can help to design a strategy to address the issues and concerns faced by the
project. At the same time, the study will also serve as a foundation for researchminded individuals who might motivate to conduct a deeper study related to this
topic. The information that was gain in research about nurses preparedness and
level of practice will be focused on the nursing information for the nurses. Additional
research will provide ideas for improvement for nursing profession
