STRUCTURED CABLING DESIGN

Introduction

The structured cabling system proposed is for Utusan Malaysia. The cabling
comprises of UTP cabling, Labelling, Testing & Commissioning for LAN
Network.

Horizontal
Cabling System

UTP CAT 5e is proposed for this exercise.

These horizontal cables will converge to the equipment rack located at the
designated place and terminate to RJ45 connector before plug into the
switch/hub. The cable that use to perform this exercise is an international
approved standard UTP Cat 5e.
The horizontal cabling subsystem includes UTP Cat 5e Snap-in UTP
Connector modular jack, Cat 5e 24-Port UTP Patch Panel, Cat5e UTP
workstation cord and standard faceplate. These will form a subsystem.

SPECIFICATION
Assumption

An assumption is made that the number of points will reflect the design of
the cabling and this proposed design is based on the number of nodes given .'- in
the diagram.
An assumption is also made that the power is available for each workstation one
power point is required for each Equipment Rack.
The location of wiring closet should correspond to the longest possible UTP
nodes i.e. 90 meters.

Communications systems installed today must provide quality,

flexibility, performance and EMC performance not only for
current needs, but also for future requirements. That is where
compliance to standards is important.

Cabling
System

Compliance to the standards ensures the customer that the system

installed today will run all applications complying to the standard,
and which will in the future be designed to comply to it. But
standards should not be a restriction to try to do better, or to offer
an optimized system for specific customer's needs. In this way the
customer will benefit twofold.
Like a well-structured toolkit, Structure Cabling Systems
provides a range of standard solutions or architectures, with a
choice of flexible options which can be varied and mixed to meet
different requirements. With this it will help you to defme your
requirements and select the most appropriate solutions.
Cat 5e
Copper
Cable

Structure Cabling Systems are engineered solutions, which are

designed utilizing all of the current cabling technologies. These
include twisted pair cables, screened and unscreened, 100 and 120
Ohm impedance, in single, quad and shielded twisted pair
configuration with conductor diameters of 0.5 or 0.6mm. Optical
fiber is available in 50/125 and 62.5/125mm multimode versions
and 9/125mm singlemode versions.
Thanks to engineering and design improvements, all cables now
profit from enhanced performance and high ease of installation.
Structure Cabling Systems is therefore more than ever prepared
for the Gigabit era.

...

Giga performance for the Gigabit future For all cables

performance is specified up to 300 and 600 MHz, not in the first
place because specifications at these frequencies are important,
but they will imply an enhanced overall performance at the
frequencies of interest. .
Performance levels can be improved in order to obtain a wider
domain up to the intemationallevel. A standard mandates
minimum and not maximum performance levels .
All horizontal cables will be offered in two versions, that is with
0.5 and 0.6mm copper conductors. The wider the copper
conductors, the less the signals running through it, will be
hindered or attenuated. Therefore, the 0.6mm versions will offer
lower attenuation, while using 0.5mm conductors will reduce the
overall diameter of the cable, and will thus make the cable easier

t
o

handle.
The
customer

will have to consider these criteria to make his choice.

IDC contacts which can be terminated using either a 110 or LSA tool. The
connector is easy to install and requires minimal depth (35 mm). An
additional clip (optional) allows compatibility with third party outlets based
on the keystone form factor. The Snap-in connector shaould compatible with
all Snap-in structural hardware.

19" I HU UTP patch panel offers hi-density (24 port) rear connections.
Connectivity is based on a pre-mounted PCB using either 110 or LSA
contacts. The panel is equipped with a cable guide tie wrap support.

Cat 5e UTP patch cords are supplied in standard lengths of 1.5 and 3 m in
grey.

..

This modular 45x45 outlet can accommodate two Snap-in connectors. The
module is angled in order to protect the patchcord at the user side. The small
connector depth offers the ideal solution for cable trays and floor boxes where
depth is restricted .

The Coverplate is design to be used with 45 x 45 outlets simply by clicking

them it.

LABELING CONVENTION

PageS

".

Meslnlaga Bemad
Network services Unit

Workstation -Ute labelling convention employed on cables (at the faceplates) connected
labelling system to the hub to indicate the respective building connections.
The first segment of the segment denotes the building, and the following
segment of the label denotes the workstation number.

For example, DI-T3 is to indicate the workstation is the 3rd faceplate at Blok
D Tingkat I Blk Tutorial I faceplate number 3.
Note: The labelling will follow requirement stated by Dtusan Malaysia.

Patch Panels
Labelling
System

All the labelling of the patch panels would follow the labelling system used at
the faceplates. Therefore, whatever number written at the faceplate, the same
number would be used at the field of the patch panel corresponding to the
particular faceplate/cable.

FLUKE DSP-4300 cable test meter will use to test every UTP nodes and
backbone. This digital cable meter from FLUKE is designed to meet proposed
requirements of TIA level II accuracy for both the Channel and the Basic
Link. All instrument specifications are verified per ISO 9000 guidelines. That
means that the DSP-4300 can tell PASS or FAIL with a confidence factor of
as mush as 60 times greater than older, analog level I testers.
Only Fluke's patented Time Domain Crosstalk (TDX) Analyzer instantly
pinpoints NEXT faults such as bad connectors, poor workmanship, or
improper cabling and these will turn all failed or marginal links into fully
compliant ones.

FLUKE DSP-4300 cable test meter will use to test every fiber core.
