Thesis Statement (Central Idea):
Summarize your speech/outline in one sentence. You should clearly sum up
all of your main points. A declarative sentence.

INTRODUCTION

This could be a story/statement/rhetorical question/quotation that will grab your audience's
attention.

Reveal Topic
Reveal your topic to your audiencejust your topic, not a preview.

III.

Relevance Statement
Tell your audience how your topic is relevant / important to them. Provide brief background
statements on how the subject might affect them.

IV.

Preview of Main Points


Briefly reveal your topic and state what your main points will be. Your Preview is your
central idea/thesis statement.
