@ International Baccalaureate Organization' 2007
These past two years, I have aimed to be a creative, active and selfless student and member of
society. This has been accomplished by immersing myself in a multitude of activities, namely the
Movie Club, Hope Club, The ECHO, Science in Society, Photoshop Club, helper for the Indian
stall at the International Fair and cricket. I developed my ueative skills with the Movie Club, the
ECHO and Photoshop Club. I devoted most of my time towards The ECHO (school newspaper)
the Photoshop club. I joined the ECHO in a conscientious effort to further my joumalistic
ambitions and develop my writing skills. Similarly, I became a member of the Photoshop club in
an attempt to hone my artistic skills using digital media software. I was successful in both. I
became very interested in writing articles and became more familiar with the structure and
writing process. I was able to develop artistic skills and techniques in Adobe Photoshop CS3 that
helped me in creating technically superior pieces in IB Visual Arts Higher Level. I kept myself
active by playing cricket. Being an Indian, it comes as no surprise that I am an avid fan of cricket
and breathe, eat, drink and dream cricket. As I did not want to lose touch of my fondness for the
sport, I regularly played in cricket matches organized by equally passionate supporters of the
game from Asia and the Caribean. I developed my individual skills as well as my 'team player'
skills of communication, leadership, encouragement and dedication and had fun doing so. The
most grati$iing experiences however, calne from the service criteria. This came in the form of
the HOPE Club, Science in Society and as a cashier/chef for the Indian stall at our school's
annual International Fair. Being a member of the HOPE Club was particularly satisfying as I was
able to help orphans who had much less than me yet were so much more thankful for anl.thing
and everything that came their way. This not only encouraged me to try and help them as much
as I could, but in a way made me be more thankful for what I already have in my life and take for
granted. As a member of the Science in Society Club, I engaged in my recycling measures by
collecting plastic bottles in city-wide marathons and creating posters and raising awareness about
the consequences of not recycling amongst the high school society. In the process of doing so, I
not only taught others, but taught myself and promised myself that I would recycle just about
anything I could to make for a greener and cleaner environment, both for my own benefit and for
the benefit of those around me. The CAS experience as a whole was one that I will hold very
close to my heart as it taught me a lot about myself others and even the environment. It was of
paramount importance in both my mental (creativity and service) and physical (action)
development.
