It is fair to say that one may have been familiar with the idea of video games
in their youth and adolescent years. Revolutionary entertainment technology
such as the Gameboy, GameCube and game titles such as Mario and
Pokemon launched electronic entertainment company Nintendo into
incredible popularity.
Nintendos humble beginnings are traceable back to 1889 when Fusajiro
Yamauchi, a Japanese man, idealized and began manufacturing playing cards
in Kyoto. The idea quickly gained popularity and by 1902, had spread
throughout the world. Having achieved massive success, Mr. Yamauchi
formed a partnership under the name Yamauchi Nintendo & Co., which was
later a=`^-J7U1#54`>
ltered to Nintendo Playing Card Co. Ltd. in 1951 and finally Nintendo Co. Ltd
in 1963. The companys history of electronic system production commenced
in 1977 when it began to sell mass produced home television games
worldwide, called TV Game 15 and TV Game 6. In collaboration with
Mitsubishi Electric, Nintendos first prototype video game console was
designed in 1975, and eventually evolved into the likes of the Donkey Kong
coin-operated game and the revolutionary Nintendo Entertainment System of
1984. The company went on to develop the Nintendo 64 in 1996, the first 64bit console of its kind that offered a 3D animation experience in all its game.
The same year, the Gameboy handheld device was released and eventually
was replaced by the Gameboy Advance in 2001. After the complete
discontinuation of the Gameboy line by 2008, the product had sold almost
200 million units, making it the best-selling console of its time. As of more
recently, the Nintendo DS line was first introduced in 2004, and the family
friendly Wii console was released in 2007 both achieving substantial sales
volume and receiving significant updates since its introduction.
The $22.4 billion video game industry is ever changing and highly
competitive. Since the introduction of its electronic gaming consoles,
Nintendo has proven to be a powerful entity and has ultimately become a
household name, along with some of the gaming titles affiliated with it (such
as Mario, Pokemon and Zelda). Successful in targeting younger individuals
and families, the company reported operating revenue of $4.6 billion USD at
the end of its fiscal year dated March 31, 2015. However, a corporation
always seeks areas of improvement in order to gain more market share over

other competitive entities. The following report illustrates Nintendos current

position within the industry, through a thorough analyzation of aspects
including structure and competitive strategies.
