Theatre Tickets
The College regularly receives theatre ticket
offers. New offers are communicated to all staff
by email. The vouchers are available from the
Accommodation Office.
'Ride2Work'
This is a part of a Government initiative,
implemented by Evans Cycles whereby you
can save around 50% off the price of a new
bike. You can benefit by making savings on
income tax, VAT and National Insurance
contributions, saving you up to around 50% off
the shop floor price.
Child Care Vouchers Ravensbourne
Child Care Vouchers are exempt from National
Insurance Contributions and are tax free so
they can help you save money on your child

care costs. You can convert up to the value of
£55 per week into Child Care Vouchers; this
means you could save up to £1,195 per year.

Pensions
At the time of writing the current arrangement are
as follows;
For academic staff
Teachers Pension Scheme – key points
• Contributory, final salary scheme -
comprising an annual pension and a tax-free
lump sum
• Normal retirement age - 60, but it is possible
to:
• work beyond 60
• take retirement benefits before 60
• if you become permanently
incapacitated due to ill-health
or
• are aged 50 or over and the College
offers you the opportunity to retire
early
• Provides death and family benefits
• Contracted out of SERPS.
• Employees pay 6.4% of salary - College
contributes 14.1% - making a total
contribution of 20.5%
• Allows employees to make extra
contributions by ‘buying in’ past years,
paying AVCs and paying Free-Standing AVCs.
• Death Before Retirement – a maximum lump
sum may be paid equating to twice your
annual salary.

Bromley Local Government Pension Scheme –
key points
• Final pay scheme
• Contracted out of SERPS
• Normal retirement age – 65
• may retire earlier on the grounds of ill
health or with agreement of the College
once you have reached the age of 50
• Employee’s contribution - 6% of pensionable
pay
• College contributes 9.9% (independently
reviewed every three years by an actuary)
• At retirement you will be paid both a tax-free
lump sum equivalent to three times your
yearly pension, plus the pension itself.
• Scheme also allows employees to make
additional contributions by adding extra years
or paying AVCs.
• Death in Service benefit - a lump sum of twice
your final pay if you work full time, or your
actual final pay if you work part time.

Pension Surgeries are held in Bromley if anyone seeks
an individual consultation. They can be arranged on the
above telephone number.
Eye Sight Tests
Preliminary eyesight tests are carried out in the
College periodically and any resulting referrals to
an optician for an eyesight test are paid for.
Any employees who then require spectacles for
middle vision who use DSE for at least the
number of hours specified by our Health and
Safety Officer, will receive a contribution made
towards their spectacles.

ICAS is an independent counselling and
advisory service for university and college
employees - the provision of which is paid for
by the College. It is available to all staff 24
hours a day, 365 days a year.
It is a confidential service and can help deal
with both everyday situations and more
serious problems. A qualified counsellor
answers calls and teams of skilled specialists
provide advice on a range of issues, which
include:
• Financial – money management; debt;
mortgage arrears; negative equity; child
support
• Legal – consumer complaints; insurance
claims; neighbour disputes; motoring
offences; child custody; divorce law
• Relationships - family; work; partners
• Family care – childcare and eldercare;
education; harassment; dealing with your
boss; pressure
You, your partner or any family members living with
you are welcome to use this service.
Annual Leave
The annual leave entitlement for academic
staff is 30 days and for support staff 25 days.
In addition there are eight statutory Bank
Holidays and the College gives all employees
two extra statutory days, over the christmas
period.
