This latest project will implement ODOT RealTime between Washington County, central Portland and the Portland
Airport. The system is comprised of travel time, advisory speed and traveler information signs, plus traffic signal
management on local roads (transit priority and timing improvements for trucks and bicyclists). This expanded system will
improve road safety and help drivers make better informed decisions about their travel routes.
Construction activities for the project will include:
Signs Live
Major construction equipment used to complete these activities could include backhoes, drilling equipment, concrete
mixers, pumps and saws, cranes, haul trucks, jackhammers, loaders, and other supporting equipment.
Nighttime Noise
123 Northwest Flanders Street
Portland, OR 97209
RETURN SERVICE REQUESTED
Traffic volumes are too high on U.S. 26 and I-84 for lane closures during the day. The work requiring lane closures will
take place at night. ODOT is in the process of obtaining a noise permit from the City of Portland for the nighttime work.
ODOT is requesting up to 66 nights of work to be scheduled at various dates and locations from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.,
between August 31, 2016 and December 31, 2017.
ODOT is proposing to mitigate noise impacts by restricting high noise activities such as hoe ram and jackhammer work
to no later than 10 p.m. Other low noise activities such as excavation, concrete placement and boom truck removal and
replacement of sign structures and signs could continue between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m.
Prior to construction, notification will be distributed to residents in the project area. This notification will include a noise
hotline number to help resolve any noise-related concerns or complaints 24-hours a day.

Travel times are displayed on the electronic sign unless a Traveler Information message
is required. Travel time signs display estimated travel times to key destinations, so that
drivers can plan their arrival time or consider taking an alternate route.
Traveler information signs alert drivers about crashes, congestion, road conditions,
closures and other traffic-related information, giving drivers the ability to make travel
decisions in real time.
