SYSTEM NAME:
HT/LT Switchgear charging.
SYSTEM DESCRIPTION:
There are eight HT panel. Four for unit-1 and four for unit-2.OCA, OCB, OCC, OCD and
1CA, 1CB, 2CA,2CB.Working voltage for HT switchgear is 6.6 KV. Station board Feed by ST
OCA, OCB for UNIT-1 OCC, OCD for UNIT-2 . Unit board Feed by UAT, 1CA ,1CB for UNIT1, 2CA, 2CB for UNIT -2. Siemens made 8BK80 with 3AK VCB 2000A for station & unit I/c &
Tie, 1250A for motor ,trafo, o/g etc feeder. In LT SWITCHGEAR working voltage is 415 Type
of module in LT SWITCHGEAR are ACB module DOL module SFU and MCCB.

The purpose of making this Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) is to provide
standard instructions in a sequential manner for charging of HT/LT switchgear.

SCOPE:
It includes all activities for charging of HT/LT SWTCHGEAR and associated outgoing
feeders.

RESPONSIBILITY:
First Line Responsibility:
Shift In Charge/Unit In charge - Will instruct Unit In charge/DCS Engineer for charging
of HT/LT switchgear
Second Line Responsibility:
DCS Engineer Will inform Field Operators to prepare for charging of HT/LT switchgear
Third Line Responsibility:
Area Field Operators (Elect) - Will prepare & make ready for system charging and give
clearance to DCS Engineer for charging of switchgear

SWITCHGEAR CHARGING OPERATION:

Pre-Requisites :
Activity Description
Permission for charging of HT/LT switchgear.

No PTW is pending on INCOMER ,TIE, and bus couplers of

all boards including Mech, Elect, C&I.
ST and UAT are charged and voltage and frequency is
appropriate.

Before charging INCOMER put BUS PT in service.

Turn on A.C,D.C MCB from BUS PT module

Ensure control supply(D.C) MCB is OFF of concern

INCOMER.

Put LOCAL/ REMOTE selector switch in LOCAL position of

INCOMER

Discharge the spring by inserting the rod sequentially in I and

0 in TEST position.

Rack in the breaker of incomer and make sure that it is proper

in service condition

Turn on A.C, D.C and line PT MCB of incomer and ensure that
all indications (spring charge,TCS healthy, breaker in service
etc)are healthy.
supply to all relay is healthy and all FLAGs are RESET

Put LOCAL/ REMOTE selector switch in REMOTE position

select the DEAD BUS mode from DCS. give close command
to INCOMER from DCS and charge OCA and OCB from ST-1
After charging ensures SPRING CHARGED indication has
come and checks the voltage in BUS PT of all three phase.

Charge 1CA, 1CB from UAT-1.

Similarly charge OCC,OCD from ST-2 and 2CA,2CB from

UAT-2

After charging the HT panels charge the outgoing feeder

(transformers , oil and dry type ,switchgear) similarly. Before
charging ensure that respective L/T incomer is in SERVICE
mode ,its D.C supply is on and breaker is in OFF condition.

Ensure transformer is completely BOX UP and at suitable TAP

position and BUS COUPLER of respective MCC is in OFF
condition.
Select the INCOMER of LT switchgear in DEAD bus charge
the incomer from DCS. Charge other incomer similarly.

After charging both INCOMERS check the voltage in both

sections of BUS PT.

Put the bus coupler in service mode with DC supply on and

selector switch in remote.

Checks by DCS Engineer in DCS :

All voltage and current transducers are healthy and showing same value as in
switchgear.
All incomers of LT should be selected in DEAD BUS and BUS
couplers in AUTO mode
A.C, D.C supply is available for BTS.
