Game Commentary
Submitted by Doug Klein: Pine Creek will go into Spring Break unblemished after a 3-2 road win over Horizon, pushing their early season
record to 3-0-0. The Eagles dominated first half play with possession and an 8-2 shot advantage, tallying a lone goal in the 19th minute when
senior midfielder, Kelsie Schmitz, found attacker Ashley Greco with a 20 yard thru ball; Greco had a head of steam as she collected the ball and
powered in alone on Hawk Junior Goalkeeper, Kaylee Greening.

The hosts made half time adjustments and came out challenging the Pine Creek possession style; despite the effort, the Eagles went up by two goals
in the 48th minute as sophomore midfielder, McKenzie Oliver, popped a ball over the backline onto the foot of Senior attacker, Carolyn Simon,
who drilled a ball into the net from 15 yards out; the Hawks responded just 5 minutes later to draw back within one. As Horizon continued to
mount pressure, the Eagles went back up by two as Oliver secured an errant ball 20 yards out and launched a high shot to the far post; Freshman
Goalkeeper, Maranda Gussman, got a hand on the shot while back peddling, but the ball rolled off her finger tips, the post and in. Just 90 seconds
later the Hawks answered the call again on a scramble in front of Eagle netminder, Carmen McDermott (2GA, 3 Sv, 80 min), where junior forward,
Alyssa Miller, waited patiently in front of the net to put home the shot from 6 yds out.

The final seven minutes saw end-to-end counter attacks as the Eagle backline, anchored by sophomore all-league center-back, Shianne Smelker,
cleared repeated attempts out of the area including the final Hawk push that resulted in a corner kick with 20 seconds remaining that Smelker
cleared harmlessly out of bounds to secure the win.

Pine Creek opens defense of their Colordao Springs Metro League title on Wednesday, March 31 when they travel to Garry Berry Stadium to face
Coronado.
