The Silas Lake Park reopenstodayafter beingclosed forsixmonths. Thepark was

closed becausemud and rockslides destroyed partof Cambridge Road,theonlyaccess
intothepark. They had toremovetonsof bouldersand rocks,and thenrebuild abridge
and reconstructalmostamileof highway.
The lake hastworamps forboaters,a full-servicerestaurant,asnack bar,asmalltackle
store,and a boatrental facility. Aswith all countyparks,noalcohol issold orpermitted.
Morethan 100 picnictables haveprotectiveroofsand big barbecuepits. Thereare
publicrestroomswith freeshower facilities, lotsof trash cans,and hikingtrails for
nature lovers. Thewestsideof thepark includesasoftball field,asoccer field,andtwo
volleyball courts. Horseshoesand kite-flyingaretwootherpopularactivities. Inthe
summer,a designated swimmingarea hasa lifeguard ondutyseven daysaweek.
Theentry fee is $10 pervehicleand$10 per boat. Reservationsarenotaccepted. The
parking lot holdsabout500vehicles; if it is full,noadditional vehiclesareallowed to
enter. Latecomerseither leaveorwait in line forsomeoneto leavetheparkinglot. Some
weekendstherearethree dozenvehicleswaiting in lineoutsidethegate. Becauseof
manyrequests,park officialssoonmightstartpermittingcamperstostayovernighton
weekends.
Thepark isopen from dawnto 10p.m. duringthesummer. Thereareabout 2,000
visitorsevery day duringthesummer. Theycome hereto fish,swim,water-ski,jet-ski,
picnic,orsimplycommunewith Mother Nature. People lovethisplace.

turtlesand doves. "They'reeasyto feed and care for,and both animals livea longtime,"
said Bob.

to 9:00 p.m. Wednesdaysthrough Saturdays. "We
think thoseare hoursthatourcustomerswill find veryconvenient. Plus,thethree days
off givesusachancetogo intothewoodsand find morecritters. Wenever buyour
animals;
wealwaystrytocollectthem fromthewild. Thatwaywecanpasson huge
savingstoourcustomers. And,ofcourse, byremovingtheseanimals fromtheirnatural
habitat,weprotectthem frombeing devoured bytheirnatural enemies. Soour
customersare happy,ouranimalsare happy,and we're happy. It'sawin-win forall of
