E6805 Course Project and Field Experience

Course Project: The Technology Integration Initiative

Overview / Scenario
Your project for this course is to integrate technology throughout a curriculum unit.
This unit can be an entire curriculum or the curriculum for one subject. The project
begins in Module 1. The final submission is due in Module 7. You are expected to
form groups of three to four students; you will complete the project in your group. To
help you form a group and work together, use the following Group Work guidelines:

"Group Work.doc"

Your facilitator may want to periodically check on the progress of your team. It would
be a good idea to schedule weekly/periodical appointments with the facilitator and
update him/her about the progress of your group.

Project Tasks

To help you successfully complete the final project, it has been broken down into
small doable tasks that can be accomplished weekly. This will ensure that the project
work is spread across weeks and you get time to complete other activities like
reading and assignments. Here is a suggested breakdown of the tasks.

• Module 1: Identify a unit of curriculum and its components.

• Module 2: Evaluate the identified unit of curriculum with regard to the possibility
of integrating technology.

• Module 3: Identify the strategies and tools for integrating technology into the
curriculum unit. Consider the following to help you complete the above task:

o Given your chosen curriculum unit,

o What strategies will you use to integrate technology in this curriculum


unit?

o What tools will you use for technology integration in this curriculum
unit?

• Module 4: Provide rationale for the strategies and tools that you chose in Module
3.

• Module 5: Create a plan for integrating technology into the curriculum; identify
areas in their chosen curriculum where integrating technology will improve it.
Your plan should include answers to the following:

o What areas of the curriculum will you integrate technology in?

o How do you plan to integrate technology into your chosen curriculum


unit?

o How will the teacher implement the new curriculum?

o What are the areas of your chosen curriculum unit that will improve
after technology integration?

o How will technology integration improve your chosen curriculum unit?

• Module 6: Create a blueprint of the type of technology that can be integrated into
the curriculum unit.

• Module 7: Submit the improvised curriculum after the technology integration.

By Day 3, post the improvised curriculum unit with technology integration completed
to the Discussion Area. Use the following file naming convention:

LastnameFirstInitial_M7_A2.doc.
For example, if your name is John Smith, your document will be named
SmithJ_M7_A2.doc.

Format
Your critique paper should be double-spaced, in 12 pt. font in Microsoft Word 2000
or higher. Remember to follow APA 5th edition style.

Grading Criteria: Project Maximum Points


Submitted the group work checklist. 4

Identified at least four the components of the 16
chosen unit of curriculum.
Evaluated the curriculum with respect to the 20
technology already used in the unit of curriculum.
Identified at least five areas in the curriculum unit 20
where technology integration is possible.

Identified at least five tools for integrating 20
technology into the curriculum unit.
Provided rationale for choosing those particular 20
strategies and tools.

Individually critique the curriculum of any other group.
Use the following critique guidelines:

• Summarize the curriculum you are critiquing in terms of curriculum focus,


topic(s), learner group, and goals.
• Describe how learning theory, learning styles, teaching styles, and higher
level learning behaviors are incorporated in the curriculum.
• Assess the effectiveness of technological integration in the curriculum.
• Summarize the methods used in the curriculum plan to integrate technology
into the classroom.
• Evaluate the comprehensiveness and utility of the curriculum plan for teachers
in general.

By Day 3, post your critique paper to the Discussion Area. Use the following file

Field Experience

Overview

One of the major assignments you will complete as part of this course is the Field
Experience assignment, which gives you the opportunity to develop a plan for using
technology to improve the administrative and/or instructional efficiency and
effectiveness of a school.

This assignment begins in Module 1 and is due in Module 5.

Suggested Tasks

• Module 1: Identify a school that you would like to visit. Schedule an


appointment with the administrator/principle and inform them of the purpose of
your visit.

• Module 2: During your visit gather information about:

o The technology currently used by the school to ensure administrative


efficiency and effectiveness

o The people/department who use the technology and the purpose for
which the technology is used

o The type of technology used by the school to ensure instructional


efficiency and effectiveness

o The people/department who use the technology and the purpose for
which the technology is used

• Module 3: Analyze if technology is being utilized effectively and efficiently in


the administrative/instructional process. Specifically, gather information about
the following:

o The tasks in the administrative process for which technology is utilized

o The tasks in the instructional process for which technology is utilized

o The effectiveness of the technology in areas of administrative and


instructional process

o The efficiency of the technology being utilized

• Module 4: Identify issues in the technology utilization process of this school


from an administrative perspective. Consider the following:

o What are the issues in the selection of technology?

o What are the issues in the implementation of technology?

o What are the issues with the effectiveness of the technology?

• Module 5: Develop an administrative plan for using technology to improve


administrative and/or instructional efficiency and effectiveness. Your
administrative plan should include answers to the following:

o What technology do you plan to use?

o How do plan to implement the technology to improve the administrative


and/or instructional efficiency and effectiveness?

o How will the technology improve the administrative and/or instructional


efficiency and effectiveness?

o How long will the implementation process take?

o Who will be involved in the technology implementation process?

Your Field Experience paper is due in Module 5.

By Day 3, post your field experience paper to the M5: A2 Dropbox. Use the
following file naming convention:
