Comman
d line
interface

Windows
systems

Carries out
instructions
that it
receives as
text. With
CLI the
command
line appears
in a small
window on
screen and
a prompt
indicating
that the
computer is
waiting to
receive an
instruction
from the
user.
Enables
rectangular
areas in the
screen to
act as
interfaces
with
different
applications
or
programmes
. Windows
can be:
minimised,
maximised,
resized,
moved and
restored
down.

-Much
faster to
use than
GUIs for a
trained
professional
.
-Does not
require that
much RAM
memory to
run.
-Can be
used with
cheaper
hardware.
-Does not
require
Windows to
run
-Very
flexible
which is
good when
working
with limitedspaced
screens
-You can
have
multiple
windows
opened at
the same
time which
means
different
applications
and that
you can
exchange
information
between
them

-Might be hard
and confusing
for a beginner
-A command
typed in
wrongly can
ruin the entire
operation.
-You have to
learn and
memorize the
hundreds of
different
commands
precisely.

-Take up quite
some space in
a screen.
-Can be
impractical
when the user
wants to use
only one
application.
-Use a lot of
processing
space and
RAM memory.
