Introduction to Subject:
Performance management is a continuous process of identifying, measuring and developing the
performance of individuals and teams. It is a systematic process where the organization involves
its employees in improving organizational effectiveness by focusing them on achieving the
organizations mission and strategic goals. The performance management system is a tool to
implement strategy. It is a useful tool to communicate organizational goals and objectives,
reinforce individual accountability for meeting those goals, track individual and organizational
performance results.

Course Objectives:
The main objective of the course is to develop an understanding of how to plan and implement
Performance Management System (PMS). It also focuses on the basic skills of designing and
developing the performance management model for individual and organizational effectiveness.

Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course the student will be able to:

Understand the role of Performance Management and how its potential can be harnessed
to deliver significant bottom line benefits to the organization

Describe the key elements of Performance Management System

Outline techniques and tools that can be utilized to enhance performance

Understand the issues which must be addressed to introduce a performance management


system

Understand how to conduct performance appraisals effectively

Instructions to students:
1. Attending every class is important and absenteeism affects class participation score. If
any student misses class, it is responsibility of the student to find out the topic covered
and assignments if any were announced in the respective class.
2. Class participation marks are inclusive of the attendance and the participation in the class.
3. Students have to submit the assignments on or before the date of submission, otherwise
not considered for evaluation.
4. Presentation marks will be allotted for individual presentations. The students are expected
to select a topic and present it as at their allotted time.
