Richard de Curci witnessed a charter from King William I in 1069 confirming the donations of Roger de
Montgomery to the abbey of St. Martin, Troarn. He also witnessed a charter from William the Conqueror
confirming a donation to the abbey of Marmoutier and another dated 1077 from King William granding
property to the abbey of St. Etienne de Caen and another in the same year in which King William gave a
wine cellar in Rouen to the monks of Caen St. Etienne.(1) Richard de Courci donated property to the
monks at Marmoutier in Tours by a charter dated c.1078.(2) Richard witnessed another charter from King
William dated 14 July 1080 confirming the foundation of the abbey of Lessay.(3) Ricardus de Corceio
witnessed a charted in 1089 from Robert "Curt hose", Duke of Normandy confirming the restoration of the

monastery of St. Vigor near Bayeux.(4) Richard de Curci also witnessed a charter from 1090 in which King
William II issued instructions to Stow Abbey.(5)

William was Lord of Stogursey, Somerset and a steward to Henry I. He donated Newham to the Abingdon
monastery which was confirmed by King Henry I.(1)

CURCY
The Red Book of the Exchequer from 1166 records the knights fees held by "Willelmi de Curcy dapiferi" in
Somerset.(1) He witnessed a charter where Henry II confirmed concessions made to Bayeux Abbey.(2) The
Red Book also records enfeoffments in Normandy for 1172 for "Willelmus de Curseio" with five knights
and 33 knights in his own service.(3)

1. WILLIAM de CURCI
Roger de Reigny, his wife Mabilla and their sone William, Baldwin and Richard made a gift to Plymton
Priory which was confirmed by William de Curci. Maud was the heiress of the Honour of Okehampton and
was related to Adeliz, daughter of Baldwin the Sheriff who was also a generous benefactor to Plymton
Priory until her death in 1142.
