received recognition. Rainbow is the
first-of-its-kind BRTS in Maharashtra.

Chinchwad Municipal Corporation is sitting on a proposal to hand over three pieces

The PMPML has already
started two depots at Bhekrainagar, and Shewalwadi on Pune-Solapur Road. A third depot is likely to start at Balewadi this month, officials said.

branch of the Pune police on
Wednesday arrested a criminal
on police records for trying to
extort Rs 25 lakh from a hotel
owner of Hinjewadi on November 5.
Deepak Shrirang Sonawane
(29) of Tathawade, who was posing as the driver of sub-inspector of the crime branch Nitin
Khamgal, called up Namdeo
Jambhulkar (50) expressing interest to start a pub at the latters
hotel. Sonawane asked Jambhulkar to come to Nere village in
Mulshi taluka for further discussions, said Vijaysinh Gaikwad, senior inspector of the anti-organized crime cell.
When Jambhulkar reached
Nere village, Sonawane threatened him with a gun and demanded Rs 25 lakh. Jambhulkar somehow managed to escape and
lodged the complaint four days
ago, he added.
While conducting investigations, the crime branch team,
which interestingly comprised
Khamgal, got a tip-off that Sonawane was involved in the crime.
Accordingly, we laid a trap and
nabbed him, Gaikwad said.

Pimpri Chinchwad: The

Maharashtra State Electricity
Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has booked six
persons of a heat treatment
plant in Bhosari for alleged
power theft of Rs 15.68 lakh.
A statement issued by the
MSEDCL stated that this is the
fourth incident in the area
where the power theft was being conducted using a remote
control. The plant has been
found indulging in theft of 1.19
lakh units of power, which
comes to Rs 15.68 lakh, the
statement added.
It stated that the plant has
industrial power connection.
The theft was revealed when
the power company conducted
an inspection of the plant recently.
The company used modern technology tools and
found that resin cast moulded
CT (current transformer) was
tampered with to steal power.
It was also found that a remote
control was being used to stop
power usage registration even
when the power was being
consumed, the statement
added.

The traffic police have placed temporary barricades on the busy highway stretch between Khadki and
Bopodi to check congestion. Concerns about pedestrians safety have been raised time and again due to

Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has appointed a consultant for constructing a bridge on Mula river to
connect Bopkhel and Khadki.
The civic engineering department approved a proposal at
the standing committee meeting on Tuesday.
As per high court orders,
the College of Military Engineering(CME) closed the 2.5
kilometer linking Bopkhel to
Pune-Mumbai highway at
Dapodi in May this year. The
CME however constructed a
temporary bridge on Mula river to provide temporary link
from Bopkhel to Khadki.
In October, CME said that
it had decided to dismantle
the bridge. The bridge is a
critical training resource
and would be needed frequently for training purposes,
the CME stated in a release issued through the defence
public relations officer on
Monday. Maintenance of
the bridge is also a considerable drain on manpower
and, will soon need to be delaunched, the release added.
CME has however not dismantled the bridge.

Kate said that the permanent bridge should be constructed at the earliest for residents in Bopkhel to reach
Khadki. The local residents
had to travel through slushy

the tarred road in Khadki.
Many two-wheelers had skidded and it resulted in minor
injuries. The same situation
should not prevail in the next
monsoon, he said.

Rajan Patil, joint city engineer, PCMC said, The consultant will prepare the detailed estimated cost of the bridge project. He has to submit
his report within a month as
the defence minister has directed PCMC to start the process to invite bids for selecting the contractor to construct the permanent bridge.
The bridge will have a total
width of 9 meter comprising
two lanes of 3.5 meter width
for vehicular traffic and one
meter wide footpath on both
sides. All types of small and
heavy vehicles will be able to
ply on the bridge.
Bopkhel village with a population of 20,000 is surrounded by defence land belonging to CME on three sides and
Mula river on the other side.
The village was linked to Pune-Mumbai highway at Dapodi by a 2.5 km long road that
passes through defence land.
