PRESENTATION OF THE FACTS SURROUNDING THE CASE

The story is about change that takes place in a Maze where four amusing characters look for
cheese. The four characters are Sniff, Scurry, Hem and Haw. Sniff and Scurry are mice while
another two characters are little human being. Every day, those four characters are searching for
a cheese.
One day, both of them find a cheese at Station C, so they started to go to the Station C every
morning to eat the cheese. They repeat the same routine every day. However, one morning Sniff
and Scurry arrived at Cheese Station C and discovered that there is no cheese. But since they
notice the cheese is getting smaller every day, so they have prepared and know what to do.
Later on the same day, Hem and Haw at Cheese Station C. The day before, they are did not
care about the changes of the cheese that getting smaller, so they granted that their cheese would
be there. On the day, there is no more cheese at Cheese Station C. Cheese was important to them,
so Hem and Haw keep looking the cheese at Cheese Station C on the next morning to find out
whether the cheese is really gone.
While Hem and Haw trying to decide what to do, both mice were already on their way to find
another cheese at another Cheese Station. Finally the mice find the new Cheese Station which
full with cheese; it is Cheese Station N. Meantime, Hem and Haw is suffering because there is no
more cheese at Cheese Station C. They afraid they will lost on their way while trying get through
the maze to find new cheese.
Finally, Haw realized what he did is wrong and started to think and try to find cheese at
another place. Haw also realized that he had been held captive by its own fear. By that time, Haw
had let go of the past and was adapting to the present. Then, Haw continued on through the maze
with greater strength and speed. Finally, Haw finds the new cheese at Cheese Station N.
Sniff and Scurry, which arrived earlier at Cheese Station N welcomed Haw with a nod his
head, while Scurry waved his paw. Haw is now enjoying his new cheese without Hem.

2. IDENTIFICATION OF THE KEY ISSUES

1) Cheese is Gone
The little people had come to view Cheese Station C as their home. They bragged about
it, they were outraged, shocked, scared, and befuddled when Cheese disappeared. Hem
and Haw felt the situation was unfair. It was their cheese, and now it was gone. They
remained in Cheese at Station C hoping that the cheese would return and wondering
where it had gone.
2) Resistance to Change
Haw and Hem decided to waiting for Cheese to return back and they were getting weaker.
One day, Haw thinks it wasnt working, and so he moved into the maze looking for new
Cheese. Hem was hemmed in by his old ideas, and do not if he ever left Cheese Station
C. He may have starved, as the longer he stayed in the Cheese less station, the weaker he
would become.
3) Not try to find another cheese station.
Those little people Hem and Haw became comfortable and didnt notice the change. Each
day the stock of cheese was getting smaller and smaller, until there was no cheese left.
They feel fear and lazy to out from Station C. After few days Haw became aware that his
own fear held him captive and decides to go into the Maze in search for new cheese. But
Haw not tries to find another cheese station and suffer in the same maze.

4) Very arrogant
They each found their own kind of cheese one day at the end of one of the corridors in
Cheese Station C. Hem and Haw followed the same routine for a while, but later on, they
awoke a little later each day, dressed slower, and walked to Station C, always assuming
2

there would be cheese waiting for them. Later, this over confidence turned into
arrogance. They were also dont want to come out from the comfort zone until they were
surprised to find there was no more cheese in Station C.
5) Over thinking.
The little people fears that if they move to another maze or places, it will lead to
something worse. Haw had believed that there may not be any cheese in the maze, or he
may not find it. Such fearful beliefs were immobilizing and killing him.
Besides, Hem and Haw think that it will lead of death because of hunger if they cannot
find the Cheese or other food.

3. LISTING OF ALTERNATIVE COURSES OF ACTION THAT COULD BE TAKEN

1. Find the new cheese

-accept the situation
2. Motivate each other to find new station
-Find alternatives food in new station
3. Take precaution action
-train to find another food
3

4. Get out from the maze

-if can find the way to out
5. Can follow other mice
-Need to find food. Fighting among others to take/find the food.

4. EVALUATION OF ALTERNATIVE COURSES OF ACTION

1. Find the new cheese

Pro: When the little people take this action, probably they can get a new and a variety of
cheese to survive for their life as usual.
Cons: There are some bad things will happen if they cant effort to find the new cheese.
Either they do not get any cheese or they will die because of the hunger.
2. Find alternatives food
Pro: The little people can try to get other types of food other than cheese like bread, rice
and fruits. Therefore, they can get energy to try finding their new cheese to fulfill their
needs.
Cons: In the maze, there is no other food that they can get and it is also similar to find the
new cheese. Because, the space is very limited in the maze and its hard to find other
sources of food.
3. Take precaution action
4

Pro: When the little people take this action, their journey will be safely. They can think
wisely when something bad happens to them. Furthermore, they can get arriving to the
place of the new cheese safely.
Cons: When they take too much precaution action, they will be afraid to move on from
the Station C. Some more they will get confuse with too much of precautionary plans. So
that, they cannot find the new cheese or other foods. They should have confident in their
decision before out from the maze.

4. Get out from the maze

Pro: When they make a decision to get out from the maze, probably they can find the way
out. Therefore, they will not waste their time to find the new cheese and can find many
food outside the maze.
Cons: This action can make they lost in the maze. The space of maze is very limited and
they do not familiar with that maze. Finally, they can be suffered because they cannot get
any sources of food to survive for their life.

5. Try to follow the mice

Pro: When the little people try to follow the mice, they will get another station which is
Station N that has a lot of cheeses. They can live together with the mice happily to enjoy
eating that delicious cheese.
Cons: When they follow the mice and find the cheese together, they might be fight
between each other in the place that have a lot of cheese.

5. RECOMMENDATION OF THE BEST COURSE OF ACTION

After my group overview the whole story, we together made up our minds to highly
recommend that, both of them, Hem and Haw need to work together in order to keep survive,
meaning that to find the cheese or other alternative foods. They need to know their own
advantage or ability like the Sniff and Scurry (mice) have very instincts. While the other two
little people which is Hem and Haw, have a very good complex brain. Hem and Haw became
comfortable and didnt notice the change. Each day the stock of cheese was getting smaller and
smaller, until there was no cheese left. Sniff and scurry noticed the decline due to their simple
but effective daily routine and simply moved on searching the maze for new cheese. Hem and
Haw however were unprepared and Hem shouted Who moved my cheese? . Because cheese is
important to the little people they spent long time thinking, analyzing and trying to decide what
to do. However the result was looking around cheese less station C.
Therefore, our group suggests that Haw and Hem should follow like Sniff and Scurry to
find a cheese by using their very good instinct which Hem and Haw do not have. Finally, Haw
understands the need for change, and although afraid, can be led to appreciate and welcome
change and champion this change for others. By combination of good instinct and good complex
brain, we may ensure they may easily find the way to out of their problem and find the cheese.
So, to conclude, change is always around, but our responses to change can be reflected upon.
How you see the change is the point at which you can make the greatest difference because it
will affect how you respond to it and what you get as a result, which affects how you see the

change and respond. So we must anticipate change, adapt to change quickly, enjoy change and be
ready to change quickly, again and again.

6. LESSON LEARNED FROM THE STORY

1. Changes in life will cause changes in future.

In real life, we have to make changes of decision in order to change our future. Based on the
novel, the two little people refuse to make changes by keep waiting for the cheese at Cheese
Station C even though there is no more cheese at the station.
2. Dare to face the risk.
To find a new opportunity, someone have to ready to bare the risk. The situation is shown by
Haw whereby he is decide to find a new Cheese Station even he knows the risk of lost along the
way to find the cheese.
3. People need imagination and vision as motivation.
Imagination and vision will lead someone to work hard to achieve their target in life. For
example, if someone dreamt of having a supercar, the person will work hard and try to find way
to have the car. Based on the novel, Haw is imaging that he is enjoying as many cheese that he
would like to eat. After he imaging that, he is started to find the new cheese.
4. We need to always be prepared for changes in our lives towards achieving our goals.
Change is normal. Thats how we grow and evolve as humans. Ultimately, the way we react to
these changes will determine our success in life. Are we going to be like the mice, Sniff and
7

Scurry who just move on and look for new cheese? Or are we going to be like Hem? Stuck in
denial? Not able to move on in the maze to look for new cheese? Alternatively, are we going to
be like Haw? Scared at first, but builds up the courage to move from the safe harbors of the
known to move on in the maze to look for new cheese? Whatever happens, we must be prepared
to overcome the problem.
