To make the mechanism clear and to show the importance of this kind of technical support, you can see below
the visualization of a normal editor program: pages and pages of HEX/DEC information.

Even showing the same information in a 2-D graph, the situation appears a little complicated:
With most programs you have to interpret, decode and convert this information; whereas our "SETTING
FILES" available for RACE STANDARD and RACE PLUS allow the tuner to be immediately operative on
the significant datasets identified as engine working map list.
The tuner just selects Manufacturer, Model and Engine Type to be in the position to see all the software
versions available for a specific model to tune (as example: Audi -> TT 2006 -> 2.0 16V TFSI engine).
The manufacturers usually release several software versions for each vehicle, as a consequence of their
technical & commercial needs. These software versions are analyzed by our R & D department, then a specific
SETTING FILE is released for each software version to support our tuners in the optimization of the
relevant engine working datasets.
The proper setting file to use can be easily identified thanks to the hardware and software numbers shown:

Please note that a SETTING FILE is NOT a modified file: it can be imagined as a DECODING MASK
with DRIVERS interpreting the binary/hex logic of the original data set. These parameters are decoded and
converted into real maps (injection, boost, etc ) allowing simple technical evaluations for tuning purposes.
A normal menu page shows for every vehicle the list of maps available: injection, ignition, boost, rev limiter,
correction maps, etc..
The list of maps allows the choice of the exact parameters to work on.
The map, ignition timing (spark advance at part load) in this example, can be visualized in 3 different ways:
numeric table (Cartesian diagram), 2-D and 3-D charts.
The numeric map (Cartesian diagram) always displays the parameters to tune according RPM (revs per
minute) and LOAD as axes.

The 3-D charts is particularly useful to examine the map datasets in order to find imperfections, irregular
configurations of the curve, etc .
The modification is easily performed: the tuner can select a specific cell or a wider area, and the parameters
can be increased or decreased. The variation in the numeric table can be expressed as a percentage (e.g.
+10%) or per absolute values (e.g. +0,50, +10, +100 ).

The modification can be set also on the 2D (by dragging up or down one or more points of the curve, that
once modified change colour becoming red) and the 3D charts. The variation performed in this way are
automatically reported in the numeric table.
On the 3D charts, the new calibration is achieved after selecting a cell or an area; also in this case, the tuner
can choose variations in percentage or absolute values.

Problems to identify the RPM limiter? Not with RACE, as you just need to input the new limit
IMPORTANT NOTE:
as RACE is supplied with two RAM memories, the tuner can compare different files (e.g. the original software
with an already existing modified file for the same car) in order to enhance the technical skills and develop
new experiences in this e-tuning activity.
Please also note that, by pressing ESC on the keyboard, you have the possibility to switch from RAM 1 to
RAM 2, to screen the parameters stored in the two RAM memories.
The differences between the two RAM memories can be both numerically and graphically reported. As
example, here below we have increased the boost pressure on a BMW 535d: 0,2 bar, that is 200 millibar. The
yellow area indicates the tuned parameters and the numeric difference between RAM 1 and RAM 2.
The same increase can be examined in the 3-D chart as well (the blue area shows the original values).

If you wish to modify a specific map in a linear, semi-automatic way, you have another interesting, profitable
function working for you: the FLOOR SUM.
This function of RACE allows the tuner to increase or decrease the values of a pre-selected area with a
linear interpolation of different numbers or percentages. This section can be imagined as a surface
represented by the floor : the tuner determines the increment (or decrement) in the four angles of this
floor . All the values located in this section will be interpolated: a precise and more logical tuning operation
is therefore achieved in few seconds.
This semi-automatic system permits precise and homogeneous modifications of the original datasets.

As shown before, the differences between the two RAM memories can be visualized on the numeric table
(also in percentage: see below), on the 2-D and the 3-D chart.
Another important function assured by RACE is the immediate identification of the maps containing
differences between the two RAM memories; a clear symbol shows that the content of RAM 1 and RAM 2 is
somehow different.
RACE offers also precise indications in case of the presence of additional maps (the so called analogous
maps ) under the same name and with the same unction (e.g. Torque Limiter).

SERIAL READING AND PROGRAMMING OPERATIONS VIA DIAGNOSTIC OR OBDII PORT!
Most trucks can be optimized with easy interventions via diagnostic or OBDII port (according to the
vehicle): specific information supplied allow to know exactly what cable to use (example: when to use the 30
pin or the 38 pin diagnostic connectors on Iveco vehicles ) and where to find the socket on the vehicle

RACE BASIC:
COMPLETE INDEPENDENCE IN YOUR TUNING DEVELOPMENTS
A CHALLENGE FOR YOUR TECHNICAL SKILLS.
If you aim to be free to search the map data sets or if you feel to be experienced in map searching and you
wish to have a more powerful software for your developments, RACE BASIC is the version for you. It
enables the research of map datasets with a wide range of options. As RACE is structured with two RAM
memories, the tuner can load one original file in RAM1 and a modified file of an analogous ECU system in
RAM2 to find automatically the difference in the parameter sets between two files loaded.
RACE BASIC enables the possibility to unscramble ECUs encoding algorithms: the tuner selects the ECU
(example BOSCH EDC16 or ME9, etc.) to have the complete content of the eprom file in clear .

RACE BASIC has been developed to allow map searches in the most professional way. It enables the user to
identify the engine parameters without technical support.
The tuner can find by himself the different map areas, revs/speed limiters, checksum areas, etc..
The eprom file is shown in decimal or hexadecimal numbers, 2 D and/or 3-D charts.
This version of RACE requires advanced skills as well as experience in map location and tuning.
RACE BASIC offers useful tools
such as markers for searching
significant values s, etc.. It allows
the visualization of the map in 8
or 16 bit format (8/16 bit
addresses and values) with the
possibility of inversion between
MSB and LSB, even or odd
alignment, printing of the preselected areas, etc..
The tuner can select the start
address, number of rows and
columns so as to have an area
identified as map visualized in the
correct way.
The content of the eprom file can be visualized also in a 3D chart: Image Surface is the helpful function
permitting the visualization and analysis of how a specific area has been created by the manufacturer.
After
setting
the
parameters of view (column
numbers, rows, starting &
final addresses), the tuner
can study the map area as
created
by
the
manufacturer. Here you can
check
the
different
visualization BEFORE and
AFTER having set the
parameters of view.
As already pointed out, with
RACE BASIC the tuner is not
supported
with
technical
information
about
the
addresses
of
the
map
location, filters required, etc.
This information is available
through the setting files.
RACE BASIC allows the tuner
easy intervention via OBDII
as well: the original file can be
read and programmed with
GENIUS system.
The tuner can choose whether
to start the operations with
the reading of the original
parameters or whether to
download an existing mod file.
In the last case, only the file
size would be verified before
the transmission of the file
into the ECU.

RACE BASIC
offers the

your archive of original
and modified files: the
tuner can store these
archives according to
MANUFACTURER
MODEL
ENGINE TYPE.
This option organizes
fast and logic searches,
avoiding
useless
and
annoying time wasting
consequent
to
an
eventual
untidy
organization of
your
records.
RACE BASIC, by using specific files called BASIC CONFIGURATION FILES , allows the restoration of
the checksum recalculation after the modification. They are software interfaces showing the complete
content of the ECU in graphic ( Full eprom chart ) and numeric mode (Full eprom ). BASIC
CONFIGURATION FILES enable the following operations:
Checksum recalculation after every modification realized on the full eprom file;
Serial reading and programming operations with controls on congruence of the file to download,
size, checksum parameters.
BASIC CONFIGURATION FILES also show in grey (not active) the list of maps available in the SETTING
FILES (RACE STANDARD and RACE PLUS) for the same vehicle.
This version of RACE is particularly indicated in association with our GENIUS serial programming console
and TRASDATA BDM tool (see next pages for a description).
IMPORTANT:
Please note that, without BASIC CONFIGURATION FILES, this version of the program allows the tuner
to upload/download it via OBDII as a serial shooter : no controls about the congruence of the file are
realized, just the size of the file is checked (always verified).

RACE STANDARD + RACE BASIC + NEW ADVANCED UTILITIES
RACE PLUS joins the highest reliability and ease in recalibration performance tuning assured by RACE
STANDARD and the greatest opportunities of independent technical developments of RACE BASIC.
Furthermore, the combination of the two versions of RACE previously examined enable some additional
technical features. In this case, we could say that 1 + 1 = 3!
When a setting file is
loaded into RACE PLUS,
the tuner is allowed to
open in one only screen the
list of maps available for
RACE STANDARD and
the complete eprom file
(both graphic and numeric
mode) granted by RACE
BASIC.
But in order to offer a
more powerful tool, an
advanced
further
technical attribute for
map location has been
added
The tuner has the possibility granted by RACE PLUS only to see and clearly recognize, in the full
eprom file, the location of the maps identified through the setting file, inclusive of the SPECIFIC
NAME of the map!
The tuner, after loading a setting file, is able to read the name of the maps as indicated in the picture here.

MASTER/SLAVE GENIUS APPLICATION FOR TUNERS DEALERS
Flash Point is the application specifically conceived to support our TUNERS NETWORKS
with a MASTER/SLAVE system for CAR and/or TRUCK. The console is supplied with a software
program enabling the client to send and receive files (via FTP connection). Built-in system safeguards
make it impossible to find, access and reuse the original/customized file on any other vehicle: each file
received can be programmed only once. The main operative procedure is the same as per

TRASDATA BDM tool, an upgrade of the previously released 555 PRO, is an independent BDM system
allowing reading and programming operations of the software stored in ECUs supplied with the following

By connecting the emulator to the ECU board - and the emulator body to a laptop - it is possible to
see a red trace moving across the maps according to RPM and LOAD.
The red trace gives the knowledge of the parameters to modify , a powerful technical way for high
level tailor made work. Moreover, by pressing ESC on the keyboard, you have the possibility to
switch between ORI and MOD files, so as to test and feel the difference while the engine is running.
Do you know a better tool for the development of mod files?
MET16 (MEMORY EMULATOR TRACER) 8/16 bit is provided with 2 RAM memories, 8 Mbit each. The kit
supplied includes all flat cables (DIL 28 & 32, PLCC 28/32 & 32/32, PLCC44 and PSOP44) for real time
working. The connection to the computer is done through PARALLEL port.
MET16 EPROM emulator also allows the tuning of those cars where an algorithm formula protects the original
software of the EPROM (on-line checksum algorithm correction): the checksum correction is done after
every modification in real time automatically and immediately.

PROFESSIONAL TRAINING SEMINARS
The training seminar usually held at our headquarter but eventually arranged also at our distributors or in
our branch companies - is specifically reserved to one tuning company per time: no class trainings, just
specific trainings expressly arranged to face tuners needs. It is a precious opportunity granted to allow our
customers to examine all the technical features and procedures of RACE tuning system.
We consider the technical training course as the best chance to be clear and open in front of all the doubts

using the tuning system, needing technical support for his first steps. To avoid unpleasant situations arising
from misunderstandings or wrong proceedings, we provide specific and accurate support by phone, fax and

This activity allows the Tuner to have new ECU setting files developed when not included in the databank
(extended setting files in some particular cases are granted, too), and helpful hints during the recalibration
of the car engine parameters: in difficult situations, a modified file is sent for better service (other
companies will ask you to pay for this additional service)
