Introduction

-Teacher to the students: this lesson has the aim of helping you pronounce accurately the sounds of the
ed suffix at the end of regular verbs in the simple past, and thus you can easily exchange information with
your classmates and other people about past activities or events, in both the classroom and the real world.
Also, important and nice activities will be developed in which you can use the simple past for
communication by reporting past activities to your friends. Thus, you will use the English language in a
funny way. The activities will be individually. So enjoy it!

Instructional Procedures

Icebreaker: Dont fail! Students are arranged in arrows. The teacher provides students
with a little piece of paper containing a word that turns out to be a regular verb in the
simple past. As students receive their words, they must immediately think about an activity
they carried out. Each student answer the question: what did you do yesterday? But, the
teacher choose three students at random and, if any student hesitates or fails in saying
his/her activities in the simple past of regular verbs, he/she has to fold his/her arms over
his/her head until one of the three students give the correct answer. (Focus on T-Ss)
Examples:
Yesterday, I played basketball.
Yesterday, I called my sister.

During
3 min

Choral drill. The class is still arranged in arrows of students. A slide with several patterns
of ed simple past is projected. The teacher explained every pattern of pronunciation. The
teacher asks students to listen carefully for the first times. Then, the teacher pronounces the
words and asks students to repeat the sound of each word, imitating what they listen to.
The teacher does this one more times and helps if necessary. (Focus on T-Ss)

1 min

Testing Knowledge. Individually. The teacher project 5 verbs ending in ed, 5 students are
chosen for pronouncing such verbs. If they fail, the teacher correct them explicitly. (Focus
on T-Ss)

Reinforcement through a video. At the end of the class, teacher asks students to pay
attention to a video being played. He asks students about the sounds that were the most

difficult to be pronounced. He says groups members that their reactions will be discussed
their next class. Some extra works and materials are indicated for the next class.

Assessment:
Formative

Teacher uses a performance record to write down those sounds that were more difficult to pronounce and
design strategies to help student learn those sounds.

Summative

Teacher assigns points to every activity (oral participation).
